What music do you have that the rest of Smogon apparEntly doesn't?

a lot of underground screamo from Europe/Japan/etc
That and the Post-Rock that is on Pax's list, and also Murder By Death, My Bloody Valentine, Les Savy Fav and The Casket Lottery who I don't see much in the NP thread.

Oh, and also a lot of random local/UK noise rock bands such as Bilge Pump and The Riotmen.

I have Shanghainese Rap (apparently a new fad in Shanghai). And I love 8-bit music :]

Oh right, and trance. Trancefloor is pretty popular, just not on Smogon. I have a bunch of trance podcasts too. Most of them are awesome.

Let's see...(in no particular order)
~Kidneythieves
~Mankind is Obsolete
~Betty X
~Snake River Conspiracy
All are female-fronted industral acts, the third one is more industrial metal.

~Garbage
I'm really quite surprised how *nobody* I know has even heard of them, even a friend of mine who has heard of a lot more rock bands than I have. As you can see I quite enjoy female vocals <3. They're quite an experimental band -they've tried different things like hip-hop and electronic influences with varying success.

~Stone Sour
Even though Corey Taylor sings for them, they are so different to Slipknot it's unbelievable. It's an altogether much cleaner sound that you can't just dismiss as stupid nu-metal like Slipknot is often labeled as.

~Suicidal Tendencies
Fucking crazy weird shit. They're kind of punk, kind of metal, kind of a lot of things. They're also quite funny though (lol 'You're Mommy's Dead').

~American Head Charge
Decent vocals -they scream but they pull it off well. Good stuff to listen to when you're pissed off.

~Enigma
What. This is like the only music I have that I can honestly say has no rock influences whatsoever. Ambient new-age whatever-you-want-to-call-it, like Enya I guess, good to relax to. I remember their music freaking me out when I was little.

I seem to be a rarity because I like The Fray, Three Doors Down and the Sheer.
Oh, i totally forgot 3 doors down on my post. I think they are amazing, lol, especially kryptonite, which was the song which got my attention and I still listen to it sometimes, it's that good.
I still listen to Bon Jovi too. Rarely, but I do!

Sometimes I tend to get on Limewire and get a couple of songs I've heard from the radio, and those tend to be from unappreciated artists here, like, uh, The Killers and "Mika" which I have no idea about who he is but i really like one of his songs lol fuck.

the Aquabats are the only band i can think of that most people haven't heard of. i mean come on, who can deny mormon ska?

down the playlist and here's some.. i tried to refrain on more obscure stuff:

Adam Green
Architecture in Helsinki
Chad VanGaalen
Deerhoof
Dinosaur Jr
Dismemberment Plan (nobody talks about them still)
Elliott Smith
Guster
Menomena
Minotaur Shock
New Pornographers
Of Montreal
The Olivia Tremor Control
Sloan
Ted Leo & The Pharmacists
The Unicorns
Violent Femmes
The Wrens

The Killers kind of suck doomsday and mika is very annoying to me.. mainly I guess because Of Montreal does that niche sooooo much better.

All I've heard from mika was a song named "grace kelly". its lyrics aren't either inventive or creative, but lol, his voice kinda amazes me. I guess I could try Of Montreal since you've mentioned they do whatever he does better.

The Foo Fighters, Flogging Molly, and the Beach Boys sometimes. I haven't seen anybody but a couple people who also listen to those yet.

Instead of bloating my post with quotes, I'll say who I love from recent lists:

0mastar - Murder By Death are incredible, I've been raving about them for months, did a review of their first album also. I also adore the Casket Lottery, they just don't come up too often in my iTunes shuffle.

Carl - I knew I'd know a lot from your list, so: Dismemberment Plan I love, especially, thanks to you and Dweedle. Elliott Smith is incredible (as is Nick Drake and Jeff Buckley, if you like any of those guys get the others ASAP). Menomena you just told me about, they're great. The Wrens also kick ass, and I just happen to be listening to 13 Months in 6 Minutes at the moment.

So apparently the cool thing to do is go through your list and pick names, so I'll attempt to do it with some brevity. I will do my best to pick names I have NEVER seen in any NP format:

The Absentee
Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill soundtracks 1-3, fucking incredible music/noise)
Aloha
Antony & the Johnsons
Arab Strap
Atmosphere
Beulah
Botch
Brian Eno
The Brian Jonestown Massacre
Cave In
Centaur
Christie Front Drive
The Dears
Doves
Failure
Fireside (greatest Scandinavian indie rock band of all time)
The Gloria Record
Hatebreed
Hopesfall (even though they sold out like WOW)
Hot Water Music
Insane Clown Posse (lol I KNOW I'm alone on this one)
It Dies Today
Jets to Brazil
Joseph Arthur
Kashmir
The Legends
The Life and Times
Manitoba
Mineral
Mouth of the Architect
Nada Surf
Nick Drake
No Knife
Onelinedrawing
Pinback
Poison the Well
Q and not U
Red House Painters
Sarah Fimm (like McLachlan, only more electrical and probably better)
Sebadoh
Shiner
Silver Jews
Slowdive
The Soundtrack of Our Lives
Spiritualized
Sun Kil Moon
Sunny Day Real Estate
Swollen Members
Time in Malta
Unwed Sailor
The Vandals
The Walkmen

Pretty comprehensive.

I seem to be a rarity because I like The Fray, Three Doors Down and the Sheer.
I'm a fan of both The Fray and Three Doors Down as well.

I don't often see U2 mentioned, but that could be because of my limited forum-browsing.

Occasionally I listen to James Blunt and Maroon 5, so yeah, I like softer rock I guess.

And some of my favorite songs to listen to are movie theme songs (not lyrical, but instrumental) and songs I've played in band.

Enigma is so awesome words can't describe the project. There's more New Age like Enigma or similar. If you're interested I can post some.

Botch
Cave In

Slowdive
Sunny Day Real Estate
I like all of those... I'm surprised I see My Bloody Valentine mentioned all over this thread and Slowdive nowhere. I do like Loveless (a lot) but their back catalogue is something I just can't get into, and I'm digging more Slowdive now.

I'm also surprised Converge get no love around here, as I know a few members are into hardcore.

Nitrous, Velvet Underground are awesome
Listening to Devendra Banhart right now and I've never seen him mentioned.

I don't know, I've never gotten really into Slowdive much. My Bloody Valentine, especially on Loveless, just fucking PERFECTED that balance between noise and absolutely ethereal vocals.

Pearl Jam
Nirvana
Beatles
The Who
Xiu Xiu
Bjork
Yes
Guns n Roses (they're fun)
Rush
Dream Theater (fun to listen to; great instrumental musicians but TERRIBLE song writers)
Aerosmith
The Doors
Oasis
Broken Social Scene (I dont think I mention them very much)
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Chick Corea
Mozart
Chopin
Beethoven
Vivaldi
Bob Dylan
Neil Young
Metric
Enrico Morricone
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
BB King
Ray Charles
Dave Weckl Band

etc.

Im not gonna say Interpol 'cause I do believe I've mentioned them on several occasions.

All I've heard from mika was a song named "grace kelly". its lyrics aren't either inventive or creative, but lol, his voice kinda amazes me. I guess I could try Of Montreal since you've mentioned they do whatever he does better.
I could be brown I could be blue I could be VIOLET SKYYYY

I think he's a castrato seriously

anyfuck EVERYONE should listen to Gogol Bordello - Punk Rock Paranada. it's a song by a russian punk band about mexicans and frigid prostitutes. it's the best thing in the world.

also mogwai, eels, lily allen (just the one song mind), placebo, dresden dolls (y), pharcyde, damian marley, pink, skunk anansie, swollen members, queen adreena, king adora, sage francis, jack off jill, scarling and stuff. yes.

I think Brian Eno composed some of the sountrack to 28 Days Later. Good music.
