Wait, you guys are still going? Man, usually a 2v2 singles is over by now! Perhaps the reason for this battle's length is that Josh doesn't have the strength to push through Magic Star's defences, so has to stall him out by creating Substitutes to withstand the Fennekin's Fire Blasts, while Magic Star keeps falling for the Togepi's tricks. Not only does his Hypnosis not work, but Josh calls for an Encore of that useless move. Magic Star feels obliged to continue his futile Hypnosis attempts while Josh maxes and relaxes. How many more times can she Chill out though? Will it be enough to allow the toxins inside Magic Star to do their dirty work?

Finally, the Fennekin comes back to his senses and engulfs the Substitute with a scorching Flamethrower attack. However, the Substitute manages to withstand the attack and protect Josh while she Chills again. Now, however, she has regained all the energy she can. The Togepi tries to make Magic Star feel sleepy by Yawning, but this time Magic Star is prepared. He reflects the manoeuvre with a Magic Coat and the yawning hits Josh's Substitute. Since Substitutes cannot get drowsy, the yawning has no effect after all.
Both Pokemon are now in danger of dropping. Magic Star's time draws near as the toxins continue running through his body, but Josh's energy reserves are now limited too. Who will come out on top?

However, while Josh had enough energy to perform a Super Psyshock and land a critical hit with the combo, Magic Star doesn't quite have enough for what he plans to do. His Flamethrower to remove the Substitute followed by a Fire Blast to leave a nasty burn on the Togepi leave the Fennekin with no energy, and he promptly faints exhausted. It seems starwarsfan has emerged triumphant!
