Dropping out this time around. (was going to continue but i'm going to end up replacing thundy-t pretty soon)

Hey there guys, want to put in some data i've been collecting and so forth on Victini, namely special victini. I had been running this for a week or two now, and I wanted to give my thoughts on it as well as some stats/calcs. I can provide battle logs on a later date as I somehow lost ones I had stored, but this will be mostly about stats and calculations rather than experience.

TL;DR-I can't really explain this whole post in a TL;DR section because it involves numerous stats. Sorry but the best I can give is this.

WARNING THIS IMAGE WILL TAKE UP YOUR WHOLE SCREEN

Victini- Special Set

Victini @ Expert Belt
Ability: Victory Star
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
- Blue Flare
- Thunder
- Grass Knot/Energy Ball
- Psychic

Victini @ Choice Specs
Ability: Victory Star
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
- Blue Flare
- Thunder
- Grass Knot/Energy Ball
- Psychic

Victini @ Life Orb
Ability: Victory Star
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
- Blue Flare
- Thunder
- Grass Knot/Energy Ball
- Psychic

I would like to first point out the usage stats here and show that a timid nature special spread victini is shown to be very uncommon, and I disagree that it should be so low in my honest opinion. Then again people will use what they prefer.
Jolly:0/252/0/0/4/252 48.842% | Adamant:0/252/0/0/4/252 8.847% | Jolly:4/252/0/0/0/252 6.030% | Adamant:4/252/0/0/0/252 5.258% | Hasty:0/252/0/4/0/252 4.357% | Timid:0/0/0/252/4/252 4.212% | Other 22.454%

The reason I have a set with life orb, and expert belt is simple. I prefer to use expert belt on teams that have no spin/defog, and life orb on teams that do. Choice specs is a set for pure power, but as i'm sure everyone knows locks you in which can be troublesome. It really all comes down to preference.

Now I have been testing this Moveset with those three items. For the damage calcs they will be listed in this order each time:

252 SpA Expert Belt Victini Blue Flare

252 SpA Life Orb Victini Blue Flare

252 SpA Choice Specs Victini Blue Flare

Damage Calculations

For this post I want to focus mainly on the amount of damage Victini can cause with a list of Calculations, and with some a comparison of move choices he has in certain situations.

Florges is one of the premier walls in UU. For the Calculations I will be running what still seems to be the more popular 252 HP/252 Def+/4 spA. spread.

252 SpA Victini Blue Flare vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Florges: 121-144 (33.6 - 40%) -- 31.7% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Life Orb Victini Blue Flare vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Florges: 157-187 (43.6 - 51.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Choice Specs Victini Blue Flare vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Florges: 183-216 (50.8 - 60%) -- 85.9% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

The first thing you will notice is the big difference between even just the expert belt and the life orb since Victini has no Super Effective attacks for Expert Belt to activate on. Life Orb gives a guarenteed 3hko rather than the small chance of a 3hko that expert belt does, but Choice Specs out damages them all as it always will. Now, even with Victini's huge base power stab in Blue flare the common wish/tect set can stall out the PP of Blue flare easily with Leftovers recovery. Unless victini hits Florges on it's switch in it doesn't have a chance to KO it.

Next I want to give the calculations on another wall seen quite often, Slowbro.

252 SpA Expert Belt Victini Thunder vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Slowbro: 288-341 (73 - 86.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Life Orb Victini Thunder vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Slowbro: 312-369 (79.1 - 93.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Choice Specs Victini Thunder vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Slowbro: 362-426 (91.8 - 108.1%) -- 50% chance to OHKO

Even with specs Victini is only a 2hko on Slowbro, but no worries Scald cannot ohko Victini if slowbro was brought in safely as seen here.

4 SpA Slowbro Scald vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Victini: 174-206 (51 - 60.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Even if it's some bulky special attacker :P

252+ SpA Slowbro Scald vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Victini: 240-284 (70.3 - 83.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

In this paticular set of damage calcs I would like to show one of my main reasons for actually using Special Victini and that is to destroy Mega-Aggron

First the Special Set...

252 SpA Expert Belt Victini Blue Flare vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Filter Mega Aggron: 380-450 (110.4 - 130.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Life Orb Victini Blue Flare vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Filter Mega Aggron: 411-487 (119.4 - 141.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Victini Blue Flare vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Filter Mega Aggron: 477-562 (138.6 - 163.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

...and now Physical

Choice Band: 252 Atk Choice Band Victini V-create vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Filter Mega Aggron: 262-310 (76.1 - 90.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Life Orb: 252 Atk Life Orb Victini V-create vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Filter Mega Aggron: 230-271 (66.8 - 78.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Expert Belt: 252 Atk Expert Belt Victini V-create vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Filter Mega Aggron: 212-250 (61.6 - 72.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

With the Special set Victini can actually switch into a Mega-Aggron EQ and retaliate with an OHKO the next turn, where Physical Victini can't. This isn't to say Physical Victini is bad, because Physical Victini can handle Florges where as the Special set can't. Also to prove EQ does not KO

252+ Atk Mega Aggron Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Victini: 254-300 (74.4 - 87.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

The next calcs will be for AV(assault vest) Metagross, and no I am not the only one to use him Q.Q. Stop making fun of me :(

252 SpA Expert Belt Victini Blue Flare vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Metagross: 310-367 (85.1 - 100.8%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO
252 SpA Life Orb Victini Blue Flare vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Metagross: 335-398 (92 - 109.3%) -- 50% chance to OHKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Victini Blue Flare vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Metagross: 386-456 (106 - 125.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

The only set here safe to switch in and retaliate OHKO 100% of the time is Choice Specs. Life orb comes in close but is on a 50% chance for a OHKO. Again Expert Belt coming in last.

And here is the start of my bulky waters + ground calcs with the first two being a comparison of the usage of energy ball vs. grass knot. I will being doing calcs on both 252 HP/252+ spD. Swampert and 252 hp/ 4 spD. swampert

Offensive Swampert

Grass Knot

252 SpA Expert Belt Victini Grass Knot (80 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Swampert: 379-451 (93.8 - 111.6%) -- 62.5% chance to OHK
252 SpA Life Orb Victini Grass Knot (80 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Swampert: 411-489 (101.7 - 121%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Victini Grass Knot (80 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Swampert: 476-560 (117.8 - 138.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Energy Ball
252 SpA Expert Belt Victini Energy Ball vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Swampert: 432-509 (106.9 - 125.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Life Orb Victini Energy Ball vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Swampert: 468-551 (115.8 - 136.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Victini Energy Ball vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Swampert: 536-632 (132.6 - 156.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

SpD. Swampert

Grass Knot

252 SpA Expert Belt Victini Grass Knot (80 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Swampert: 298-355 (73.7 - 87.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Life Orb Victini Grass Knot (80 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Swampert: 322-385 (79.7 - 95.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Choice Specs Victini Grass Knot (80 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Swampert: 368-436 (91 - 107.9%) -- 50% chance to OHKO

Energy Ball

252 SpA Expert Belt Victini Energy Ball vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Swampert: 302-360 (74.7 - 89.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Life Orb Victini Energy Ball vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Swampert: 328-390 (81.1 - 96.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Choice Specs Victini Energy Ball vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Swampert: 380-448 (94 - 110.8%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO

As you can see here Energy Ball is clearly the superior option in both senses, OHKO'ing always on the 4 spD. set, and 62.5% with specs on the 252 + spD. set.

For these Calcs I will be using both Grass Knot/Energy Ball as well as 252 HP/4 spD. and 252 HP/252 + spD. variants of Gastrodon

First 252 HP/252 + spD.

Grass Knot

252 SpA Expert Belt Victini Grass Knot (60 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Gastrodon: 216-259 (50.7 - 60.7%) -- 87.9% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Life Orb Victini Grass Knot (60 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Gastrodon: 234-281 (54.9 - 65.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Choice Specs Victini Grass Knot (60 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Gastrodon: 272-320 (63.8 - 75.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Energy Ball

252 SpA Expert Belt Victini Energy Ball vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Gastrodon: 326-384 (76.5 - 90.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Life Orb Victini Energy Ball vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Gastrodon: 354-416 (83 - 97.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Choice Specs Victini Energy Ball vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Gastrodon: 404-476 (94.8 - 111.7%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO

Secondly 252 hp/ 4 spD.

Grass Knot

252 SpA Expert Belt Victini Grass Knot (60 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Gastrodon: 307-365 (72 - 85.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Life Orb Victini Grass Knot (60 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Gastrodon: 333-395 (78.1 - 92.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Choice Specs Victini Grass Knot (60 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Gastrodon: 384-456 (90.1 - 107%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO

Energy Ball

252 SpA Expert Belt Victini Energy Ball vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Gastrodon: 461-547 (108.2 - 128.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Life Orb Victini Energy Ball vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Gastrodon: 499-593 (117.1 - 139.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Victini Energy Ball vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Gastrodon: 576-680 (135.2 - 159.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Again here Energy ball is seen to be the superior choice. Energy ball is shown to be a much better move when dealing with these bulky water/ground types, and in general. Even with Donphan running around in the tier which takes more damage from Grass Knot than Energy Ball, Blue Flare will actually KO Donphan that has only 4spD. investment. If it has a 252 + spD. investment then Grass Knot is the better choice.

Though the Hippo is not Water/Ground I would like to test out Grass Knot vs Energy Ball on him as well with his 252 hp/252 + spD. set

Grass Knot

252 SpA Expert Belt Victini Grass Knot (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Hippowdon: 230-274 (54.7 - 65.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Life Orb Victini Grass Knot (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Hippowdon: 250-296 (59.5 - 70.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Choice Specs Victini Grass Knot (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Hippowdon: 290-342 (69 - 81.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Energy Ball

252 SpA Expert Belt Victini Energy Ball vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Hippowdon: 175-206 (41.6 - 49%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Life Orb Victini Energy Ball vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Hippowdon: 190-224 (45.2 - 53.3%) -- 0.4% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Choice Specs Victini Energy Ball vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Hippowdon: 216-256 (51.4 - 60.9%) -- 94.1% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

In this case, Grass Knot is the superior option, as it can always 2hko Hippowdown with 252 HP/252 spD+ where as Energy ball does not a guarenteed OHKO on it.

For these calcs I will be using the usually bulky 252 hp/252 spA +/4 spD. set

252 SpA Expert Belt Victini Thunder vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Mega Blastoise: 214-252 (59.1 - 69.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Victini Thunder vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Mega Blastoise: 231-273 (63.8 - 75.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Victini Thunder vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Mega Blastoise: 266-314 (73.4 - 86.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

As you can see Victini can not ohko Mega-Blastoise with even Thunder. The problem is that Mega-Blastoise has a 81.3% chance to OHKO Victini.

252+ SpA Mega Launcher Mega Blastoise Water Pulse vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Victini: 332-392 (97.3 - 114.9%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO

Victini can really only stand against Mega-Blastoise if Mega-Blastoise has already taken damage, or Victini catches it with a Thunder which could possibly happen if they don't know your set yet.

For these calcs I will be using 252 HP/252 + spD. Jellicent

252 SpA Expert Belt Victini Thunder vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Jellicent: 168-199 (41.5 - 49.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Life Orb Victini Thunder vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Jellicent: 182-216 (45 - 53.4%) -- 1.2% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Choice Specs Victini Thunder vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Jellicent: 210-248 (51.9 - 61.3%) -- 95.7% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

With Choice Specs Victini has a very high chance to 2hko Jellicent and with LO it has a very low chance to 2hko.Without Life Orb or Choice Specs Victini fails to 2hko 252 spD. + Jellicent. Jellicent has a 18.8% to 2hko Victini with both it's stabs

4 SpA Jellicent Scald vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Victini: 152-180 (44.5 - 52.7%) -- 18.8% chance to 2HKO
4 SpA Jellicent Shadow Ball vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Victini: 152-180 (44.5 - 52.7%) -- 18.8% chance to 2HKO

For these calcs I will be testing the 252 hp/252 + spA./4 spD. Mega-Ampharos set as I believe it alone provides good enough evidence for what I want to show.

252hp/252 spA./4 spD. +

252 SpA Victini Psychic vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Mega Ampharos: 112-133 (29.1 - 34.6%) -- 7.6% chance to 3HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Victini Psychic vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Mega Ampharos: 146-173 (38 - 45%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Victini Psychic vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Mega Ampharos: 169-199 (44 - 51.8%) -- 11.7% chance to 2HKO

Even with a minimal spD. investment Mega-Ampharos gives Special Victini trouble, so you can imagine what a 252 spD. would look like, and for Mega-Ampharos's offense?

4+ SpA Mold Breaker Mega Ampharos Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Victini: 165-195 (48.3 - 57.1%) -- 91.8% chance to 2HKO

Mega-Ampharos is bad news for special Victini, especially since the rest talk set is so popular, and 252 spD becoming more popular to stop Thundurus-T. It's the power of the mullet.

Last but not least, the Fat man! For these Calcs i will be running a bulky offensive snorlax, and with a major difference for Victini I will be showing Focus Miss(Blast) in place of Thunder as well as the other move.

Focus Miss(Blast)

252 SpA Expert Belt Victini Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Snorlax: 242-286 (46.1 - 54.5%) -- 6.6% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Life Orb Victini Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Snorlax: 263-309 (50.1 - 58.9%) -- 75.4% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Choice Specs Victini Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Snorlax: 300-354 (57.2 - 67.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Psychic

252 SpA Victini Psychic vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Snorlax: 112-133 (21.3 - 25.3%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Life Orb Victini Psychic vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Snorlax: 146-173 (27.8 - 33%) -- 85% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Choice Specs Victini Psychic vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Snorlax: 169-199 (32.2 - 37.9%) -- 0.8% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

As you can see Special Victini has about a snowball's chance in hell against Snorlax with only 4 spD. investment unless Victini carries Focus Miss(Blast) in one of it's slots. To show Snorlax's EQ

252+ Atk Snorlax Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Victini: 214-252 (62.7 - 73.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Yeah, not to fun.

In my honest opinion, I think special Victini is great. Even with the one or two pokemon that can stop stop it I don't believe it warrants it to be thrown away. It KO's things that won't expect the special attacks which can be a great advantage. The only problem is stealth rock and spikes(though not so much since Klefki left). Expert Belt, in my view, is really only viable if your team doesn't have a spin user or defog user to keep the spikes and stealth rock off the field, since LO also gives you residue damage. Choice specs is great, but can screw you with it's lock in mechanic. Really it comes down to preference. I plan to do more testing. Thanks for reading.

Thundurus-Therian just got the axe, so I'm removing it from the OP. If your team still has it, replace it.

kokoloko quit shitting on my thread plz

You guys are really bad at the whole concept of providing your individual ladder rankings. You can tell me you're 102-0-4 all you want, the only way to win a research week is to provide that screenshot.

There were two ladder rankings submitted, and they were pretty similar. Because of his perfect record and higher glicko, eaglehawk has won this installment of research week! Because this week ran double the length of a normal week, it counts as winning two.

But seriously if you guys aren't going to provide a ladder ranking when I tell you to provide one, then I might abandon this project. It's rather useless to only have 2-5 competing for the prize.
