Well I'm definitely picking Mega Charizard Y here
Okay since the most obvious/popular choice was already taken, I'm going to have to go with something a bit more meme-friendly. Without further ado...
Diggersby @ Life Orb/Groundium Z
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
OR 4 HP / 252 Atk / 44 Def / 4 SpD / 204 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Return
- Quick Attack
What is up with GameFreak giving rabbits with mediocre offensive stats a phenomenal ability in
HUGE POWER?
HUGE POWER turns what would be an otherwise bad 'mon (looking at you Thick Fat Azumarill) into a 'mon that does
HUGE DAMAGE. With 252+ Atk and
HUGE POWER, Diggersby actually possesses a higher attack stat than any other Ground type in the BSS metagame, meaning that opponents who EV their Aegislash to take an EQ from Adamant Lando-T are in for a nasty surprise when they face Diggersby. Life Orb provides Diggersby with more late-game cleaning utility than Groundium; however, having a Ground type nuke isn't a bad option if you have a Z-Move slot open on your team. Plus, Diggersby is T H I C C enough to tank any hit from Aegislash (barring Atk invested Sacred Sword) and is immune to its Ghost STAB, meaning that a well-timed switch can get Diggersby in for free.
Offensive Calcs:
252+ Atk Huge Power Diggersby Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Aegislash-Shield: 158-188 (94.6 - 112.5%) -- 75% chance to OHKO [note the lack of LO]
252+ Atk Life Orb Huge Power Diggersby Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Aegislash-Shield: 205-244 (122.7 - 146.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Just for the sake of argument, let's assume your opponent is using Aegislash as their defensive wall...
252+ Atk Life Orb Huge Power Diggersby Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Aegislash-Shield: 156-187 (93.4 - 111.9%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO
GONE
Defensive Calcs:
Aegislash-Shield Shadow Ball vs. Diggersby: 0-0 (0 - 0%) -- aim for the horn next time [
mish mish]
252+ SpA Aegislash-Blade Flash Cannon vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Diggersby: 103-123 (64.3 - 76.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 Atk Aegislash-Blade Sacred Sword vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Diggersby: 120-142 (74.5 - 88.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
The alternate EV spread allows you to get a favorable roll vs max Atk Aegi's Sacred Sword while still outrunning max speed Timid/Jolly Aegislash (who the hell runs that?):
252+ Atk Aegislash-Blade Sacred Sword vs. 4 HP / 44 Def Diggersby: 146-174 (90.6 - 108%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO (Adamant/Brave)
252 Atk Aegislash-Blade Sacred Sword vs. 4 HP / 44 Def Diggersby: 134-158 (83.2 - 98.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (Jolly)
I would probably argue that the first EV spread is better for general team purposes, but the second spread works better as the dedicated Aegi killer, as it beats any set outside of physical LO or Fightinium-Z/Steelium-Z. Of course, what set it is doesn't really matter when you outspeed and OHKO anyway! :P
If your opponent is smart and switches out Aegislash, you can get a free SD. While not particularly relevant to the Aegislash discussion, it is neat to see what +2 Diggersby OHKOs...
+2 252+ Atk Life Orb Huge Power Diggersby Quick Attack vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mega Charizard Y: 142-168 (92.8 - 109.8%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO
+2 252+ Atk Life Orb Huge Power Diggersby Quick Attack vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Tapu Koko: 133-157 (91 - 107.5%) -- 50% chance to OHKO
+2 252+ Atk Life Orb Huge Power Diggersby Quick Attack vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Greninja: 160-188 (108.8 - 127.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252+ Atk Life Orb Huge Power Diggersby Return vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mega Venusaur: 185-218 (98.9 - 116.5%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO
+2 252+ Atk Life Orb Huge Power Diggersby Return vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Celesteela: 104-122 (50.9 - 59.8%) -- 86.7% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
