But you do not get more points for choosing a lower stage. ie: choosing charmander or Charmeleon will only earn you one point. The points gained for NFEs can't be used till the next round!


Note: Pikachu, Cubone, Clamperl, Trapinch, Vigoroth, Hippopotas and Snover will cost one point regardless of held item.
Phione, Scyther and Porygon2 are not considered NFE.

You cannot purchase NFEs after round 1.

from my understanding of the rules that wouldn't work. I thought the points gained by NFEs didn't count till the next round. Hell, it's bolded in the section you just quoted!
