[OVERVIEW]

* Mixed movepool with great attacking stats makes it a capable sweeper
* Its great speed allows it to outrun a great majority of (unscarfed) OUs offensive threats
* Can boost its Special Attack further with Nasty Plot to aid it in breaking past bulky teams
* Added utility with Thunder Wave and Taunt
* Two great abilities in Prankster (though no longer effective against dark types) and Defiant
* Electric/Flying typing makes it immune to EQ giving it an advantage against other electrics and can check locked Landrous-T, Mega Scizor and Tornadus-T
* Frail bulk and weakness to SR leaves it reliant on hazard removal support and makes it hard to switch in more than once
* Faces competition from new electric pokemons like Xuriktree and Tapu Koko
* Its strongest moves are Electric STABs which leave it reliant on Hidden Power (ice/flying) among other coverage to break past Electric resists
* Prankster T-wave is nerfed this gen with Dark types now being immune to the ability thus now being unable to shut down Greninja, +1 M-Gyarados and Mega Sharpedo. Psychic Terrain and Misty Terrain also stop it from working, the former due to priority nullification and the latter prevents status ailments for all grounded pokemon

[SET]
name: Defiant Genie (Mixed LO Attacker)
move 1: Thunderbolt
move 2: Knock Off
move 3: Superpower
move 4: Hidden Power Ice / Sludge Wave
item: Life Orb
ability: Defiant
nature: Naive
evs: 68 Atk / 188 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

* Thunderbolt is the main attacking option and its best STAB
* Knock Off punishes switch in hard and cripples walls that depend on Eviolite or Leftovers to function properly with Dark being a great neutral attacking type in general
* Superpower allows Thundrus to 2HKO Chansey and Ferrothorn while also netting a OHKO against Tyranitar
* Hidden Power Ice threatens to OHKO x4 weak to ice Dragon switch ins as well as opposing Thundrus
* Sludge Wave OHKOs Tapu Koko, Tapu Lele and Tapu Bulu and 2HKOs Clefable

Set Details
=======

*EVs ensure 2HKO on Chansey, OHKO with Knock off against Latios after minimum prior damage, OHKO with Thunderbolt against uninvested Manaphy and Tapu Fini
* Naive increases speed without decreasing attacking stats and is chosen instead of Hasty because it allows Thundurus to take physical priorities better for example Mega Pinsir's Quick Attack
* Life Orb grants more power to all of its attacks

Usage Tips
========

* Thundrus can act as a general attacking option, relying on its speed and coverage to continue staying and spreading damage across enemy team
* It can also be switched in after a KO or predicted immunity to force sweepers out and punish switch ins with Knock Off
* Should be used to break teams early game and pave the way for a late game sweeper
* Can lure pokemon like Tyranitar and Latios in and finish them off
* Should be played aggresively to take advantage of its mixed movepool

Team Options
========

* Water type pokemon such as Azumarill and Tapu Fini can switch into Ice attacks and get past bulky grounds as well
* Heatran can set up SR to gurantee the OHKO on Latios with Knock off for example and Thundurus can switch on ground type attacks that threaten it
* Tapu Lele can help with nullification of priority moves
* Defog or spin support from pokemon such as Latios and Starmie increases its longevity
* Volt Turn cores gives you an opputurnity to bring in Thundurus safely
* Late game sweepers such as scarfed Xuriktree, Pheromosa, specs Ash-Greninja and Porygon-Z benefit greatly from Thundurus and its ability to break teams early and mid-game
* Hazards such as SR ensure some important OHKO/2HKO

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

* Thunderbolt is the main attacking option and its best STAB
* Hidden Power Ice is necessary to hit opposing Thundrus and Lati@s switch ins
* Hidden Power Flying can also be used as a secondary STAB and can hit the above mentioned threats neutrally while also dealing with Bulky Grass types
* Focus Blast can be used against Super Effectively against certain pokemon like Ferrothorn and OHKO Dark types
* Sludge Wave OHKOs Tapu Koko, Tapu Lele and Tapu Bulu and 2HKOs Clefable
* Thunder wave is used to shut down offensive threats and also can be used to make defensive walls unreliable
* Taunt can be used to allow it to function as a lead against hazard setters and prevent walls from recovery

Set Details
========

* Timid makes best use of its speed along with 252 SpA for maximum attacking power and 4 Def allows it to have an odd HP
* Prankster allows it to gain priority on Thunder Wave
* Life Orb increases it's power and makes gurantees OHKOs on SE hits

Usage Tips
========

* Volt Turn cores gives you an opputurnity to bring in Thundurus safely
* Thunder Wave stops set up sweepers in their tracks

Team Options

Moves
========

*Nasty Plot is the crux of this set, boosting its SpA by +2 and allows it to out muscle even resists
* Thunderbolt is the main attacking option and its best STAB
* Hidden Power Ice grants it the famed Bolt Beam coverage
* Focus Blast can be used against Super Effectively against certain pokemon like Ferrothorn and OHKO Dark types as well as giving it a chance to 2HKO Chansey after SR or prior damage
* Sludge Wave OHKOs Tapu Koko, Tapu Lele and Tapu Bulu and 2HKOs Clefable
* Taunt can allow Thundrus to act as a Stall Killer, preventing enemies from setting hazards, passive damage and status moves as well as recovery
* You can also rely on bolt beam coverage and use Thunder wave to stop set up sweepers and paralize scarfers
* HP Flying can be used as a secondary STAB and allows it to deal with Mega Venusaur

Set Details
========

* Timid makes best use of its speed along with 252 SpA for maximum attacking power and 4 Def allows it to have an odd HP
* Leftovers can be used to recover health

Usage Tips
========

* To be used after hazards have been removed and its checks and counters have been eliminated
*Can also be used against stall and to punch holes or break cores down allowing other sweepers to finish the job
* It can also be brought in late game to boost and clean up the enemy team
* Nasty plot allows you to set up on pokemon that threaten you naturally without such as Chansey

Team Options

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

* Grass Knot can be used against Bulky grounds such as Quagsire, Gastrodon and Hippodon and can be a great surprise move but it usually comes at the cost of better coverage

*A physical set with defiant can take advantage of Bulk Up and Flyinium Z with the moveset Bulk Up/Fly/Superpower/Wild Charge

* Volt switch can be used to gain momentum but at the cost of losing a solid stab move in Thunderbolt or a better coverage move in the third moveslot

Checks and Counters
===================

**Ice Types**: Mamoswine and Weavile both have access to STAB Ice Shard which can either OHKO it or bring within range to death by LO recoil

**Bulky Grounds** Thundurus usually has a hard time muscling past them and they are becoming increasingly common to resist Electric sweepers in general, and these mons only have GK to truly fear from, for example Hippowdon, Gastrodon and Quagsire

**Bulky Grass** Aside from sets that use HP Flying, Bulky Grass such as AV Tangrowth and Mega Venusaur take little damage from its coverage moves and force you out

**Dragons** Especially those who are neutral or x2 weak to HP Ice (eg. Lati twins) can stomach what you dish at them and OHKO in return so it is better to soften them up first through hazards and team support

**Electric Types** Resist your main attacking move and take neutral damage from your coverage most of the time and take advantage of your secondary Flying typing to hit you back with their own Electric STABs and frail defenses for example Tapu Koko

**Alola Marowak** Special sets cannot harm it due to Lightning Rod which makes it immune to your strongest attack thunderbolt and HP Ice being ineffective and Ghost typing granting immunity to focus blast and resistant to Sludge Wave. Knock off however can severely cripple it for the rest of the match, removing Thick Club from its possession

**Fast Attackers and Choice Scarfers** New threats like Pheromosa and Tapu Koko and returning foes like Scarfed Genesect hinders your ability to deal damage while Greninja and Mega Gyarados (after +1) are immune to prankster Thunder Wave, however scarfers are in general are afraid of being crippled by it

**Priority* Although Thundrus resists Mach Punch and First Impression, its frail bulk and and LO sets make wearing it down and OHKOing it with prior damage very easy for example Ice shard from Weavile and Extreme Speed from Genesect

I'd mention Alolan Marowak as one of the checks to the Special sets, Thundi can't hit it at all unless you lure it with Knock Off, I'd mention how it removes Thick Club, making it less useful.
You could also explain a bit more why Sludge Wave should be used now, hits all Tapus and OHKOs/almost OHKOs and so on.

Maybe also mention a few hazard removers that pair well with it.

If you want, you could expand a bit more on Dark types, it now can't stop M-Gyarados, Greninja and Mega Sharpedo with Twave from sweeping

It CAN cripple Greninja, but it has to Protean into something other than a Dark-type. Unless, for some reason, Prankster checks its original typing first or something.

The point definitely still stands for Mega Gyarados and, when released, Mega Tyranitar.

*rubs hands menacingly*.

I've expanded the description for why Sludge Wave is preferable in this gen, and added Dark Types/Alola Marowak in the Counters and Checks list.

Yeah it's probably worth pointing out in the overview that it's harder to abuse priority T-wave this gen. Faster Dark-type like Greninja, +1 M-Gyarados and +1 Mega Sharpedo just don't care, Psychic Terrain shuts it down, Tapu Koko is a fast threat that you can't slow down , etc.

If were mentioning Psychic Terrain I would argue Misty Terrain as well as grounded mons remain immune to Thunder Wave as well. The good news is Tapu Fini wont dare switch into Thundurus.

Good point, poor thing got hit badly this gen, best to focus on its attacking prowess.

* Sludge Wave OHKOs Tapu Koko, Tapu Lele and Tapu Bulu and 2HKOs Clefable
Hiding behind a Sub allows you to avoid status and guarantee further hits

* Heatran can also act as a switch in to the Lati twins who can live Hidden Power Ice and threaten to OHKO back with Draco Meteor you have knock off, so remove this sentence, insted mention how tran can setup rocks to ensure some hko like knock off on latios for example, while thundy is immune to ground type attacks
* Tapu Koko can boost Thundrus Electric Stab and can run a mixed set with Brave Bird this doesnt make sense because thundy is a flying type aka it doesnt benefit from terrain as it isnt grounded.
* Ice types of your own can also deal with Dragons, Ground and Grass pokemon such as Weavile
* Tapu Lele can help with nullification of priority moves
*mention defog support or spin support to increase its longevity
* volt turn mons are really good to bring in safely thundy
* mention some late game sweepersas well, so thundy breaks early -mid game for its teammates.
