Skuntank [QC 0/3]

Overview
########

  • One of the few non-Flying Type pokemon to get defog.
  • Possesses a unique typing that is only weak to one type, ground.
  • Usable 103/67/61 Defenses.
  • Useful abilities in both Aftermath and Stench.
  • Access to STAB priority in Sucker Punch.
  • Has a moderately decent movepool with access to things such as Fire Blast and Shadow Ball
  • Can deal with all common Fairy-Types including Florges.
  • Psuedo-trapping with Sucker Punch and Pursuit

Specially Defensive
########
name: Specially Defensive
move 1: Defog
move 2: Pursuit
move 3: Sucker Punch
move 4: Poison Jab
ability: Aftermath
item: Black Sludge
evs: 124 HP / 252 SpD / 132 Spe
nature: Careful

Moves
========

  • Defog is used to remove hazards from both sides of the field. Best used before you put any hazards on the opponents side of the field.
  • Pursuit is used for hitting things that are trying to switch, as well as provide a form of Psuedo-Trapping in conjunction with Sucker Punch.
  • Sucker Punch is used for Priority.
  • Poison Jab is used for dual STAB.

Set Details
========

  • 252 SpD and a Careful nature let it get the most bulk possible.
  • The speed EVs are used to outspeed base 100s with no investment.
  • Black Sludge is used for passive recovery since Skuntank lacks any other recovery method.
  • Aftermath is used for switching into physical attackers that can KO Skuntank to get some extra damage on.

Usage Tips
========

This set should be used as an alternative to other Defogers since it doesn't stack weaknesses with a lot of common types, such as grass, bug, and other flying types. Skuntank can also be used to switch into Toxic Spikes to absorb them. With Pursuit and Sucker Punch you can trap common Ghost and Psychic-Types because they fear the super effective hits.

Team Options
========

  • Pokemon who can deal with ground types are work great with Skuntank. Any defensive Grass/Poison-Type works well.
  • Krookodile to deal with Drapion.
  • Florges for wish support and heal bell.

Offensive
########
name: Offensive
move 1: Sucker Punch
move 2: Pursuit
move 3: Defog / Fire Blast
move 4: Poison Jab
ability: Aftermath / Stench
item: Black Sludge / Life Orb
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpAtk / 252 Spe
nature: Naive

Moves
========

  • Sucker Punch and Pursuit are used for STAB and for Psuedo Trapping.
  • Poison Jab is used an additional STAB that hits Grass and Fairy-Types hard.
  • Fire blast is used for coverage against Steel, Grass, and Bug-Types.

Set Details
========

  • The EVs are used to maximize offensive potential.
  • Aftermath is used for extra damage against physical attackers who KO Skuntank and Stench is used for the extra chance to flinch on moves that already don't have a chance to flinch.
  • A Naive nature is used as opposed to Timid one to get the most damage possible from min-investment in Skuntank's special attack.
  • Black Sludge is used for passive recovery, life orb is used for addition damage at the expense of extra residual damage and recovery.

Usage Tips
========

Offensive Skuntank is basically out-shined in every way by Drapion, however it has its uses. Sucker Punch is a pretty reliable form of priority that Skuntank also gets STAB on. This set can be used to hit common Fairy-Types with Poison Jab.

Team Options
========

  • Any Physically defensive pokemon that can take an Earthquake works really well with Skuntank.
  • Gligar and Porygon2 for reliable bulk against physical attackers.
  • Assault Vest Tangrowth works very well with Skuntank.
  • Any wish passer that can help keep Skuntank healthy.

Other Options
########

  • Special Attacker
  • Offensive Defog
  • Shadow Ball
  • Haze
  • Taunt
  • Roar

Checks & Counters
########

  • Drapion because of its typing and access to Earthquake.
  • Nidoqueen can switch in on anything and OHKO with Earth Power.
  • Krookodile
  • Flygon
  • Machamp

Defog for sure needs to mentioned on the offensive set. I honestly haven't used Skuntank or even really seen one, but Defog is one of the best things about it in RU and it's probably the same for UU, too. (Especially when Pokemon such as Honchkrow and Mega Absol giving it competition for an offensive Dark-type.)

Good point. I added it to the offensive set before fire blast.
