Salazzle's great Speed, Special Attack, and Corrosion ability turn it into a great wallbreaker, as it has a very strong STAB combination and is able to cripple most of its checks with Toxic. Knock Off removes items from Salazzle's switch-ins, removing Leftovers from Pokemon in order to wear them down alongside Toxic, or other key items such as Heavy-Duty Boots from Mantine and Eviolite from Porygon2. Nasty Plot is an alternative that can make Salazzle more threatening in the late-game and allow it to wallbreak more efficiently. Taunt is an option to prevent defensive Pokemon from recovering while also preventing Pokemon from setting entry hazards or setting up; however, most of Salazzle's defensive switch-ins are able to KO it regardless, so Taunt is rarely worth the risk. Heavy-Duty Boots is used so Salazzle can switch in safely throughout the match and not get chipped by entry hazards; it also helps Salazzle against offensive teams with its threatening great Speed and immunity to Sticky Web and Spikes.
Salazzle can't do much against bulky Rock- and Water-types such as Rhyperior, Gigalith, Mantine, Jellicent, and Vaporeon other than hit them with Toxic and Knock Off, so Pokemon that can deal with them such as Virizion, Bewear, and Dhelmise are great options for Salazzle. It also appreciates the likes of Xatu, Mantine, and Sigilyph, which can switch into Ground-type attacks. The first two can also keep entry hazards off the field in case Salazzle's item is removed. Salazzle is a great partner for Pokemon that appreciate weakened Water- and Rock-types, such as Barraskewda, Inteleon, Braviary, and Exploud. Due to Salazzle's terrible bulk, it has a hard time switching into non-resisted attacks, making pivots that can bring it in safely with U-turn or Volt Switch such as Heliolisk, Inteleon, and Passimian good teammates. Salazzle appreciates entry hazard support helping it to pressure its checks and enabling it to benefit from Knock Off removing Heavy-Duty Boots, with Rhyperior, Gigalith, and Golisopod being good options. Steel-types such as Klefki, Steelix, and Bronzong can also provide entry hazards while helping against Dragalge, which is one of the strongest and best offensive checks to Salazzle. Salazzle can also benefit from Sticky Web support from the likes of Ribombee and Araquanid, specifically if using Nasty Plot, so that it can't get revenge killed by Inteleon, Barraskewda, and most Choice Scarf users.
