Registeel [GP 2/2]

<p>Registeel hasn't changed much, if at all, since his release in ADV. He is one of the sturdiest Pokemon in UU, and has the ability to check numerous threats. Unfortunately for Registeel, he faces competition from other Steel-type Pokemon in UU, such as Bronzong, who sports a better defensive typing and is immune to the omnipresent Spikes; Empoleon, who boasts better offensive stats and moves such as Scald and Roar; and Escavalier, who hits extremely hard thanks to his great Attack stat. However, this doesn't mean Registeel isn't a good support Pokemon. He has a decent support movepool, which includes moves such as Thunder Wave and Stealth Rock, and has the highest defensive stats of any Steel-type in UU. Although Registeel struggles to deal much damage to foes thanks to his poor offensive stats, he's an excellent choice for teams in need of a counter to fast and powerful threats such as Shaymin, Raikou, and Stoutland.</p>

move 2: Thunder Wave / Toxic
move 3: Seismic Toss
move 4: Earthquake / Shadow Claw
item: Leftovers
nature: Careful
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

<p>This is the best set Registeel can run in UU. Thanks to his great special bulk, he can check many threats in the metagame, such as Shaymin, Kingdra, and Raikou. Registeel gets plenty of opportunities to switch in, and will therefore almost always be able to set up Stealth Rock reliably; this is essential for deterring Pokemon who threaten Registeel, such as Darmanitan, from switching in. Thunder Wave is Registeel main selling point, as it cripples most sweepers for the remainder of the match; it is also one of the main reasons to use Registeel over similar Pokemon, such as Bronzong. However, Toxic can be used over Thunder Wave to cripple bulky opponents, such as Slowbro and Rhyperior, who otherwise laugh at Registeel. As Registeel's offensive stats are quite low, Seismic Toss is the best move for him to chip away at his opponents. Earthquake is the preferred option in the last slot as it hits Pokemon such as Darmanitan and Chandelure for super effective damage on the switch. However, Shadow Claw hits Mismagius, Rotom, and Xatu.</p>

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

<p>The EV spread maximizes Registeel's special bulk as his typing lends itself to walling special attackers, and because most physical attackers in UU carry a Fighting or Ground move that hits Registeel for super effective damage. There's also the option of moving some EVs into Attack to hit a bit harder. Registeel can run Ice Punch in the last slot to nail common counters, such as Flygon, on the switch. Rest is the only recovery move Registeel can use, but is not recommended unless a teammate can provide cleric support, as it forces Registeel to stay asleep for two turns, which reset every time he switches out.</p>

<p>As Registeel lacks reliable recovery, partners that can provide Wish support, such as Umbreon and Togekiss, are recommended. Registeel works well in tandem with Pokemon that can take Fighting-, Ground- and Fire-type attacks, such as Gligar, Zapdos, and Slowbro, while Registeel can easily sponge any super effective attack directed at them. Ghost-types such as Sableye can not only take Fighting-type attacks for Registeel, but also stop Rapid Spin users from spinning away Stealth Rock.</p>

[Other Options]

<p>Registeel can run a mono-attacking set consisting of Curse, Iron Head, Rest, and Sleep Talk. This can be devastating for teams that lack a reliable way to take Registeel out, but the prevalence of Pokemon such as Chandelure, Heracross, and Machamp reduce the effectiveness of the set. Registeel has a wide offensive movepool with moves such as Thunderbolt, Hammer Arm, and Ice Punch, but he unfortunately lacks the attacking stats to use them effectively. Finally, Registeel has some other support moves, such as Counter, Gravity, and Rain Dance, which can be helpful in certain situations.</p>

[Checks and Counters]

<p>Even though Registeel has fantastic defensive stats and the ability to check many threats, he has trouble with bulky Pokemon thanks to his lackluster offenses. Bulky Pokemon who can hit Registeel with a super effective STAB move are usually your best bet at taking him out. Chandelure, Rhyperior, and Machamp can blast Registeel away with their STABs and can set up on him depending on what coverage move he decides to run. However, most of these Pokemon are susceptible to status, especially Toxic. For this reason, status absorbers, such as Nidoking, who is immune to Toxic and Thunder Wave, and can absorb Toxic Spikes, as well as Guts users such as Heracross, are usually good Registeel switch-ins. Finally, Xatu deserves a special mention, as its Magic Bounce ability can bounce back any support move used by Registeel while it heals itself with Roost.</p>

[Unreleased]

<p>Light Metal should never be used on Registeel. While the reduced damage from Low Kick and other weight-based attacks might seem useful, there is only a marginal difference in damage output. This, and the fact that Light Metal causes Registeel to lose some of his crucial moves, such as Seismic Toss and Stealth Rock, makes it an essentially useless ability. Furthermore, Clear Body can even be useful to make Registeel a better check against Shaymin, as it prevents the potentially devastating Special Defense drops that Seed Flare can cause.</p>

You should probably emphasize that the main reason to use this over any other special wall is its immunity to Toxic (Spikes), which lets it counter Raikou and stuff even with TS down.

... at least that's the only reason I'd use it... and even then I'd probably rather use something else and be weak to Raikou...

add comments : "also make sure Stealth Rock isn't spun" to block rapid spinners

checks and counters " unless they are ground type or immune to thunder wave" i dont think you need that bit as well as the bit about heracross at the end. it just sounds clunky the way its written, you also spelt immune wrong

and the fact it lacks realiable recovery should be in the additional/set comments

There's not a whole lot to be said about Registeel. I think the main purpose of this update will simply to be to updates mentions of relevant threats/counters.

On that note, I'd say this looks good. I'd say Counter deserves a mention in OO, and possibly Explosion (with the note that Explosion pretty much sucks).

QC APPROVED (1/3)

add comments : "also make sure Stealth Rock isn't spun" to block rapid spinners

No. You don't need a Ghost just for that-- SR is only 1 setup turn anyway, and Registeel's got what it takes to set it up multiple times.

checks and counters " unless they are ground type or immune to thunder wave" i dont think you need that bit as well as the bit about heracross at the end. it just sounds clunky the way its written, you also spelt immune wrong

This is a QC skeleton... no one cares if stuff is awkward or misspelled at this stage. Mentioning that Guts is especially effective when dealing with things like Registeel is stuff that's worth mentioning, as is being wary of status.

and the fact it lacks realiable recovery should be in the additional/set comments

That is just obvious by looking at the set... "no reliable recovery" is something that can be discussed in the Overview and/or checks and counters, not needed in the set comments...
I considered deleting your post because it's just bad but... meh, that wouldn't educate anyone.

Now please--

I haven't mentioned Explosion in OO because with Registeel horrid attack stat and Explosion nerf this gen you're not doing much, at least on other pokemon with decent attacking power you can leave a dent on something. I can add it if its needed though.

I forgot to add counter, I will mention it definitely.

To be honest, I wasn't even going to check this at first when I realised how much I had to change. Please look at these in the future before you write another analysis:

Spelling and Grammar Standards
C&C Analysis Formatting Guide

If you can't be bothered, here are the major mistakes you made:

  • It's in the metagame not on the metagame.
  • Pokemon, not pokemon.
  • It for Pokemon that don't have a gender, he for only masculine ones, she for only feminine ones, interchangeable for both.
  • Put a space between all headings and the paragraph apart from [SET].
  • Don't forget <p> and </p> at the beginning and end's of paragraphs.
  • HP not Hp.
Whoever checks this next, you'll probably want to look very carefully or request a third check, as I'm sure their are some things I've missed.

I'm sorry about some grammar errors (English is not an official lenguage on my country and I don't speak it perfectly)

Oh, if I'm not wrong, ''It'' is never used for referring a pokemon. When a pokemon is genderless/can be both genders, you may use either He or She (it doesn't matter) as long as you use only of them through the analysis. So I wasn't wrong at that. Look at this: http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102407
You may use the pronoun "who" instead of "which" or "that" and use "he" or "she" to refer to Pokemon as people if you so desire. It must be consistent for the entire article or analysis if this is done, however.
I know about the <p> tags. In fact I just only forgotten 1.

Btw, only Snorlax uses Curse in UU (and only 5% of the Snorlax you'll see use Curse, assuming we're talking about people that knows how to play), and there aren't Lightningrod, Motor Drive nor Volt Absorb users on the tier (I mean, no pokemon that are over 3'41% usage), so that's why I haven't mentioned it on the analysis. I shouldn't have deleted the approved skeleton I guess.

Registeel can't switch in (and defeat) physical Kingdra versions as they always run Substitute or Rest, which means they can set up and defeat Registeel almost all the time.

P.S: I implemented all the changes except the ''It/He'' thing, as I will just wait for the next GP Check to see if that's really wrong or if I did it correctly (I just did what the Article said -.-) Oh and please don't be too harsh with me, I'm new to C&C, I only have a C1 level (Europe's level scale) of English, and the writeup wasn't that bad anyway.

Ghost-types, such as Sableye, can not only take Fighting-type attacks for Registeel but they also stop Rapid Spin users from spinning away Stealth Rock.</p>

[Other Options]

<p>Registeel can run a mono-attacker set consisting of Curse, Iron Head, Rest, and Sleep Talk. This can be devastating for teams without a reliable way to take Registeel out, but the prevalence of Pokemon such as Chandelure, Heracross, and Machamp reduce the effectiveness of the set. Registeel has a wide offensive movepool with moves such as Thunderbolt, Hammer Arm, and Ice Punch, but, unfortunately, he lacks the attacking stats to use them effectively.

Chandelure, Rhyperior, and Machamp can blast Registeel away with their STABs and can set up on him, depending on what coverage move he decides to run. However, most of these Pokemon are susceptible to status, especially Toxic. For this reason, status absorbers, such as Nidoking, (who is immune to Toxic and Thunder Wave, and can absorb Toxic Spikes) or Guts users, such as Heracross, are usually good Registeel switch-ins. Finally, Xatu deserves a special mention, as its Magic Bounce ability can bounce back any support move used by Registeel while healing itself with Roost</p>

[Overview]

<p>Registeel hasn't changed much, if at all, since his release in ADV. Registeel He is one of the sturdiest Pokemon in UU, and has the ability to check numerous threats.

[SET COMMENTS]

<p>This is the best set Registeel can run in UU. Thanks to his great special bulk, he can check a lot of threats, such as Shaymin, Kingdra, and Raikou, along with many more threats in the metagame many threats in the metagame, such as Shaymin, Kingdra, and Raikou. Registeel gets plenty of opportunities to switch in, which means he will and will therefore almost always be able to set up Stealth Rock reliably; which this is essential for deterring Pokemon who threaten Registeel, such as Darmanitan, from switching in. Thunder Wave is Registeel main selling point, as it cripples most sweepers for the remainder of the match; and is it is also one of the main reasons to use Registeel over similar Pokemon, such as Bronzong. However, Toxic can be used over Thunder Wave to cripple bulky opponents, such as Slowbro and Rhyperior, who otherwise laugh at Registeel. As Registeel's offensive stats are quite low, Seismic Toss is used to get the best move for him to chip away at his opponents. Earthquake is the preferred option in the last slot as it hits Pokemon such as Darmanitan and Chandelure for super effective damage on the switch-in. However, Shadow Claw hits Mismagius, Rotom, and Xatu.</p>

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

<p>The EV spread maximizes Registeel's special bulk as his typing lends itself to walling special attackers, and because most physical attackers in UU carry a ("Fighting or Ground"?) move that hits Registeel for super effective damage.
