Ubers has traditionally been considered a banlist, not a real tier, an over-centralized meta with no room for creativity - but with the advent of Generation 6, it's the polar opposite.
Ever since ADV, Ubers has seen a steady increase in popularity, users and Mons themselves. Those deemed too strong for OU reside in the depths of Ubers, forever known as the titans of the game. With OR/AS came a cataclysmic power shift in the tier, brought along by the Primals, Mega-Rayquaza and more. The tier now houses the fastest metagame of them all - With one of the biggest ladders on Pokemon Showdown and a welcoming, friendly chat-room, why not make Ubers your next tier?
THE RULES
- Sleep Clause Mod: Limit one foe put to sleep
- Species Clause: Limit one of each Pokemon
- Moody Clause: Moody is banned
- OHKO Clause: OHKO moves are banned
- Endless Battle Clause: Forcing endless battles is banned
- HP Percentage Mod: HP is reported as percentages
- Swagger Clause: The usage of the move Swagger is prohibited
- Mega Rayquaza Ban Mod: You cannot mega evolve Rayquaza
THE BASICS
Ubers is an extremely diverse meta, further accentuated by the fact that all 718 pokemon currently in the Pokêdex are allowed (not counting the behemoth Mega-Rayquaza). You can very viably use different strategies to the fullest extent of their potential.
As of right now, there are three main archetypes, those being:
- Offense (hit the opponent, and when they hit you back, hit them harder)
- Stall (wait out the opponent with status, phazing, PP stalling and more - slowly erode their sanity)
- Balance (the traditional, all around team with a strong check for all relevant threats)
There are several different branches off of those three, but typically, teams fit snuggly into one of those categories. Some popular classifications of branches from those are hyper offense, bulky offense and quickstall, both of which are rather self-explanatory.
Some strategies also involved in Ubers that are hard to classify are Sticky Web teams, which focus on out-speeding and out-hitting the enemy team, Baton/Evasion Pass teams, focusing on gaining momentum through passing stat boosts, and Gimmick teams, involving things such as Lvl 1 Aron/Pineco and Special Mega-Mewtwo-X. There are, of course, many other smaller archetypes as well - experiment and find the right one for you!
