Download allows it to become a strong offensive threat if it gets a Special Attack boost. Ice Beam hits Pokemon like Raging Bolt, Rillaboom, and both Landorus formes. Tera Blast is a strong STAB option before Tera, and when used with Tera Poison, it can hit Pokemon like Ogerpon-W and Ogerpon-H. However, if Tera Ghost is used, then Tera Blast becomes strong against Flutter Mane. On the defensive side, both Tera Poison and Tera Ghost give Porygon2 a resistance or immunity to Fighting-type attacks from foes such as Chien-Pao and both Urshifu formes. Tera Poison also gives a resistance to Flutter Mane's Fairy-type attacks, while Tera Ghost provides an immunity to priority such as Extreme Speed and Fake Out. However, Terastallizing can come at a cost, such as being left weak to Landorus's Earth Power or Flutter Mane's Shadow Ball. Recover allows Porygon2 to heal off any chip damage, sometimes allowing it to set Trick Room multiple times per game. Porygon2 appreciates Incineroar and redirectors like Ogerpon-W and Amoonguss to help set up Trick Room, which helps teammates like Amoonguss and Kingambit. Kingambit along with Urshifu-R can also threaten the problematic Incineroar, which can be an issue with Fake Out and Knock Off.

Porygon 2 should be used with teammates that appreciate Trick Room such as Kingambit and Amoonguss. Porygon 2 can struggle with Incineroar as it can Knock Off Porygon 2's Eviolite and lower its damage output with Parting Shot so teammates that help with this such as Urshifu-R and the aforementioned Kingambit make for good partners. Porygon 2 appreciates teammates like Incineroar and Follow Me Ogerpon-W that can help it set up Trick Room.
