Welcome to the NFE Open! This will be a single elimination tournament in the NFE format, as part of the inaugural Unofficial Metagames Circuit and the Unofficial Metagames Grand Slam! This tournament will earn you points for both the year-long circuit, as well as the Grand Slam! This will be a single elimination best of three tournament held in the NFE format on Pokemon Showdown. Standard Rules and Clauses
  • General tournament rules and regulations can be found here
  • Species Clause: A player cannot have two Pokémon with the same Pokédex number on his team.
  • Sleep Clause: You cannot inflict sleep upon more than one member of the opposing team.
  • Evasion Clause: The moves Double Team and Minimize are banned.
  • OHKO Clause: The moves Horn Drill, Guillotine, Sheer Cold, and Fissure are banned.
  • Team Preview: Players must turn on the Team Preview feature where players can view the opposing team's Pokémon and choose their lead Pokémon.
  • Timer Clause: If a player exhausts the timer, he/she loses.
  • Endless Battle Clause: Any moveset on any Pokémon that is capable of intentionally causing an endless battle is banned from competitive play. Check this thread for more information.
About Activity Decisions

Activity Decisions / Coin Flips: In the event that there is an uncompleted match at the deadline, it will be coin flipped unless one or both of the players involved in the match specifically request an activity win and explain sufficiently why they deserve to win over their opponent. Attempting to schedule a battle is required in order to receive the win by activity. To make it clear that you are requesting an activity win when you post, you must open your post with "Activity Win Request" in bold.

For example, if you believe your opponent is making an unfair request and that they don't deserve the activity win over you, you can either make your own request or quote their post and explain why they don't deserve it. You should try to make your activity win request posts at least 24 hours before the deadline to give your opponent a reasonable opportunity to contest it with their own activity win request.

Host discretion will be applied for all unplayed games. This means that an activity win will not be automatically granted if you post, and a lack of post does not automatically result in a coinflip.

To compensate for the awkward deadline, I'll be moving the extension deadline to this Sunday, February 4, 11:59 PM GMT-5, and this round's matchups to next Sunday on February 11, 11:59 GMT-5. Replays are mandatory!

Re: VigilanteVigoroth vs. New York Ninjas
After examining both walls, we have decided to give an extension rather than a coinflip to both players to Sunday, February 4, 11:59 GMT-5. New York Ninjas at the time failed to provide a proper timezone and has missed a scheduled game. Please remember to provide a timezone for future tours and work with both your and your opponent's timezones in the future.

VigilanteVigoroth New York Ninjas

won in 3, ggs VigilanteVigoroth!

Quick thoughts:
- Gligar is the best Pokemon in the tier. Unimaginable sets that are very effective and how they control the hazard meta is the reason why I am spamming it so much. Gligar isn't necessary, but it makes building much easier in this tier. Knock Gligar isn't worth it unless you've another rocker who can't break Hattrem and Quaxwell.
- Pair it with Quaxwell, another Gurdurr check, and a psychic/grass check and you've honestly covered the majority of the tier.
- Shell Smash Wartortle is extremely powerful with multiple opportunities to set that many others can't, use it with Gligar and you're good to go.
- Servine is extremely scary, and the same goes for grass spam. You're in a rough spot if your Qwilfish-Hisui is the only Pokemon that can switch into it tbh. I expect a rise in Koffing, Tinkatuff, Vullaby, and Sliggo-Hisui to counteract it.
- Qwilfisih is unfair lmfao. May not last as long, but there are no good ways to prep it. Finding out that Gligar is not as solid Qwilfish-Hisui check makes it funnier lol.
- Electabuzz is so mid. How is it S rank when it can't be into the field a lot of times and needs a lot of support imo. Just underwhelming atm rlly.
