Good points. Didn't realize it got some more benchmark kills with Life orb. Does it get those same kills with a Pixie plate? like Siggu said, mono attacking pixie is best. If you happen to run a HP (Which I still have no idea how to reliably get a HP in game) then Life orb would be better

LO is significant in almost the things i wrote in the last post, compared to pixie plate. im not going to post any more of the calcs because we are going to have a better discussion by doing calcs or posting replays or actual experience instead of just guessing

I`m honestly baffled. I thought this mon was garbage since it`s release. Just another "filler" mon or "gimmick" mon...and yet it`s good. I feel so trolled right now XD

  • is this the second coming of talonflame?
Err, probably not.

252+ Atk Choice Band Talonflame Brave Bird vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mew: 235-277 (68.9 - 81.2%)
252+ SpA Choice Specs Comfey Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mew: 100-118 (29.3 - 34.6%)

Also everyone stop using Big Root. Leftovers is better in pretty much every situation. Leftovers will heal 17 HP per turn on max HP Comfey. To have Big Root out-heal Leftovers you have to average at about 80 damage per turn with Draining Kiss literally every single turn, including somehow when you switch in. In optimal conditions you might find rare moments where Big Root heals more but typically Leftovers will be much more reliable.

Ok thanks for the calcs. I wanted to see if you could find a way to not use life orb to get the full healing, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Still, Leech seed would also negate some of the LO damage.

Updated minimum EV spread for Pheromosa counter, for survival after Stealth Rocks.

252 HP / 132 Def / 124 SpA
Modest Nature

252 Atk Life Orb Pheromosa Poison Jab vs. 252 HP / 132 Def Comfey: 224-265 (73.2 - 86.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
124+ SpA Comfey Draining Kiss vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Pheromosa: 276-326 (97.5 - 115.1%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO

That said, you can go even bulkier if you opt for Pixie Plate over a different item.

252 HP / 188 Def / 68 SpA
Bold Nature

252 Atk Life Orb Pheromosa Poison Jab vs. 252 HP / 188+ Def Comfey: 192-229 (62.7 - 74.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
68 SpA Pixie Plate Comfey Draining Kiss vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Pheromosa: 284-336 (100.3 - 118.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Fun facts of the day:

252+ SpA Comfey Draining Kiss vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Pheromosa: 314-372 (110.9 - 131.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 Atk Life Orb Pheromosa Poison Jab vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Comfey: 257-304 (83.9 - 99.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Life Orb Pheromosa High Jump Kick vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Comfey: 156-183 (50.9 - 59.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Life Orb Pheromosa U-turn vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Comfey: 84-100 (27.4 - 32.6%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
4 SpA Life Orb Pheromosa Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Comfey: 103-121 (33.6 - 39.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Mind you, Triage offers Draining Kiss +3 priority so Pheromosa cannot ever outspeed.

I mean yeah thats great that you can survive that and OHKO Pheromosa, but how about other pokemon? Are you doing enough damage to them?

The first spread is for if you're paranoid about Stealth Rock, the original 252/4/252+ spread still works and uses the max damage EV spread.

The second spread is for extra physical bulk while running a Calm Mind set.

Was just providing alternatives.

Oh I like alternitives, but just was wondering if throwing Pheromosa for the damage numbers is best. I mean sure being able to OHKO that queen is prefered, but she has paper defences.

And besides, you only need a min 88% roll to get a guaranteed OHKO on Pheromosa after rocks, or a min 90% roll to OHKO after LO recoil, or 78% if you want both.

36+ SpA Comfey Draining Kiss vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Pheromosa: 252-296 (89 - 104.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
60+ SpA Comfey Draining Kiss vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Pheromosa: 258-306 (91.1 - 108.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock (If you want Pheromosa to get KOed after one round of LO recoil, if SR is not in the field)

0 SpA Comfey Draining Kiss vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Pheromosa: 218-258 (77 - 91.1%) -- 25% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock (No matter what set you use, Pheromosa is KOed after SR and one round of LO recoil) (Although, Pheromosa has an extremely slim chance of surviving Draining Kiss, SR and LO recoil if you run less than 12 SpA EVs on a neutral nature)
0 SpA Pixie Plate Comfey Draining Kiss vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Pheromosa: 260-308 (91.8 - 108.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Remember, Big Root also stacks with Leech Seed, and Comfey's doesn't have a lot of HP. Oh, and Leftovers heals a maximum of 19 HP.

People, if you are having trouble deciding between Leftovers and Big Root, please check out the calculator I made. I don't want that tedious work to go to waste.

lol why not just run full HP / SPATK again?

252+ SpA Comfey Draining Kiss vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Pheromosa: 284-336 (100.3 - 118.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Life Orb Pheromosa Poison Jab vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Comfey: 257-304 (83.9 - 99.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Also, why Game Freak missed the opportunity to call this mon Alolan Klefki?

Comfey a Pheromosa counter? LOL wut? It's a decent check, though definitely not a counter. Doesn't switch well on Life Orb HJK or U-Turn unless your phys def invested. Poison Jab massacres it on the switch. No one is staying in with Phero unless they forgot about Triage which can be easily forgotten about. It's a checkmate situation on 1 vs 1 last Pokemon scenarios, though any other situation will usually be your opponent scaring Comfey with a Steel switch in. Which Comfey does jack shit to most except for Seeds on the switch.

Comfey honestly doesn't look that good with it's mediocre Sp.Atk stat and Draining Kiss's laughable base power. It has the potential to sweep with enough CM boosts and team weakening. Though quite hard to do with so many good steels and Fire and Poison types also threatening it.

Did you look at the damage numbers? Comfey can survive a LO boost as long as you put in max HP and 4 defense. it then OHKO's with a +3 priority draining kiss(probably heals up almost all her health too)

Comfey

Dual Screens
Comfey @ Light Clay
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Light Screen
- Reflect
- Taunt
- U-Turn
How does it get reflect? I'm getting Illegal on Showdown, and it's not shown in bulbapedia

Or Pheramosa deals significant damage on the switch in only to switch to a Fairy resist. Congrats, you just healing kissed a Ferrothorn.

Comfy is cool and all but aside from shakily checking something with Deoxys A level defense (literally anything with priority does this) it isn't actually good for much .

Well then you make a predictive U-Turn and counter switch, throw a taunt (Ferrothorn will love that), or use a free aromatherapy. If you're throwing this thing out just to use draining kiss offensively, you're using it wrong.

Here's what I've been running on Comfey and it's been working wonders.

Comfey @ Leftovers
Ability: Triage
EVs: 252 HP / 208 Def / 44 SpA / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Draining Kiss
- Leech Seed
- Synthesis

It can tank some physical attacks surprisingly well, and has Calm Mind to eat up special attacks. I personally love pairing it up with Klefki so it can set up it's dual screens to help support Comfey set up Calm Minds/Leech Seeds. The healing potential on Comfey is insane with Triage, Leftovers, Leech Seed, Priority Draining Kiss, and Synthesis.

Here's a replay where I utilized Comfey's bulk along with the plethora of healing options:

Boy that guy had no answers lol

You may be better off running a Big Root or Fairy Plate if your using it with calm mind because it'll get better heal amounts if it's running both leech seed and draining kiss together compared to Leftovers.
