Battlefield 3 (now with gun damage numbers)

I never knife people because i'm more of a support player (M249, best gun I have used so fare) so I don't knife alot (does the support class get the M320 greanade laucher?).

I knife good players to collect their tags for fun. For noobs who won't have any tags, I just kill them with my main gun to collect points towards Service Stars. :)

does everyone play sniper class in this game like in Bad Company 2? Because that's what pretty much made me give up on that game.
Heheheh, I remember Rush maps where there would be 5 dudes on each team sniping and 5 dudes that were medics skulking in the shadows before running out to Revive people. Got pretty old.

This time around, there aren't that many snipers, and good ones are very rare.

Since I'm a masochist, I've decided to get the Handgun Mastery Medal. I've only got ~90 kills so far tho, and I need 500.

I've completely tanked my KDR to do this, and I'm pretty sure my teams are raging at me for intentionally dying a lot or whatever. And honestly, they'd rage even more if they saw me getting killed while teabagging people, which happens a few times every game.

someone come on xbox live and play this game with me now. i hate playing when im not with a friend it sucks so bad.

gamertag is ajnardo

I bought this game this week, and I'm loving it. So much better than any CoD in my opinion.
I really hate the american weapons in this game :/, Russian weapons are just better tbh.
And fuck the LMG's, lol.
The campaign was quite a disappointment. I just find it dull.

It took me a bit to get the hang of it, but I was doing really good after I got used to it.
And yes, I do a lot better when I'm on the Russian army, mainly because there's more attachments on my AK than the M16.
The main thing I noticed is that leveling up ridiculously slow. It took me about 10 or so matches to get to level 2, lol. I think that's part of why my friends quit playing it, or they're just not used to it...
It's a nice change of pace, and i'll play it when I want a break from getting trolled in MW3; at least this game has a sense of realism added to it.

I almost broke 10000(9900) a few days ago. Though I find it so much easier to get 8000+ then it was in bc2. Most I'd ever got in BC2 was like 6500ish. I guess because you get much moar points in bf3.

Well for conquest players I want to know how do you guys start off? I usually take a jet and fly to B to take it quickly, though sometimes I'm forced to drive to it.

the M4A1 (US Engineer default weapon) is the best carbine statistically and the M16A3 (US Assault default) is the best all around assault rifle in the game.

in fact, everything US is better than the RU counterpart, the notable exception being T90A > Abrams (and SU 35 >>>>> F35, but they aren't counterparts).

^ The probably did that just so people wouldn't be ticked that America wasn't always the best, because that just might cause a COMPLETE OUTRAGE, and would seem to label the game anti-american... /sarcasm

so that means you get (some of) the best guns automatically? kinda stupid considering how long it takes to unlock everything in this game, giving little to motivate you to unlock something...

Anyone else a knifing addict like me?
I've been addicted to the knife since Bad Company. Though the learning curve between the knives in BC2 and BF3 is insane, as the knife isn't as broke any more. Thank God. I still find it quite easy, especially my lunge.
I got quite knife-happy in BC2, but as much as I like taking dogtags in BF3, it sadly doesn't happen as often. This is for several reasons, main the fact that you can no longer insta-kill people from the front. The fact that there's no body armor in BF3 (and bullets simply do more damage than in BC2) also makes it harder to get within melee range a lot of the time. That being said, I do feel like BF3 is improved compared to BC2, at least as a game mechanic. I like the fact that it's now a silent kill (making it actually quite a practical option for times when you sneak up on a squad and want to take someone out without blowing your cover).

It sucked in BC2 when you just wanted to break a fence silently but noooooo your guy has to go all rambo over it and SCREAM

What is your favourite maps, everyone?

Mine is Operation Metro for TDM and Operation Firestorm or Caspian Border for Conquest.

Also, is B2K worth it?

B2K is definitely worth it. Gulf of Oman is one of my favourite maps, although a lot of people do really enjoy Strike at Karkand as well. Sharqi Peninsula and Wake Island are both very good maps as well.

I almost exclusively play Conquest, and Kharg Island is my favourite.

10k points in one round?
I've gotten 47k in one round before. xD!
I'm like Birdy 20 right now.

3k stabs in BF3 24k in BC2. Yeyeah! :D!

I play on the console and recently I started playing a lot of conquest, mainly because I wanted to give the tanks a spin. I had to play quite a lot of conquest to get the tank fully unlocked though :p As for taking objectives, usually I try and spawn in either a tank or I look for a little jeep at the deployment. Sometimes I'll hop into a jet if the map has a lot of helicopters etc since I'm ok at taking down enemy helicopters and even enemy tanks sometimes. Once the game gets going my mentality is pretty much- if you have more than half the flags, make sure you don't lose any. If you don't, go and get more flags.

On conquest assault modes, on defense I spawn in at the objective closest to the enemy deployment since then you get into the action straight away. On offense it's just a matter of get as many flags as you can.

As for the talk about the weapons, yea I agree that the american weapons are usually just superior to the russian ones. However since the AK has a significantly lower fire rate, controlling the recoil is a lot easier. I also find that it's a bit more accurate while shooting at medium range but that may just be me. I don't think that the M16 is the best assault rifle though. The F2000 is much better at close range although it is inaccurate at distance. The AEK is also beastly up close and even medium ranges but it has a lot of kick to it. I'm growing fond of using the FAMAS with grip + silencer nowadays, especially with the 3 round burst.

As for engineer weapons, M4A1 is probably the best yeah. However the HK53 is also pretty damn good and feels more accurate to me and has more manageable recoil IMO.

So 3 new BF3 expansions have been announced. They will be out in June, Fall and Winter.

Here's the complete details for all three upcoming Battlefield 3 expansion packs:

Battlefield 3: Close Quarters – In Battlefield 3: Close Quarters, players are dropped into a frantic, infantry-only theatre of war. Frostbite 2 high definition destruction makes the environment come alive as everything from furniture to plaster gets shot to pieces. Players will feel the intensity of the world exploding around them as rubble and broken pieces pile up on the floor, while tight level design and vertical gameplay create a highly competitive environment. Battlefield 3: Close Quarters also introduces new weapons, assignments and unique dog tags to bring back to the base game.
Battlefield 3: Armored Kill – Following the tight infantry gameplay of Battlefield 3: Close Quarters, DICE will release Battlefield 3: Armored Kill that ups the ante for vehicular mayhem as only Battlefield can do. Featuring new driveable tanks, ATVs, mobile artillery and more, Battlefield 3: Armored Kill also delivers huge battlefields for an all-out vehicle assault, including the biggest map in Battlefield history.
Battlefield 3: End Game – The fourth expansion pack will ship in the winter but details remain tightly guarded.

So does anyone play bf3 on the pc? Cause all my friends have it for console and the few that do play it on pc are never around lol.
And if you do have pc, it's hilarious going on 64 man metro medic, the amount of points you get from grenades, revives, and med kits is insane, i think i got up to like 50k points one round.
Also, can anyone tell me a good support loadout? I've been mainly playing assult and engie, and i want to know how to play support, i never really play it that much.

I'm looking forward to the Close Quarters DLC now. While it may be a bit COD-like, Battlefield is still a completely different game and I imagine it will still feel very much like Battlefield. I hope they add some more SMGs and maybe another pump-action shotty though in terms of weapons, and perhaps the AUG or TAR-21 for assault weapons? I don't know.

As for a good support loadout, I find there's three ways you can go. First is to use the M27 / RPK and use it like an Assault kit but with C4 and Ammo, since the M27 / RPK handle very much like the M416 / AK-74M assault rifles. The M249 also works for an aggressive playstyle. Alternatively, for a more defensive style you can go with a Bipod LMG such as the M240B or my favourite the PKP Pecheneg. PKP is a 3-shot kill at close range and does more damage over range than the other LMGs and so it's very useful for taking control of certain areas and lines of sight. The third option would be to pack a PDW or shotgun and adopt a more rushing playstyle. Since PDWs tend to run out of ammo quickly due to high fire rates, using it with the Support w/ ammo completely negates that problem.

When you do choose to play support, my only advice is to drop ammo everywhere. If you see someone, drop ammo at them. That simple.

Cool, I'll check out those guns. More interested in using lmgs though, so ill try that out. Need to unlock a few guns though, haven't played support much. Thanks!

I'm surprised this thread has been so inactive, so much has just happened in Battlefield.

Starting off with the DLC announcements. For those who are not following, DICE has released some information about their DLC plans- Close Quarters is due in June, Armored Kill and End Game will follow. A trailer for Close Quarters has also been released, and it seems hectic as fuck. Of course as was the case with Karkand, lots of new weapons have been added including FPS favourites such as the AUG, SPAS-12 and TAR-21. They also upped the destruction even more to the point where even normal bullets will cause major destruction since a lot of the action is indoors with thin walls. Armored Kill will focus on vehicle gameplay and apparently the largest map ever seen in Battlefield. No details on End Game have been released yet.

I'm sure a few of you will have heard of the new patch that came out for PS3 yesterday and is due for PC and Xbox soon. Here is a link to a post that lists the changes. And it's a massive list. The patch does a number of things- it's aimed at trying to balance the weapons out, fix bugs, and add some features that have been requested by the community. There have been tweaks to pretty much every weapon and the barrel attachments have been changed significantly. Most important changes IMO in terms of weapons:

Heavy Barrel:
The recoil penalty when equipped has been significantly decreased and is now weapon specific as opposed to global. Using HBar also increases bullet speed on all carbines and the G3A3. HBar also increases the distance at which bullet drop off starts, making your bullets more effective at range. The downsides of using HBar are increased hipfire spray, increase in bullet spread for full auto (Bursts of more than 2 or 3 bullets are ill-advised when shooting at mid-long range) and a slight vertical recoil penalty.

Flash Suppressor:
Whereas before the Flash Suppressor was completely outclassed by the Suppressor, now it is one of the most helpful attachments. The aimed accuracy penalty has been removed for automatic weapons. The Flash Suppressor now reduces the recoil significantly more than a Suppressor. The only downside is an increase in hipfire spray. I highly recommend using the flash suppressor on the heavier LMGs.

Suppressor:
While before the Suppressor was pretty much the best choice for 3rd attachment, it's been significantly nerfed. The accuracy bonus has been decreased greatly, and the recoil reduction bonus has also been decreased. The Suppressor is still great for close range, but for mid or long range shooting a HBar would be a better fit.

Foregrip:
Whereas the foregrip had no downsides before, now there is a small aimed accuracy penalty and the recoil reduction bonus has also been decreased. The aimed accuracy penalty is offset by HBar or Suppressor if attached though. Before the patch, the foregrip was the go-to attachment, but now, for loadouts designed to take on enemies at mid range, going without a foregrip is probably a better option. For example you can now run AN-94 w/ underslung rail and Heavy Barrel and use the underslung rail to mount a grenade launcher or shotgun, the latter of which can be very helpful considering the AN-94 sucks at close range.

More significant changes for individual weapons:
M240B and M60E4 now have a max damage of 34, which is the same as the PKP. This means that they only take 3 shots to kill at point blank.
FAMAS now has a 25 round magazine and has HELLUVA recoil. Seriously. If you try and take on anything even beyond 30 m or so you will pretty much use up your entire mag to kill one guy.
AN-94 has been buffed. The vertical recoil has been reduced and the fire rate has increased to 1200 RPM for 2-round burst for consoles (PC had this change made in the previous patch)
Each semi auto shotgun was given small tweaks to make them stand out from the other semi auto shotguns. For example, the M1014 now has a higher r.o.f, the saiga12k has a bigger mag etc. The spread for them as also been made tighter than the fully auto shotties. The pump action 870 still has the tightest spread though.

And of course the bolt actions can now OHK to the chest at point blank range. I have mixed feelings about this, but I think the recon did need some buffs and hopefully this will encourage snipers to actually play the objective and not sit at the back of the map sniping.

That was a long post whew.

TL;DR: go here. This patch has completely transformed the game. For better or worse.

At first glance I thought the new patch would be amazing. And while the game has certainly improved from a close quarters perspective, I can't help but feel like the patch has made the game less functional overall.

Maybe it's just me, I don't know. The game just doesn't feel like it's working the way it should. Besides that minor gripe, long range sniping is now a complete joke. The bullets you fire look like huge blobs of light, making anything past 200 meters an annoying ordeal. Of course, this isn't a huge issue for smaller maps, but the new patch completely puts long range sniping against your favor. Tracking where yours shots hit is almost impossible.

When I first played post-patch, not gonna lie I too felt that anything beyond close range was impossible to hit. But then after experimenting with Heavy Barrel and Flash Suppressor and taking of foregrips I've found that it's not that hard really, it just takes a bit of practice getting used to. Also full auto fire is a lot less effective than it was before, and is only really worth it either in extreme close quarters when you hipfire or with LMGs for suppression. Oh and suppression has been massively buffed now. Not only does it decrease your accuracy, it also doubles your recoil which makes the suppression and cover specialisations even more viable, which is a good thing IMO since it adds more variety.

As for long range sniping, I don't know I can still hit those 200m ish shots and any further than that just seems pointless to me.
