Something Worth Fighting For
Articuno @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 204 SpD / 56 Spe
Calm Nature
- Roost
- Defog
- Freeze-Dry
- Heal Bell
Articuno has seen a recent surge of viability and usage due to the influx of stall-oriented teams in high-level tournament play. As a secondary entry hazard remover, Articuno utilizes Roost, Pressure, and its absurd special bulk to reliably check entry hazard setters such as Qwilfish and Mudsdale, Toxic users such as Tangela and specially defensive Alolan Sandslash, and certain special wallbreakers and setup sweepers such as Lilligant and Choice Specs Jellicent. Articuno is extremely susceptible to Stealth Rock and is usually not a stand-alone entry hazard remover; therefore, Pokemon such as Claydol, Altaria, and Oricorio-E can remove entry hazards, particularly Stealth Rock, alongside Articuno. Other Pokemon commonly used alongside Articuno on stall teams include Pyukumuku, Regirock, and Audino. The first two appreciate the Grass resistance Articuno provides, while Audino enjoys having a moveslot open to utilize Encore or Toxic. Audino also appreciates having a secondary special tank to fall back on if it becomes overwhelmed by special wallbreakers.
