Announcement 2024 Unofficial Metagames Tournament Schedule

It's time for the inaugural year of the UM tournament circuit! UM players will have a chance to prove that they are the best by competing in a series of tournaments throughout the year and earning points. At the end of the year, there will be a seeded best of five playoffs consisting of the top 16 players with the most points. The winner of the playoffs will be crowned the overall best UM player of the year and receive a prize banner. The prize banner will last for a year or until a different champion is crowned.

The schedule will proceed as follows. Dates are subject to minor change.

Tournament Details​

UM Grand Slam

UM Grand Slam is a two-stage tournament. Stage 1 consists of the Ubers UU, ZU, AG, 2v2, and NFE Opens. Opens are Type B, best-of-3, single-elimination tournaments where participants earn points in an attempt to qualify for the second stage.The 8 players with the most points at the end of all of these tournaments compete in the second stage, which is a Type A, seeded single-elimination tournament (AKA UMGS Playoffs).

Both the Opens themselves and the Grand Slam Playoffs will count towards qualifying for the Circuit Championships.

Seasonals

Seasonals are Type A, best-of-3, double-elimination tournaments. There are five seasonals, one for each of the main tournament metagames. Seasonals are Type A despite being single-UM tournaments because they're the most reflective of each metagame's playerbase before the Circuit Championships.

Homefield Advantage

Homefield is a best-of-3 single elimination tour where players signup with a "Homefield" tier of their choice (e.g. Ubers UU), and it remains set for the entire tournament. Every week, a tier will randomly be designated as the "starting" tier, meaning that the first game in each bo3 must be that metagame. The loser's homefield tier will be played in game 2, and game 3 will be the remaining player's homefield tier. Because the principle of this type of tournament is to allow players to guarantee that their chosen homefield metagame is played no matter what, it is possible for the bo3 sets to feature the same metagame more than once (e.g. starting tier = NFE, my tier = NFE, opponent's tier = NFE).

No Johns LCQ

As the name implies, this will be a best-of-3 single elimination tournament featuring all 5 UMs set up as the last chance to gain circuit points before circuit playoffs. In typical "No Johns" fashion, every round will only last 3-4 days instead of the typical full week.
