speaking of The Matrix though, I feel like a theme that wasn't explored enough was the fact that the humans are the ones responsible for creating the machines in the first place. That rarely is a factor. Seems like they just needed a way to put the humans into Plato's Cave and that seemed the most convenient way. But that rarely factors into the plot. If Aliens invaded and created The Matrix instead, it wouldn't change much.


I compare this to something like The Terminator where the fact that they created Skynet is a huge theme.

Yeah. The most you get is "you need us and we need you" that Councillor Hamman *doesn't* make a point of in Reloaded and then Neo explains to The Architect and later the Deus Ex Machina.
