I thought this was gonna be another low-effort "asian megacity dystopia future" (which I am a fan of but takes basically no creativity to make a game out of), in some kind of rpg/gamemaker background. Man it was nice to be proven wrong, this looks sick. My only hope is that it's not a low-effort cyberpunk gungeon roguelike clone now..........

I really really really love this trailer. AMS1 did so much good stuff that they just threw away. It's got a unique tone and tries to emulate the "ultimate" series of spider-man comics, which is really good. It's really really funny tbh, that car thief scene is good. I never saw the second but man it looks so bad

You get invested in Jack and he dies

anyway I'm pretty sure this is James Cameron still being salty that Newt and Hicks were killed in the opening credits of Alien 3 lol

which to be fair is an ok thing to be upset about considering he was the creator of those characters

In 1999, Dan Aykroyd wrote a script for a possible third film, titled Ghostbusters III: Hellbent.[17] In a 2004 interview, Bill Murray stated that he didn't want to appear in a potential third installment and for that reason, the cast considered replacing him with Ben Stiller.[18]

      Okay here's my theory

A story that involves a world-scale invasion or taking over the world or something CAN work and can have tension

But only if it is a story in two parts. The invasion/attempt to take over the world cannot be the climax
      1. View previous comments...
      2. GatoDelFuego
        GatoDelFuego
Ok sure, but I don't think people liking small personal villains "now" versus 5 years ago is proof that an invasion climax doesn't work. And yeah maybe a movie franchise is tensionless but I don't think that means "stories" can't include an invasion in the end, for example a book could do it pretty well I guess! Or it could be an anti-end.

Like idk, what about the body snatchers? That's not in two parts.

I thought you were working on some grand unified theory with a breakthrough realization that actually invasions CAN be ok, so long as it's not the finale of a movie.

the technology in Star Wars is kinda funky, know what I mean? Like in 1977 Lucas could make up whatever he wanted

but then technology advanced so rapidly that in some cases it is kinda weird that we have technology they don't have.

like how the Millennium Falcon doesn't have any sort of user verification, so it can get stolen over and over. holograms that can only display shades of blue etc.

like Gozer appears and shows how powerful (s?)he is and then becomes the Stay Puft man. And then they shoot the Stay Puft man and it dies. That's it.

When that happened I actually thought "ok, here we go, a tedious 20 minute boss-battle action sequence" that I really didn't want to sit through. And in another movie maybe they would do that, but they didn't here, like they knew that would be the reaction.. Really amazed me actually.

and it's not like that quickness felt cheap or pointless either. Because it was the payoff for the earlier set-up of not crossing the streams. they just didn't waste a bunch of time with pointless action sequences before coming up with the idea.

an example where this didn't happen was Suicide Squad when the Enchantress fights them for a while and then is like "enough" and takes away all their weapons.

I guess I wanted him to be more subtle because the whole point was that throughout the film, he was subtle. He represented the tendency of human beings to turn to conflict. He's like the devil: he tempts people, but never makes them act against their own nature. He even said as much.

But then he turns into this "end of the world" monster. Why even create wars when you can destroy all the shit yourself. Or why even be subtle about it? Anyway I still think if they wanted a big fight it could be exciting without so much stuff being thrown around. IDK.

I guess it's just a problem with the DC world existing in film but only select parts of it. In the grand scope of the DC universe, having Greek gods be real is just one of many fantastic things. But in this, Ares should be a way bigger deal. Like what the heck? A guy who is basically the devil is real? How does that not change literally everything.
