Welcome to the SM OU version of 'What's their last?'!

Long ago back in DPP, there was no team preview and the question of "What's their last?" was commonly asked. You had to prepare for anything in that last slot and come to an educated guess or conclusion. Even still today, we use these skills to build better, more efficient teams. Think of this project as a lesson in teambuilding!

Every round a new team of 5 will be posted, your guys' job is to use your knowledge and deductive teambuilding skills to suggest the final slot of the team. Over the next few days, these nominations will be discussed amongst the users until voting opens. Voting sessions will go up one week after teh team for said round has been posted, and the nomination with the most votes, will be the winner! In addition to that there will be a Honorbake Mention for nominee who guessed that last mon correctly The team will be archived, and the user who suggested the set will have his or her name alongside the team, archived.

------------
Rules & Guidelines
1. Standard OU forum rules apply. No flaming / antagonising please. Also no one liners.
2. No joke sets. Sets that are plain bad / unviable are not welcome.
3. Don't be an ass and flame the team / sets that people post.
4. Reservations are okay, as long as you post the set within 24 hours of posting the reservation.
5. No weird gimmicks. If you think a low-rated Pokémon should add on the team, please give an in-depth explanation, but non-viable mons like Jolteon are not allowed.
6. Only minor slashing is allowed. Sometimes a coverage move or item is up to player preference, but you can't actually have 5 moves in a battle so don't go overboard.
7. Only one suggestion per round. Please only pick 1 Pokémon.
8. No changing the other members of the team, including sets.
9. Voting for your own nomination is NOT ALLOWED.
10. PM me on Smogon if you want to send in teams. Please only send in teams if you feel like they are good teams and have been tested, I can't promise that your team will be featured, but it's worth a try.
11. When choosing a last slot for a team, evaluate the archetype of the team and would it would synergise well with it. For example stall teams wouldn't appreciate the presence of Mega-Gallade.
12. Happy Posting!
13. You found the 13th rule ▲ i put a lot of effort into this so you should like it

Kartana @ Fightinium Z
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 8 HP / 188 Atk / 60 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Substitute
- Swords Dance
- Leaf Blade
- Sacred Sword

Sub SD Tana makes an excellent addition to the team, capitalizing on the Spikes support provided by Ash Greninja and gives the team a Z move user. This thing also gives the team a really nice wincon vs opposing bulky offenses and balances alike. Team just looks like it needs an SD tana in the last slot. Oh yeah this also makes it so the team doesn't autolose to stall either rofl s/o AM.

Toxapex @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Recover
- Toxic Spikes
- Haze

Teams weak to Keldeo, Volcarona,Char-Y, some defensive set up mons like Clefable, Mega Scizor, Mega Lopunny, and a whole bunch of other stuff Toxapex can slow down / check. T-Spikes support helps break down a lot of M-Cham checks like Mew.

Also on a sidenote its important to note that when people build M-Cham teams a lot of them look like this where they pretty much click X in the face of a M-Sableye stall, so it's only logical to pick a mon that doesn't even improve the stall matchup at all!!!

I gotta say, the two posts above are prolly the best ones but I think Bulu works, hear me out:

Tapu Bulu @ Grassium Z
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Horn Leech
- Superpower
- Wood Hammer

SD Bulu provides the team a secondary wallbreaker weakening common Ash-Gren switch ins such as Mega Sableye, Tapu Fini, Tangrowth, Chansey, and Magearna

+2 252 Atk Tapu Bulu Bloom Doom (190 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Magearna in Grassy Terrain: 412-486 (113.1 - 133.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Additionally, it also provides some defensive utility to the team switching into Koko and opposing Ash Gren, which are also big threats. Also helps with the stall matchup a bit.

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 220 SpD / 40 Spe
Calm Nature
- Lava Plume
- Toxic
- Taunt
- Earth Power

Fatter shit like Mew teams get dismantled by Heatran, something about team needing offensive pressure stop defog from mantine and tapu fini..losing train of thought here after halloween but it looks like it fits kinda helps with stall, loses to sab although im really loathe to lose leftovers..u can also run magma..that might be better to trap..

Heatran @ Groundium Z
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Magma Storm
- Earth Power
- Taunt
- Toxic

ya probably use this instead my bad.

only noobs need to reserve posts just get that shit written in one go

Keldeo @ Waterium Z
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Secret Sword
- Hydro Pump
- Taunt

Calm Mind Z-Keldeo fits well on the team because it can break through most Ash-Greninja and Mega-Medicham checks, gives a second form of breaking fatter teams which is always nice because you can't rely only on Mega-Medicham, otherwise you may lose to any balance/stall that carries Pokemon like Mew and Mega-Sableye. It also provides some defensive utilities, being able to check Mega-Scizor and Tyranitar, and provides an additional Water and Fire resist.

Well Tapu Bulu was already taken.... So I'll pick the next best thing and argue that.

Tangrowth:

<imagine a cute pic of Tangrowth here>

Tangrowth @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 244 HP / 20 Def / 232 SpD / 12 Spe
Sassy Nature
-Giga Drain
-Rock Slide
-Knock Off
-Earthquake

This team is currently critically weak to rain... specifically Mega-Swampert. It has the ability to 2hko the entire team. As is, the lando/magearna defensive core clearly needs a bulky grass type to eat up water/ground attacks from swampert and water type attacks in general. Bulu is a great choice for this, but lacks one thing that tangrowth can provide: a pivot switch from opposing tapu leles. Most leles running around are still scarf/specs choice-locked, and having a mon that can switch into either, before regenning off any damage is much needed. Currently magearna carries this weight, however specs lele's psyshock is an easy 3hko. With tangrowth, you can switch in to scout for psyshock or moonblast, determine item, and go into gren or magearna if needed. Lastly, as one may think ferrothorn could fill this role just as well, keep in mind that rocks and spikes have been accounted for on the team, making ferro a very unlikely choice.

So there you have it. Tangrowth is probably the best rain answer that also serves as a back up check to specs tapu lele. The set/spread chosen is my preferred way to train a tangrowth. Discussed in length here if you are wondering.

Edit: hp ice was changed to rock slide because hp ice is on lando (for zygarde) and hp fire is already on magearna and I don't feel redundant coverage is necessary. Rock slide is a nice lure for zardy y switching in--a mon this team does not really appreciate once lati is weakened.

Surprised no one has mentioned Volcorona yet
Set(s)

Volcarona @ Buginium Z
Ability: Swarm
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe9
Timid Nature
- Bug Buzz
- Fire Blast
- Quiver Dance
- Substitute
or
Volcarona @ Buginium Z
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Fire Blast
- Bug Buzz
- Psychic

Description: Both these sets help the team in multiple ways. First, it has good synergy well with latios and ash-greninja; also beating tapu bulu for gren and beating bulky and offensive steels that take advantage of latios such as magearna and celesteela. Also frees up a slot magearna by helping it beat ferrothorn and tangrowth. also lures stuff like ttar for latios. It sets up on mega sableye with ease for mega medicham. The sub set is for the stall match-up and the psychic set lures pex a bit. To conclude, i think volcorona benefits this team very well and hope this post helped.

Tapu Lele @ Psychium Z
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psyshock
- Moonblast
- Calm Mind
- Hidden Power Fire

Calm mind lele provides a solid stall breaker, which I think is needed on this team.

It can break fatter things like Sableye, Clefable, Mew (if Greninja is gone) and Mantine

Latios and Medicham appreciate the boost of Zen headbutt/Psyshock in psychic terrain. This also helps vs priority users (such as scizor/Mega pinsir)

I'm not sure why Pex got the most likes because that mon just does not fit on a team like this at all. It's too offensive, and the mons mentioned that the team is weak to is heavily over exaggerated; Keldeo is covered by Latios and Gear depending on the set, Volcarona is covered by Latios and priority from Ash or Medi, Mega Lopunny can be covered by Latios/Lando considering hardly anyone runs Ice Punch as much and between Spikes/priority flying all over the place Lopunny is going to have issues coming in constantly.

That being said, the team is definitely fucked by Mega Scizor and like CM Clefable, so Heatran makes the most sense. Groundium is kinda odd I think Firium would be more practical but w/e.
