Wartortle (ADV NU Analysis)

Disaster Area

formerly Piexplode
[Overview]
- Main draw is Rapid Spin. Has slightly different traits to Hitmonchan, but it's generally inferior. However, does get Foresight
- Doesn't get many chances to Spin in defensive matchups, gets worn down fairly easily but can be kept healthier with Cleric support
- Mediocre choice but worth trying out on Stall teams
- Should always be used as a lead

[SET]
name: Rapid Spin
move 1: Rapid Spin
move 2: Foresight
move 3: Surf
move 4: Toxic / Protect / Haze
item: Leftovers
nature: Calm
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
ivs: 0 Atk

[SET COMMENTS]
- Rapid Spin + Foresight is the main reason to even consider using it.
- Surf is STAB and fairly powerful off of unboosted base 65 SpA, though nothing to write home about.
- Last slot is fairly filler. Toxic has general utility spreading status, Protect allows it to scout leads, and Haze lets it stop certain sweepers in their tracks.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
- Nothing much to say other than Hitmonchan can generally do more.

[Other Options]
- Seismic Toss gets consistent damage but Surf's niche applications are generally more useful.
- Refresh
- Dynamic Punch (an option versus Glalie leads)
- Counter / Mirror Coat

[Checks and Counters]
- Toxic and offensive pressure can stop it from doing its job for a long time, so most teams needn't worry too much about it. It can't spin versus any of the Spikers, apart from Glalie, although it is able to break past the spinblockers (Haunter is 2HKOd by Surf some of the time though anyway).
