Maria breaks the record held by Graf and Seles in least numbers of games dropped to reach the QF at AO at 5 (by beating Olga Puchkova 60 60, Misaki Doi 60 60, Venus Williams 61 63, Kirsten Flipkens 61 60).

Serena dropped 3 more games than Maria but Serena is playing better. Aga and Vika flying under the radar, especially the former who hasn't dropped a single set this year yet and on a 13 or 14 match win streak.

Federer playing really well as well. I'd be surprised if he doesn't win this year tbh.

Definitely agree on this. Aggy lost today, very sad news :( Also Almagro, so frustrating. Had many chances to close it out, but failed to serve it out 3 times before injuring himself in the tiebreak. Disappointing.

Serena was injured half way through the second set and that's where everything fell apart. Not gonna take anything away from Sloane though, because the match did happen and injuries is unfortunately a part of the sport.

Maria is officially the favourite for the title, but it's really a toss-up between Maria and Vika. Even then, Maria isn't exactly guaranteed to beat Li. Today will be an interesting day. Heading to friend's apartment to cheer on Maria together! :)

Maria wtf.. I will be pissed if Li wins the tournament.

I'll be pissed if Li doesn't win now seeing her competitor in the finals, and how she got there... I've always hated Azarenka but after the shit she pulled against Stephens, I'd like to never see her win a match again. Don't get me wrong, I think she was going to win regardless, but that shit was just low. Disgrace to the sport and the Aus Open. Extremely poor judgement from the chair umpire as well.

At least I'm happy with the way the men's is going. Rooting for Federer and Ferrer, of course. I like Djoko too but if Ferrer is ever going to win a major final (he probably won't) it has to be soon.

I hate to double post but I just have to say in 10+ years of being a diehard tennis fan I've never been so disappointed to see someone win a major title as Azarenka. smfh

yeah for sure. I'm sorry but I'll have to say the stars aligned for Vika two years in a row. Clijsters getting injured amongst other variables in 2012, and Serena getting injured and Na getting injured TWICE in the final this year. Smh.

I can't think of multiple slam champion with a less imposing game and less generic than Azarenka, who just grinds away at the baseline. And what I mean by that is she excels at nothing. I guess being a jack of all trade isn't necessarily a bad thing but I'll just never understand how she wins those slams. She definitely redirects the ball very well at her peak but that's about it. Technically unsound serve, merely respectable groundstrokes (for a player who has won multiple slams), mediocre movement, average touch. She doesn't even have the best return, which is what she's most renowned for tbh. She's merely consistent with them.

I love Jennifer Capriati, but Azarenka might be the least imposing multiple slam champion since Jen, who also happened to be a jack of all trade, master of none. But I really appreciate Jen because she showed off her talent at the age of like 14, reaching a slam Semi, went through tough times, came back, changed up her game and still amanged to win 3 slams.

I don't follow the WTA much except for Sharapova and Aga (who is now blonde wtf), but is Sharapova now a clay court specialist? Haha, just kidding, for the most part. She has to be the favorite heading in RG unless something drastic happens (never thought I'd say that). Realistically RG is probably the best major for her to overcome Serena. I'd love to see that final.

Speaking of Sharapova... I mean Dimitrov's "girlfriend", Dimitrov got a huge win over Djokovic in Madrid after some near misses against the Big 4 early in the year. Most of the young players on the tour have continued to disappoint (Tomic, Harrison) and others have plateau'ed a bit (Raonic, Nishikori) so I am glad to see his rise.
As for RG for the men's side, Rafa is the obvious favorite but we will see if that Monte Carlo loss has any hangover for him. Djokovic probably wants RG the most out of anyone to complete the Career Slam, and how sweet would it be for Roger to win RG by beating Nadal or Djokovic in the final?

Federer really needs good results in the next two months or so, because he is defending a crapload of points and is only playing 13 tournaments this year. He is actually 10th in the YTD Rankings. Obviously he won't finish that low but I would say unless he wins a Slam that he will finish at best 4th, and maybe even 5th. Would be weird to see that happen

I just stumbled upon French Open coverage on one of our channels (ITV4) Djokovic playing some unknown I think so it's probably the first round right?

I assume the top 8 will have most of their games over the first 2 days right? :| I can't really remember how the french run their tennis opens lol

I'm so conflicted on who I want to win this women's final. Maria and Serena are two of my favorite players of all time. On one hand I want Maria to finally show Serena her teeth and make this "rivalry" less of a joke. On the other hand I'm hardcore rooting for Serena to pass up Evert and Navratilova in the slam count.

And yes I'm saying this before Serena even plays her match.

Murray for first Wimbledon! :D

Honestly, if its a Fed/Murray final I won't be too annoyed (not sure if that can happen with the draw though). Wish I wasn;t working right now so I could watch all of wimbledon :(
