Hello everyone! After seven opens of intense battling and close to 800 participants, we can finally start the final rounds of Smogon's fifth Grand Slam.

Before going more in details, I want to thank the people who participated in hosting the tournament. Huge thank you to teal6, Quote, Spirit, kamikaze, Kiyo, Fireburn and Magnemite for having hosted the different Opens. Also thank you to Zracknel and Bummer for providing the tournament's artwork. All your contributions are very appreciated!

Fourteen players have made it so far, and the overall standings can be found here: http://spo.ink/slam

1/ PDC - 33 points
2/ Ciele - 32 points
3/ DennisEG - 31 points
4/ Vinc2612 - 29 points
5/ Stax - 27 points - 83.3% Win ratio
5/ Advantage - 27 points - 80.0% Win ratio
5/ Rodriblutar - 27 points - 80.0% Win ratio
8/ Stallion - 24 points - 80.0% Win ratio
8/ .CarloO~ - 24 points - 80.0% Win ratio
10/ Sacri' - 23 points - 81.8% Win ratio
10/ Hack - 23 points - 81.8% Win ratio
10/ Alice Kazumi - 23 points - 79.2% Win ratio
10/ Tricking - 23 points - 78.3% Win ratio
10/ Ice Tea - 23 points - 77.3% Win ratio

5th seed breaking: Stax wins by Win ratio. Advantage and Rodriblutar have a "true" tie, but they decided to save their ressources instead of fighting for the seed. Advantage will be the 6th seed equivalent.
8th seed breaking: well, 8th and 9th seed face each other in the first round of playoffs. They'll break the seed at the same time.
10th seed breaking: Sacri' and Hack got respectively the 10th and 11th from their win ratio, following the Smogon Tour precedent. Just like Advantage and Rodriblutar, they did not want to break the "true" tie with a Bo5. Alice Kazumi, Tricking and Ice Tea will face each other in a round robin to determinate who will be the 12th player.

The format will be the following: all the people tying at the last qualified spot will now duke it out in order to get twelve seeded players. From there, four rounds of direct elimination will occur with the top four seeds resting during the first.
Each series will be Bo5 with the lower seed then the highest seed choosing which one of the seven GS tiers (Ubers, UU, RU, NU, PU, LC, Doubles) is excluded. The selection must be done within the first 24 hours. The higher seed also chooses which tier is played first. The remaining games will use the standard "loser picks next" deciding order.

Also as always, if you feel like the god of Internet connection is against you, you can protect yourself by sending your team to any TD present at the time of the battle (to ease recreation).

Identity

I expect many battles to be completed under alts and I expect many battles to be completed on other servers to prevent scouting. These kind of factors are pretty bad for tournament security, and thus I will make this clear: If I hear any whispers of identity theft (battling as someone you are not) or proxy battling (helping someone else battle through pm) I will not be pleased and I will take severe actions.

Scouting

Next, I do not want to hear anything about counterteaming, at all. It is the silliest thing I have ever heard, any battler worth their marbles has more than one team. Do not complain about it. I also don't want to hear about any forceful scouting, whether it be spying on another teams irc channel or following your opponent around on PO. There is a difference between "ipl is known for using stall" and "let me follow ipl around all day to watch all his battles since I am his opponent". I expect a lot of the former and none of the latter.

With that said, I give permission to all battlers to ask any person spectating their battle to leave if they do not want them watching. However, given the fact that this is the big stage, I am sure a lot of people want to watch, so don't be too mean.

Timer Clause

As for taking long between moves, if your opponent asks you to hurry up, please oblige. If you are doing a damage calc for a key turn that is one thing, but prolonging every move is suspicious and annoying. Don't do it. Furthermore, Battle Timeout is a rule for a reason. If you run out of time, you lose, simple as that. It does not matter what your opponent says. Do not battle if you think you will have to leave mid battle, and instead reschedule for a better time. Timing out is still classified as a loss, unless the reason for timing out is a disconnection. If there is any suspicion that a disconnect was carried out deliberately to take advantage of this rule in any way, we reserve the right to exercise a harsh punishment.

Disconnections

If a player disconnects and either player contends that they could still win, the optimal solution is to recreate the exact situation the disconnection occurred at during the battle. If it is agreed between players that this is not feasible due to unreasonable battle length, highly improbable circumstances, or some other reason, the player who did not disconnect may choose to rematch with either the same teams or (the option to use) new teams. Timing out is still classified as a loss, unless the reason for timing out is a disconnection. If there is any suspicion that a disconnect was carried out deliberately to take advantage of this rule in any way, we reserve the right to exercise a harsh punishment. Do not do it.

I know that was a lot to read, but it is all necessary for me to have posted here so everyone can see it in the case of a dispute. I don't want any confusion or any problems.

Lemme give this prediction thingy a shot I guess

Tiebreaker:

Alice Kazumi VS Tricking
Alice Kazumi VS Ice Tea
Tricking VS Ice Tea

Tricking is the better player out of the 3 IMO, but it just wouldn't feel right for me not to root for my brother ict in a situation like this

Round 1:

Stax VS Ice Tea - Haven't actually seen much from Stax aside from his Doubles Seasonal and Doubles Open runs, but he's gonna have a rough time getting to play the tiers he excels at in playoffs. With that said, all of the people in the tiebreaker seem more versatile than him as far as slam tiers go, so I'm predicting whoever gets the 12th seed to win this

Advantage VS Hack - Hack is a fucking monster, but Advantage wins in a BO5 as long as he's not stupid enough to let Hack play his best tier

Rodriblutar VS Sacri' - X lol

.CarloO VS Stallion - Stallion has experience and Italian roots, but honestly speaking, Carloo is an underdog and I'm expecting him to do well if he gets past Stallion this round. This is by far the hardest set to predict, and it could swing either way really

With that said, great job on making it this far y'all. Ride the big waves of Smogon Grand Slam for me!
