[OVERVIEW]

Seismitoad is one of the premier Water-types in the tier thanks to its good defensive typing and its ability Water Absorb, giving it resistances to common attacking types like Fire and Rock as well as immunities to Water- and Electric-type moves. This is complemented well by Seismitoad's decent overall bulk and support movepool, which let it serve as one of the tier's most reliable Stealth Rock users. However, Seismitoad comes with its own flaws, as its typing gives it a 4x weakness to Grass-type moves, making it struggle against common offensive Pokemon like Sceptile and Rotom-C. Furthermore, a lack of reliable recovery makes Seismitoad somewhat easy to wear down and overwhelm, giving it competition with other Water-types like Slowbro, Jellicent, and Slowking. Seismitoad is also held back by its mediocre Speed and is somewhat passive.

Moves
========
Seismitoad's bulk and typing allow it to set up Stealth Rock reliably, and the entry hazard is also necessary on every team. Scald is Seismitoad's primary STAB attack due to its good coverage as well as its chance to burn, which can cripple common switch-ins such as Virizion and Golbat. Earth Power is Seismitoad's other STAB move, which is primarily to hit Poison-types like Qwilfish, Garbodor, and Toxicroak. Toxic is usually run in the last slot in order to cripple defensive Pokemon like Slowbro, Vaporeon, Braviary, and Uxie. However, Knock Off is also an option to cripple the aformentioned Pokemon along with Pokemon reliant on their item like Sceptile and Golbat. Protect can be used to scout moves from Pokemon holding a Choice item, like Sceptile, Rotom-C, and Sawk, while also providing a free turn of recovery from Leftovers.

Set Details
========
As Seismitoad typically functions as a physical tank, maximize its HP and Defense EVs and run a Bold nature so that it can take hits from Pokemon like Sneasel reliably. Seismitoad runs Leftovers as its item for passive recovery after each turn. Water Absorb is used as its ability to give it an immunity to Water-type attacks, making it a solid answer to Pokemon like Slowbro and Lanturn.

Usage Tips
========

Seismitoad should be setting up Stealth Rock early-game if possible, as well as against Pokemon that it forces out like Rhydon, Steelix, Piloswine, Qwilfish, and Toxicroak. It should be switched in on some of the aforementioned Pokemon as well as threats like Emboar, Slowbro, and Slowking. While it can check Pokemon like Emboar and Typhlosion, it should be wary of Grass-type coverage moves that can OHKO Seismitoad. If Stealth Rock has already been set up, using any of Scald, Toxic, or Knock Off is worthwhile to cripple common switch-ins. Seismitoad gets worn down heavily by status and having its item removed by Knock Off, so it should be wary of both.

Team Options
========

Seismitoad is highly susceptible to Grass-type moves, so Pokemon that can switch into them such as Golbat, Xatu, Braviary, Vileplume, Emboar, and Garbodor are good partners. Golbat and Xatu in particular can switch in on Toxic and deter entry hazards for Seismitoad, while they also appreciates Seismitoad's ability to switch in on Electric- and Rock-type attacks. Pokemon that benefit from the chip damage provided by Stealth Rock, such as Virizion, Hitmonlee, and Sneasel, mesh well with it. Aromatisse and Granbull work well with Seismitoad, as they can tank Knock Off easily and heal status for Seismitoad, both of which trouble it heavily. Other Pokemon, such as Delphox, Emboar, Klinklang, and Magmortar, that can take advantage of Grass-types pair nicely with Seismitoad, as they can take care of Grass-types and can switch into moves like Freeze-Dry that threaten it, while Seismitoad can also set up Stealth Rock for them and check Water- and Rock-types. Klinklang in particular appreciates Seismitoad's ability to deal with Steelix, and it can set up on the Grass- and Ice-type Pokemon that threaten Seismitoad. As Seismitoad can get worn down through repeated hits and hazards, methods of healing it like Wish variants of Audino, the aforementioned Aromatisse, and Healing Wish variants of Mesprit are appreciated by it. Cryogonal is a good partner for Seismitoad, since it can check Grass-types, switch into Freeze-Dry, and also clear hazards that wear Seismitoad down.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Seismitoad can use a Substitute + Toxic set to serve as a stallbreaker that can take advantage of Pokemon like Slowbro and Vaporeon. However, a more offensive variant of Seismitoad with Stealth Rock, Hydro Pump, Earth Power, and Sludge Wave alongside maximum Special Attack and Speed investment and a Timid nature can be used to take advantage of its decent offenses and movepool, letting it lure common switch-ins like Xatu and take them out. However, it makes Seismitoad noticeably less bulky, making it harder for it to tank hits. An offensive set with Swift Swim and Rain Dance can be used in conjunction with Waterium Z to make a potent late-game cleaner, but it doesn't handle bulky Pokemon like Slowbro and Slowking any better than the defensive set does, and the limited turns of rain makes it hard to use. A set with Normalium Z and Refresh gives Seismitoad a one-time full recovery move and can cure status conditions. Choice Specs can be used to complement Seismitoad's decent offensive typing in order to make it a strong wallbreaker, but it finds itself outclassed by other Pokemon that are stronger and have better coverage, and fitting it on a team is awkward given its typing.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Grass-types**: Whimsicott, Sceptile, Virizion, Rotom-C, and Lilligant all resist both of Seismitoad's STAB attacks and threaten it with their 4x super effective STAB moves, although they must be wary of being crippled by Toxic or Knock Off. Vileplume is also a great answer despite not being resistant to Earth Power, as it takes little damage from it and is immune to Toxic as well.

**Ice-types**: Pokemon like Cryogonal and Vanilluxe can take on Seismitoad due to their access to Freeze-Dry, which hits Seismitoad for 4x super effective damage. Cryogonal in particular can switch into Seismitoad with little worry and can clear the hazards that Seismitoad sets up.

**Wallbreakers**: While the latter can't switch in reliably, Pokemon like Vikavolt, Guzzlord, and Delphox can all OHKO Seismitoad with their strong attacks.

**Status**: Seismitoad's longevity is severely lessened by status, so Pokemon with Toxic such as Slowbro and Golbat are nuisances for it.

Yo, its very much worth it to mention protect on the defensive set, as most of Seis's issues are choiced (Rotom-Cut/Sceptile), and having protect really eases prediction against them. Also, the chance to stall for Toxic/Lefties recovery can really make it easier to keep yourself healthier.

Also, sub-toxic at least deserves a mention, as that set turn seis into a fearsome balance breaker

Judging from SubToxic Seismitoad's nature and the move's targets, I'm going to assume you meant Earth Power and not Earthquake.

But at the same time you listed Scald as Toad's strongest move against Steelix, while I'm sitting here baffled as to why you would want Earthquake over Earth Power in the first place.

Agreed
Maybe you could mention why you put earthquake over earth power on the second set, since the first one doesn't have investment either and still uses earth power. I actually don't know why you should use earthquake too , because first it forces you to run a relaxed nature which lowers your speed, and second most of the pokemon targeted by the ground move you mentionned are hit harder by earth power even with the power difference (drapion, qwilfish, garbodor), and finally it's weakened by intimidate and potential burn.

Shouldn't defensive be the main set? I usually look to Seismitoad as a Stealth Rock user first when building a team, because it fills that role while also not being weak to Water-type moves like a lot of other common Rockers, making it more useful on certain teams. I get that Sub Toxic is good at disrupting things like Mantine was last gen, but it seems like more of a niche set to me. That's just my opinion anyways. You talk about Seismitoad being a good rocker a lot in the Overview without mentioning Sub Toxic at all, so I think this is pretty indicative of which set should go first. If people think Sub Toxic needs to go first, then obviously emphasise this in the Overview instead.

Get rid of Drap + Machamp mentions and add Specs to OO. Looks good, 1/3. (Fwiw I think SubToxic is the better set atm and should stay 1st, but other qc members can weigh in on that)

ay BOUFF is this ready for the second check? fwiw I talked it over with hootie and we think defensive should be the first set. the metagame has shifted a bit and defensive is one of the best emboar switch-ins that balance and bulky offense has. sub tox is cool but it's far from splashable.

I'd give this a quick check through if it's ready so lmk

[OVERVIEW]

  • Seismitoad sets itself apart from other Water-types in the tier thanks to its good defensive typing and its ability in Water Absorb, both of which give it resistances to common attacking types like Fire- and Rock-, as well as immunities in Water- and Electric-type Water Absorb is actually a pretty common ability in nu. maybe just change the wording here a bit.
  • This is coupled well by Seismitoad's decent overall bulk and support movepool, which let it serve as either a Stealth Rock setter or a stallbreaker with the combination of Substitute and Toxic
  • Its typing gives it a 4x weakness to Grass-type moves, making it struggle against common offensive Pokemon like Sceptile and Rotom-Mow
  • A lack of reliable recovery makes Seismitoad somewhat easy to wear down and overwhelm, giving it competition with other Water-types like Slowbro, Jellicent, and Slowking

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

  • Substitute lets Seismitoad avoid status affliction, and lets it scout the opponent's moves.
  • Toxic cripples defensive Pokemon like Slowbro, Jellicent, and Uxie, as well as Pokemon that like to switch into Seismitoad like Virizion and Sceptile.
  • Earth Power is Seismitoad's most consistent form of doing damage, having good coverage in conjunction with Toxic and letting it hit Pokemon like Emboar, Garbodor, Barbaracle, and Qwilfish for super effective damage.
  • Scald is useful for spreading burns to Pokemon like Vileplume, and is also Seismitoad's strongest attack against Rhydon and Piloswine.

Set Details
========

  • The given EV spread maximizes Seismitoad's HP, while also investing in enough Speed to outrun Modest Omastar with max speed. The rest of the EVs are allocated to Defense to increase its physical bulk.
  • Leftovers is necessary so that Seismitoad can get passive recovery from the loss in HP from Substitute.
  • Water Absorb is used so that Slowbro Seis lol can safely switch into Pokemon like Slowbro, Slowking, and Vaporeon.
I'd like it if this set could outspeed Adamant Samurott (224 Speed EV's) so you can potentially burn a z move or just toxic stall it in general

Usage Tips
========

  • Seismitoad should be using Substitute when against Pokemon that it can easily force out, like Steelix or Rhydon. It should also use Substitute if against bulky Water-types like Vaporeon or Slowbro, although it must be sure that they are not running Toxic before switching in.
  • Seismitoad should stay away from status at all costs, as it greatly limits its longevity. Similarly, it should also avoid having its item knocked off, as it won't be able to recover health after setting up a Substitute.
  • After using Substitute, Seismitoad should typically be trying to cripple the opponent with Toxic. If they have a Pokemon, using either of its STAB moves is generally a safe option after they switch in, as they can't reliably threaten Seismitoad barring Vileplume.

Team Options
========

  • Poison-types such as Garbodor, Skuntank, Toxicroak, and Vileplume are great partners for this set, as they can absorb Toxic Spikes and check Grass-types, and appreciate Seismitoad's ability to check Ground-types. Garbodor in particular works well as it can set up Spikes of its own to rack up damage in conjunction with the Toxic that Seismitoad provides, while Skuntank can clear hazards away to prevent Seismitoad from being worn down.
  • Pokemon that can clear hazards such as the aforementioned Skuntank, Hitmonlee, Golbat, and Braviary mesh well with Seismitoad as being worn down by hazards makes it difficult for it to perform reliably.considering we already have a point about how tspikes specifically shits on toad, I don't think this point is necessary. just about every pokemon appreciates hazards off the field so it's a lil redundant
  • Pokemon that appreciate bulky Water-types being worn down such as Emboar, Houndoom, and Kangaskhan make for good partners.
  • As Seismitoad cannot set up Stealth Rock when using this set, other Pokemon that can fill this role like Uxie or Mesprit are appreciated by it.
  • In case Seismitoad falls prey to status, clerics like Aromatisse and Granbull work well with it. They also can switch in reliably to Knock Off, and in Aromatisse's case, can heal up Seismitoad with Wish.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • An offensive set with Swift Swim and Rain Dance can be used in conjunction with Waterium Z to make a potent late game cleaner, but it doesn't handle bulky Pokemon like Slowbro and Slowking any better than the defensive set does, and the limited turns of Rain Dance makes it hard to use
  • A set with Normalium Z and Refresh gives Seismitoad a one-time full recovery move and can cure status
  • Choice Specs can be used to compliment Seismitoad's decent offensive typing in order to make it a strong wallbreaker, but it finds itself outclassed by other Pokemon that are stronger and have better coverage, and fitting it on a team is awkward given its typing.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Grass-type Pokemon**: Sceptile, Virizion, Rotom-Mow, and Lilligant all resist both of Seismitoad's STAB attacks and threaten it with their 4x super effective STAB moves, although they must be wary of being crippled by Toxic or Knock Off. Vileplume is also a great answer despite not being resistant to Earth Power, as it takes little damage from it and is immune to Toxic as well.

When you mention offensive in OO, I think it’s worth mentioning that it can also be used for its ability to outrun and 2HKO standard Xatu, which means that it is capable of functioning as an offensive rocker as opposed to a rain sweeper. Honestly I think that offensive SR is outright better than Rain Dance and probably deserves a bullet at the very top of OO as it is honestly a rlly solid when set when so many people are running Xatu as a plaster for teams which need quick ‘n’ easy hazard control.

i included Martin's set though i don't think it's the most reliable xatu lure, if you wanna call it that, especially since they almost always run gk. if qc wants me to get rid of it im fine with that

Move Sub-Toxic to other options, its just not amazing RN, especially with infiltrator whimsicott on every other team.

Defensive:
Mention Xatu next to golbat in the team options; it fills the same role of resisting grass, deflecting toxic, and providing hazard control.

Cryo is also worth a mention, resisting freeze dry, while taking on grass types (see whims) fairly reliably, and finally doing the nice spinning away tspikes thing that Seis loves.

Mention Klinklang n the partners thingey, as it loves seis taking on steelix and water types for it, while setting up on freeze dry users and grass types. Probably reword the fire types bit to include mons that set up on/resist freeze dry/grass moves.

OOs:
"A more offensive variant of Seismitoad with Stealth Rock can be used to take advantage of its decent Special Attack and movepool, letting it lure common switchins like Xatu, but it makes it noticeably less bulky, making it harder for it to tank hits." - What moves, what evs?

C&Counters:
Whimsicott should be mentioned in the grass types part, as its like #1 mon NU atm.

Imo Cryo should also be here, as it literally doesn't care about anything seis does barring toxic, hits it SE with freeze dry, and gets to spin away all its hard work setting rocks.

Mention Guzzlord over Typhlosion, as it actually can switch in, and literally is healed by Scald. Though would need to remove the part about super effective coverage.

As Seismitoad typically functions as a physical tank, it maximizes its HP and Defense EVs and runs a Bold nature so that it can take hits from Pokemon like Sneasel reliably. Seismitoad runs Leftovers as its item for passive recovery after each turn. Water Absorb is used as its ability to give it an immunity to Water-type attacks, making it a solid answer to Pokemon like Slowbro and Lanturn.

Usage Tips
========

Seismitoad should be setting up Stealth Rock early-game if possible, as well as when against Pokemon that it forces out like Rhydon, Steelix, Piloswine, Qwilfish, and Toxicroak. It should be switched in on some of the aforementioned Pokemon as well as Pokemon threats (repetition) like Emboar, Slowbro, and Slowking.

========

Seismitoad is highly susceptible to Grass-type moves Pokemon, so Pokemon that can switch into them such as Golbat, Xatu, Braviary, Vileplume, Emboar, and Garbodor are good partners. Golbat and Xatu in particular can switch in on Toxic and deter entry hazards for Seismitoad, while they also appreciates Seismitoad's ability to switch in on Electric- and Rock-type attacks. Pokemon that benefit from the chip damage provided by Stealth Rock, such as Virizion, Hitmonlee, and Sneasel, (AC) mesh well with it. Aromatisse and Granbull work well with Seismitoad, as they can tank Knock Off easily and clear heal status for Seismitoad, both of which trouble it heavily. Other Pokemon, (AC) such as Delphox, Emboar, Klinklang, and Magmortar, (AC) that can take advantage of Grass-types like Delphox, Emboar, Klinklang, and Magmortar pair nicely with Seismitoad, as they can take care of Grass-types and can switch into moves like Freeze-Dry that threaten it, while Seismitoad can also set up Stealth Rock for them and check Water- and Rock-types.

=============

Seismitoad can use a Substitute + Toxic set of Substitute in conjunction with Toxic to serve as a stallbreaker that can take advantage of Pokemon like Slowbro and Vaporeon. However, a more offensive variant of Seismitoad with Stealth Rock, Hydro Pump, Earth Power, and Sludge Wave alongside maximum Special Attack and Speed investment (maybe also say what nature) can be used to take advantage of its decent offenses and movepool, letting it lure common switch-ins like Xatu and take them out. However, it makes Seismitoad noticeably less bulky, making it harder for it to tank hits. An offensive set with Swift Swim and Rain Dance can be used in conjunction with Waterium Z to make a potent late-game cleaner, but it doesn't handle bulky Pokemon like Slowbro and Slowking any better than the defensive set does, and the limited turns of rain Dance makes it hard to use.

===================

**Grass-types Pokemon**: Whimsicott, Sceptile, Virizion, Rotom-C, and Lilligant all resist both of Seismitoad's STAB attacks and threaten it with their 4x super effective STAB moves, although they must be wary of being crippled by Toxic or Knock Off. Vileplume is also a great answer despite not being resistant to Earth Power, as it takes little damage from it and is immune to Toxic as well.

**Ice-types Pokemon**: Pokemon like Cryogonal and Vanilluxe can take on Seismitoad due to their access to Freeze-Dry, which hits Seismitoad for 4x super effective damage. Cryogonal in particular can switch into Seismitoad with little worry and can clear the hazards that Seismitoad sets up.

**Wallbreakers**: While the last latter can't switch in reliably, Pokemon like Vikavolt, Guzzlord, and Delphox can all OHKO Seismitoad with their strong attacks.

**Status**: Seismitoad's longevity is severely lessened by status, so Pokemon with Toxic such as Slowbro and Golbat are nuisances for it.
