Primal Groudon marches into the Sun and Moon Ubers metagame as one of the most important threats once more due to the numerous positive traits it possesses making it incredibly easy to fit into a team. Firstly, its Ground / Fire typing grants is a great offensive and defensive presence, due to the former trait enabling it to break through the majority of walls in the metagame thanks to the great neutral coverage its STAB moves offer alone, while the ladder grants it with only one weakness when factoring the harsh sunlight from its ability Desolate Land and resistances to common offensive types such as Fairy and Fire. These qualities let it act as a blanket check to several popular threats like Xerneas, Ho-Oh, and Primal Kyogre. Primal Groudon also possesses the second highest Base Stat Total in the Ubers environment alongside its counterpart Primal Kyogre, meaning that it pertains incredible offensive and defensive stats, which aids Primal Groudon in performing numerous roles.

Groudon @ Red Orb
Ability: Drought
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Precipice Blades
- Roar
- Lava Plume / Toxic / Rock Slide

Primal Groudon is one of the most reliable Stealth Rock setters in the metagame due to it being able to force out many threats thanks to its incredible offensive potential. Precipice Blades is the source of its incredible power, as even though it is not investing in its Attack, Primal Groudon is still able to threaten out walls such as Mega Sableye, Arceus-Fairy, and other Primal Groudon. Roar is used to force out setup sweepers such as Xerneas, Mega Salamence, and Arceus that can otherwise use Primal Groudon as setup fodder. Lava Plume is a great secondary STAB option that allows Primal Groudon to break through defensive walls such as Ferrothorn and Celesteela while also possessing a high chance to cripple physical attackers as well. Toxic can be used alternatively to cripple common switch-ins like Arceus-Water, Giratina-O, and Arceus-Ground. Alternatively, Rock Slide can be used as a coverage option to lure in other checks such as Ho-Oh and Rayquaza instead. The EVs have been fully invested in HP and Special Defense to turn Primal Groudon into a reliable specially defensive pivot that is able to check a variety of threats such as Xerneas and Primal Kyogre.

Groudon @ Red Orb
Ability: Drought
EVs: 168 HP / 240 Atk / 36 SpD / 64 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Rock Polish
- Precipice Blades
- Swords Dance / Dragon Claw
- Stone Edge / Fire Punch

Taking a more offensive approach, Primal Groudon can opt to run a Rock Polish set that can outspeed the entire unboosted metagame bar Deoxys-S after one boost. This effectively lets Primal Groudon threaten more offensive teams thanks to its great natural power, which allows it to OHKO most common offensive threats with its Ground + Rock-type coverage alone. Swords Dance is run to further amplify Primal Groudon's wallbreaking capabilities and allows it to pose more of a threat against more defensive teams. Coverage options such as Dragon Claw and Fire Punch can also be used instead to target specific checks such as Giratina-O, Celesteela, and Zygarde-C. The mentioned EV spread enables Primal Groudon to find much more setup opportunities due to it investing in its HP stat, while still letting it incredibly hard. This Primal Groudon set is so threatening due to it snowballing quite easily once it is given a chance to set up even once, applying incredible amounts of pressure on the opposing team as they try to find a means to stop Primal Groudon from sweeping.

With all these positive attributes in mind, it can be quite difficult to decipher any weaknesses that Primal Groudon may possess. However, a weakness to a common offensive type in Ground leaves Primal Groudon to susceptible to offensive threats that carry coverage moves like Earthquake. Primal Groudon can also be stopped by the many checks to it that are commonly found on a majority of teams thanks to its omnipresence, with the most prominent examples being Arceus-Water, Zygarde-C, Giratina-O, and Celesteela if it lacks Fire-type coverage. Primal Groudon also lacks any means of reliable recovery, meaning that it can be worn down relatively easily through status moves and frequent pivoting into hazards without proper support from its teammate. Its Speed tier also prevents it from outspeeding other common threats such as Lunala, Yveltal, Mega Salamence, and Mega Gengar without a boost from Rock Polish, meaning that it can also be checked offensively as well.

Nevertheless, Primal Groudon remains to be the undisputed best Pokemon in the format, and is a solid pick on practically any Ubers team. Go see for yourselves!

oh right i didnt see this enter qc stage

I'd be hesitant to note the speed creep part at the end of the first set. Sure, there are many that do it but advocating for it is a lost cause because its a complete guessing game. Hitting other Primal Groudon is risky unless you know its attack investment - Adamant sets have a chance to OHKO you and will probably move first because they can afford Speed. Specially defensive sets should avoid blade trades unless absolutely necessary in a battle.

The set descriptions are fine and I'm ok with these 2 sets being the main ones - it covers the offensive and defensive aspects of the mon pretty well. 2 sets is probably necessary for a mon like Primal Groudon.

Noting "mons that carry Earthquake as coverage" as the main thing to beat Primal Groudon with is odd, Arceus-Ground or Water can be decent stops to most sets. Zygarde, Lugia, and Giratina-A/O are also defensive answers. Celesteela, Skarmory and even Bronzong are checks to sets lacking Fire-type coverage. It's pretty vulnerable to Toxic and any chip damage on it will stick. Offensively, it can be checked by Mega Salamence, Yveltal, and Rayquaza. The way its portrayed as some impossible to stop behemoth only stopped by offensive mons running Ground-type coverage isn't exactly accurate. I'd rework this part.

I'll stamp after the changes.
