New Abilities

Berserk: Increases the Pokémon's Special Attack by one stage when HP reaches 50%.
Comatose: The Pokémon can only be affected by the Sleep status condition.
Corrosion: Allows the Pokémon to inflict the Poison status on Steel or Poison-type Pokémon.
Dancer: If another Pokémon in the field uses a dancing move, then the Pokémon uses the same move immediately afterward.
Dazzling: Prevents moves with an increased Speed Priority from hitting.
Disguise: Allows the Pokémon to escape damage from an enemy’s attack just one time.
Electric Surge: Activates Electric Terrain when being sent out.
Fluffy: Halves the damage taken from attacks that make direct contact, but in return it also doubles the damage taken from Fire-type moves.
Full Metal Body: The Pokémon’s stats will not be lowered by the effects of an opponent’s moves or Ability.
Innards Out: Inflicts the same damage taken on the opponent if the Pokémon faints.
Power Construct: Changes Zygarde's form to Complete Forme when its HP is less than 50%.
Shadow Shield: The Pokémon will take less damage from an attack that lands when the Pokémon has full HP.
Soul Heart: Raises the Special Attack by one stage when a Pokémon on the field is knocked out.
Stakeout: Deals twice the normal damage if the opponent just switched into battle.
Stamina: Increases the Pokémon's Defense by one stage when it's hit by an attack.
Surge Surfer: Doubles this Pokémon's Speed in Electric Terrain.
Triage: Makes restorative moves gain the highest priority.
Wimp Out: When this Pokémon's HP drops below half in battle, it will run away or swap out for another Pokémon.

Z-Moves: Incredibly powerful moves that can only be used once per battle. Takes up an item slot (Z-Crystal) and requires the Pokemon to know a move of the same type.

Electric - Gigavolt Havoc
Fire - Inferno Overdrive
Grass - Bloom Doom
Normal - Hyper Sprint Attack
Water - Hydro Vortex

PLEASE LIMIT YOURSELF TO "How will the new Pokemon and moves affect the Monotype meta?"

Unless there's information I don't know about yet, I highly doubt Bewear is getting Mach Punch. Pangoro and Ursaring don't have it, so Bewear getting it would be strange.

Fairy for top tier in 7g

Getting many new Pokemons, very cool offensive double types and broken Abilities. Fairy will move to "offensive type" imo, Magearna is actually the best offensive mon Fairy can have, Mimikyu will be here as a Support, if Alolan Ninetales keeps his 100 BS in Spe it will helps Ground and Grass matchup. But i don't see Tapu Koko being used in Fairy, his ability is kinda useless and Electric don't bring a important coverage for Fairy. The next thing Fairy needs is a Fairy/Fighting or Fairy/Fire to allow it to beat steel, which is fairy's hardest matchup obv.

Electric could get an interesting buff, pairing Tapu Koko with Alolan Raichu. Also, with access to more coverage in (hopefully) a better Fairy mon and access to Psychic STAB if Mega Venu has you down, I could definitely see some interesting builds and an increase in usage.

Normal teams look like they could become pretty offensive in Gen 7. Bewear, Gumshoos, and Drampa are all looking like serious offensive threats. If Pikipek's final evo is Normal and can make good use of Skill Link, it would add yet another scary Normal type to the lineup.

Fairy looks strong this gen, looking at Mimikyu and Magearna and their roles in singles and doubles respectively. And if Comfey's cleric moves get priority as well with Triage, it could replace Togekiss and Clefable as a reliable cleric.

Bruxish the ultimate mega medicham counter with dazzling
lol jokes aside, i'm really interested to see an ability like dazzling (stops priority moves from hitting) being used in a competitive way.
Hopefully bruxish's stats arent as bad as it's design

So Palossand (the sandcastle) gets 'Water Compaction', which raises its defense when hit by a water-type move. Looks like Ground gets another water absorber. nvm

On another note, Fighting gains a new physical attacker in Crabrawler with no additional typing or any ability that sets it apart from other physical Fighting types

To elaborate on this, here is the reveal video. Crabrawler has iron fist/hyper cutter and looks like it's a stage 1, so maybe it'll get additional water typing with an evolution. With palossand, it doesnt look like water compaction absorbs, because in the video it looked like it took damage from the attack and then boosted its defense.

im triggered that one of the best pokemon that was revealed isnt on the OP list

jokes aside x2 , why isnt bewear fairy/fighting. That pink color scheme just screams fairy to me, but w/e.
As for ice, even tho ninetails is aesthetically bae, it's typing was never asked for. And for sandslash, even tho now theres another rapid spinner, i dont think it will be sed over avalugg because of its 4x weakness to fire and fighting. So no ice buff.

Maybe Hail teams will become the optimal ice team comp (if there is an optimal ice team).

Seo.

Nice guys always finish last...
Ya I agree with Hammy z moves would be dumb in competitive and I really hope it doesn't get implemented in the simulator

They'll actually be called Zarel moves and will require you to physically do the dance moves in front of your webcam.

E: If Z moves are implemented and aren't banned/suspected, I wonder how they'll work beyond their "One and done," deal. Maybe they'll have effects, can crit, ignore type immunities, etc.

Just saw that crabrawler is a coconut crab, and iirc theyre land crabs, so maybe just the fighting type possibly. Agree with u on it being stage 1 tho.

The more you know
Also, if that's the case, it they could go in another direction w/ fight/ground or even fight/grass. I'm actually excited to see this one's evo

I've been after a Fighting/Ground mon for years, but I don't see it as the what that Crabrawler will go. My bet would be on Grass for the Secondary, unless Crabrawler is fast af. Then I want it to be Ground..

Well, I've been modding the Sun and Moon room for a long time now and we have a lot of discussions about these Pokemon.

  • Bewear - a good Normal- and Fighting-type without needing to Mega Evolve.
  • I assume it might get Knock Off.
  • Unfortunately, pretty outclassed by Mega Lopunny on Normal thanks to Scrappy.
  • Uhhhh...Fluffy....I really don't like the ability. I'd prefer for it to be more special-orientated. I'd say, this Pokemon is going to hit like a truck and have decent speed. Should have just given it Fur Coat if that was the case.
  • Klutz, practically useless. I assume it might get Trick then? Could be useful in punishing defensive Pokemon with a Choice item.
  • I guess it'll come off as useful on Monothreat Normal. Not Monothreat Fighting though. You'll be asking your opponent to tear the fluff off this creature.

  • Drampa - it looks to be pretty slow and bulky.
  • I'm kind of glad that Normal is also getting a Dragon-type.
  • Drampa makes me think of Play-Doh (I think that's how you spell it?) when I was younger or my friend who made this lizard out of clay in ceramics class.
  • I really want to know if Berserk can activate more than once and if it can, might be pretty good for a RestTalk set or...I hope it gets some type of recovery move like...Recover or Roost to utilize that ability. Would be a waste. As for Sap Sipper, I guess it would be useful but then again, Mega Pidgeot would pretty much sweep through the majority of Grass-types besides Cradily.

Gumshoos -
  • I don't really know what to think about it (other than I really am annoyed by the Donald Trump meme from it).
  • It kind of makes me think of Stoutland.
  • Stakeout is a wonderful ability. I like it and glad that they made an ability to punish Pokemon that tries to switch-in.
  • However, I'm not sure how useful Gumshoos would be to Normal competitively.
  • Might be more useful on Hyper Offensive Normal.
  • Strong Jaw seems to be okay on it. Makes me think it'll get all the elemental fangs along with Crunch and possibly a new biting move.
  • Might seem like a frail Pokemon.
  • Overall, I don't think it'll really help Normal as much as we think it would.

Magearna -
  • Sigh....I hope from the trailer that Pangoro was Choice Scarf or something because if it isn't, Magearna is going to be pretty slow and just as fast as regular Diancie. E
  • ven from its name, the Pokemon might get Shift Gear + Gear Grind, lucky it. I don't know why I thought it was some sort of evolution to Klingklang haha.
  • Also, I'm going to prefer to use Moonblast on it instead of Fleur Cannon (if it learns it because you know, Togekiss doesn't know the move). Fleur Cannon acts like Draco Meteor, Leaf Storm, Overheat, Psycho Boost, etc. Won't combine well with its ability Soul Heart. Moonblast is the way to go.
  • Dark-types would be even in more trouble against Steel-types. It'll also find its way on the team because Fighting. When playing against Fighting-types you'd have to be smart and play correctly. I have a bunch of close games against that type and I think Magearna would help cushion the matchup somewhat.
  • I suppose that it'll help Fairy against Steel? I think it will just a bit.

Mimikyu -
  • I'm pretty scared it won't be as great as we think.
  • I do like its ability Disguise. Acts as a free automatic Substitute! My question would be whether or not the ability resets after switching back in. That would be really awesome and it'll get a free hit every time.
  • It's nice that it'll give Ghost-types a little bit of a fighting chance against Dark-types but I still think they'll struggle. At least Ghost gets a stronger matchup against Dragon- and Fighting-types.
  • I guess I got my wish for a Ghost / Fairy Pokemon. I'm assuming it might get support moves such as Will-O-Wisp.
  • Very nervous how it'll be competitively.
  • Many of these Pikachu clones or knock offs of Pikachu tend to not be that good and I'm worried about Mimikyu's stats.

Comfey, Comfey, Comfey...
  • How am I supposed to think of you other than a Lei that's only useful as a fashion or decoration in Hawaii?
  • I actually thought before its typing we were going to get a Fairy- and Grass-type. Damn you GameFreak, you tricked me again (first being Florges) ugh!
  • Just by looking at it along with its ability Triage, I think it might be more of a supporter and Cleric for Fairy-types. I think...that moves such as Heal Bell, Aromatherapy, etc will get a boost in priority as well?
  • In the trailer, it looks like it learns Morning Sun or Synthesis.
  • Probably guess that Sylveon and Florges might outclass it in terms of being a Cleric. I don't want to think it'll be frail either.
  • I would assume that it won't be a tank physically but it will special wise.

Wishiwashi
  • I don't even know what to say about this thing here.
  • They said it forms a school so judging from the context of the sentence, a colony of Wishiwashi merges together to create such a huge beast! Of course Wishiwashi's school forme seems to be more offensive to me. I'm not really sure how to describe this Pokemon tbh.
  • Its ability Schooling, which alters its forme during battle and its health drops at a certain level and reverts back to its regular forme confuses me. At full health it changed forme so I assume that if its drops to about 50% or 25% it'll revert back to its solo forme. We don't really know what level it drops to but this is a thought. Kind of similar to Zygarde in changing to 100%.
  • I'm assuming it could also be powerful both attack and special attack.
  • Competitively, my problem is that Wishiwashi cannot afford to take so much damage. Otherwise, it'll revert to its solo forme and overall be weak and useless.
  • Of course there's a difference in stats among the two.

Bruxish
  • This colorful fish (but so freaking ugly) is rather an interesting one thanks to its ability,
  • Dazzling, which prevents priority moves from working (RIP Talonflame but who cares! It's banned anyway!!!)
  • To me, it looks like one of those Pokemon that doesn't evolve. Who knows, it just might.
  • I knew it was going to be Water / Psychic as soon as it used Psywave.
  • Anyway back to Dazzling, okay it stops priority moves from working on it as a target but does it completely shut down everything that tends to have priority? Yes, I'm referring to Prankster Pokemon like Sableye, Whimsicott, etc. My guess is it just stops attacking priority moves like Extreme Speed, Sucker Punch, etc.
  • Will it do well competitively? I'm not entirely sure. We already have a lot of viable Psychic- and Water-types to use but I'm sure it'll find its place on a team.

Vikavolt
  • I'll just say it now, Vikavolt is so overhyped. "It's definitely going to be BL or OU." Same thing said for Mega Beedrill but it's stuck in UU after it was released or being great in Monotype but it's not used often.
  • I don't think it'll be that high either. At first glance Vikavolt looks to be frail (however, the description did say that it's a fortress, so it's possible it could be bulky physically. Then again many Bug-types don't have a huge base HP stat.).
  • I think it will be but it's going to be fast and it'll hit hard as a special attacker.
  • Of course as being part Electric-type, it'll most likely get the move Volt Switch and grant some excellent momentum for its team, acting as a dedicated lead.
  • Just another Pokemon to tackle Flying- and Water-types, giving Bug more of an edge. B
  • esides Galvantula, Electric has another Bug-type Pokemon to work with against Dark-, Grass-, and Psychic-types.
  • Of course, this Pokemon is going to be weak to Stealth Rock. So it's going to rely on Rapid Spinners such as Armaldo and Forrtress and Defoggers like Zapdos to keep it from taking too much damage.
  • I think Vikavolt will be used fairly often.

Palossand
  • Wowie, I just now realized that Palossand has a shovel on top of its head while I'm posting this.
  • Water Compaction sharply boosts its defense when hit by a water move...how does this work exactly? Many of the viable Water-types in Monotype are special attackers bar Azumarill, Mega Swampert, Mega Gyarados, (eh doesn't matter, a smart player will just KO Palossand with Knock Off or Crunch) which makes the ability less useful to it lol.
  • I'm also thinking that Golurk is going to outclass it as well.
  • Not really much to say on this sandcastle but it's going to have a tough competition.

Salandit

Kind of want to stop for a moment to talk about Salandit. OMG, I love the Fire / Poison typing so much!!! (Wish that Litten's final evolution would get it but whatever).
  • I know that Poison-types have some trouble against Steel even if they're running Nidoking, Nidoqueen, Scolipede, etc.
  • But I think with Salandit, it'll help soften the matchup along with Bug- and Ice-types.
  • The problem with this matchup will be Heatran, as it also has Flash Fire.
  • The only thing that we know Salandit can do to Heatran is poison it with Toxic cause of Corrosion. I do hope that Salandit does get a move that'll check Heatran because if not, that thing is going to completely wall Salandit.
  • No, for the eighth time, its poison attacks such as Sludge Bomb, Sludge Wave, etc will not hit Steel-types and there's no proof upon that.
  • Not sure if you'll be able to poison opposing Poison-types automatically with something such as...Sludge Bomb.
  • Not only will you be having Tentacruel, Dragalge, or even Mega Venusaur trying to come in to take a Fire-type attack either.
  • I do believe that it'll get an evolution no doubt and a bit of a rise in usage on Poison.
  • Also, I think Poison will be used a bit more often now, which I'm glad to see.

Turtonator

As soon as I saw this thing in the trailer, I was like, "What the hell is this thing!? We finally have a Fire / Dragon Pokemon without a need for a Mega Evolution!!!"
  • Anyway, this uh...turtle looking thing just gives Dragon-types a better matchup against Ice-types. However, it'll need to be careful against Mamoswine.
  • It knows Shell Trap and all I have to say is, priority Fire-type Counter anyone?
  • What's not clear about that is whether or not Turtonator has to be faster than the opposing threat or if it can also work at the beginning of the next turn.
  • I do keep thinking it'll get Shell Smash as a move and if it does, that would be really helpful thanks to Shell Armor preventing any critical hits (you know how crappy they tend to happen at the wrong times.

Oricorio

Not really much I can say about these Pokemon.
  • Oricorio Balie and Pom Pom Style won't get much usage or even change the metagame either.
  • Both are still going to be outclassed by Mega Charizard Y and Zapdos, respectively. Probably Oricorio Balie is gonna face competition with Fletch I suppose but both are pretty underrated.
  • Pa'u Style I don't know about this Pokemon due to Psychic having more than enough tools to function effectively.
  • You have Defog Mew, Latios, and Latias on Psychic already.
  • Sensu style, I'm hoping it'll shine on Ghost.
  • Have another Pokemon that could possibly level the playing field against Fighting-types along with Bug- and Grass-types and gives Ghost possibly another entry hazard remover other than eww, Drifblim.
  • I highly doubt that this Pokemon is going to evolve either.

Tapu Koko

Whew! We get a rooster, one that is a terrain summoner with the ability Electric Surge. I'm finally glad that GameFreak decided to play some attention to it because these are pretty underrated and not really competitive (until now). Well, I did use Grassy Terrain on Poison in the past and it turned out okay. My main issue is the opponent recovering health besides me. Please change that horrible effect. Off track here.
  • It's rather nice that Fairy gets another Pokemon with a neutral to Steel-types but I think it'll be used more often on Electric Monotype and it really provides support.
  • Electric moves dealing 50% more damage (it's fine if Zapdos isn't affected by it. It'll still do great anyway).
  • Breloom can't Spore nor can other Pokemon try to put you to sleep with Yawn or whatever.
  • Tapu Koko is definitely a pseudo-legendary (being one of the island guardians why not?).
  • Tapu Koko is really going to assist Electric against Dark-, Fighting-, and especially Dragon-types one of the main types they struggle with other than Ground.
  • I can definitely see Electric rise in usage this upcoming Gen.

Another Pikaclone, O K.
  • Steel-types are known to have great defense so I assume Togedemaru would as well and maybe decent HP stat.
  • I think it'll also have some decent speed and special attack stat as well.
  • I don't really know how useful Iron Barbs is going to be on this thing.
  • This thing is of course going to be outclassed by Magnezone.

It's nice to see that Ice-types are getting a bit more attention. I was expecting Alola Ninetales to be Fire / Flying or Ice / Flying. Even I was still dreaming of it of being Fire / Ghost before they revealed its typing. Maybe then I won't need to paralyze Excadrill or others with Stun Spore from Whimsicott.
  • This much be the gen of the Fairy-types I'm assuming and it'll really help against Ground-types that Fairy struggles with.
  • About 75% of Ice-types are known to be fast so I'm hoping that it'll be pretty quick as well.
  • Snow Cloak eh...I wish it obtained a better ability.
  • Nice that it'll be helping ice a little bit against Dark- and Fighting-types.
  • Of course, this thing will die to Mega Scizor or some type of Bullet Punch from Conk or Mega Medicham.

Alola Sandslash

I was also shocked to see Alola Sandslash as well.
  • However, I'm annoyed it also gets Snow Cloak as well. What is with you GameFreak?
  • I'm still going to say that it'll be pretty slow.
  • I'm assuming it might stay as a physical attacker? Who knows.
  • That Ice / Steel typing leaves it dead to Fire and Fighting.
  • Overall, I think it won't make much of an impact in the metagame (On the bright side it might be able to take a Bullet Punch).

Alola Exeggutor

When I first saw this, my mouth dropped and I felt like crying because this really wasn't something I wanted. But, I understand that because of the picture that was back in the 1990s was shown and it had a picture of Exeggutor with its appearance similar to the one above and I understand its Dragon typing, which comes from a Draco plant that's in Hawaii.
  • That Grass / Dragon typing leaves it very weak to Ice.
  • I'm not really a Dragon or a Grass player but I think it'll be used more on Grass? Only because I believe that Grass-types have a difficult matchup against Dragon.
  • Frisk seems to be a rather terrible ability for it. But I guess it'll help you scout the foe's item.
Other than that, I don't think it'll make a big impact in Monotype.

Alola Marowak

I am seriously in love with this Pokemon. If Litten turns out to be Fire / Fighting, I'm totally dropping all the starters to have this Pokemon as my partner. Amazing design and fan art.
  • Its Fire / Ghost typing is pretty nice; however, it'll be facing some competition from Chandelure.
  • I still think it'll stay as a sufficient physical attacker so on the bright side it doesn't get burned or any of the sort.
  • Lightning Rod seems to be a very good ability for it. At least it's still immune to Electric-type attacks.
  • What worries me is that Alola Marowak might still be pretty slow.
  • My overall opinion, I have no idea how it'll shape Monotype meta.

Not doing Alola Raichu, Mudsdale, and Lurantis.
Got pretty lazy.

Z -Moves. I believe they're a waste in my opinion and I don't plan on using them.
