Project Pokémon Matchmaking (SM Edition) - Current round: Hawlucha (SUBMITTING TAPUS IS BANNED)

Suicune @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 24 SpD / 232 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Protect
- Substitute
- Calm Mind

Suicune, specifically vincune is honestly broken behind veil. It can setup on pokemon like tangrowth and tapu koko to +6 and just sweep a team. After multiple calm mind boosts it wont be taking anything from supereffective hits, along with a reasonable speed tier to back it up.

Yea all of these bar mawile win 'cause it's just abt setup 'mons rlly. Sorry for taking so long to update this btw; been thinking abt a lot of stuff recently and it slipped my mind.

Round 24: Mimikyu

Mimikyu @ Life Orb
Ability: Disguise
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Shadow Claw
- Play Rough
- Shadow Sneak

Reserving Smeargle

Smeargle @ Focus Sash
Ability: Own Tempo
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Sticky Web
- Spore
- Magic Coat

Mimikyu appreciates the sr and webs from smeargle giving Mimikyu the ability to outspeed mons like ninja, lop, etc. Magic Coat is for mons like tran dat like to taunt.

Magnezone

Magnezone @ Shed Shell
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 140 HP / 192 SpA / 176 Spe
Modest Nature
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power Fire
- Thunderbolt
- Flash Cannon

Magnezone can trap bulky Steel-types such as Mega Scizor, Ferrothorn and Skarmory, which otherwise are really difficult to get past for Mimikyu.
A slow Volt Switch is always appreciated in order to switch-in Mimikyu without breaking Disguise.

Shed Shell is here to avoid being trapped once by Dugtrio, which may lead you to waste its Z-boosted Eartquake.

The EVs spread is stolen from the AV set.

Landorus-Therian @ Soft Sand
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 168 HP / 252 Atk / 88 Spe
Adamant Nature

- Smack Down
- Swords Dance

OR
Landorus-Therian @ Flyinium Z
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Fly
- Gravity
- Swords Dance

Landorus-T acts as the primary breaker against bulkier teams (such as Stall). Soft Sand and Adamant Nature with max Atk allows Landorus to 2HKO Unaware Clefable while Smack Down allows Landorus-T to remove Skarmory / Celesteela's Ground immunity. Substitute is used to guard against Status and pressure fat teams further. This support is important for Mimikyu who doesn't possess enough firepower to break Physically Defensive mons. Alternatively, Landorus-T can run a Z-move set to break through walls without setting up a Substitute. Supersonic Skystrike allows Landorus-T to OHKO Unaware Clefable, Phy Def Tangrowth and opposing Lando-T. Max Spe also allows Landorus to outrun Timid Magearna and Heatran which may be important.

OK so I'm updating this now. Leo is now co-hosting this with me so yeah you can expect this thread to actually get moving properly now, including the archive update. Not gonna do a winner this week due to there not being enough subs rlly.

Round 25: Mega Diancie

Diancie @ Diancite
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 8 Atk / 248 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Diamond Storm
- Moonblast
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Nature Power / Earth Power / Stealth Rock

I'll also be allowing you to sub partners for max Attack variants or whatever else if you want; idrc about specifics like that, point is that it's a somewhat new mon so it seems like a good time to do it. Just make sure to say if you use a different move in the fourth slot or whatever.

Tapu Koko

Tapu Koko @ Electrium Z
Ability: Electric Surge
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Wild Charge
- Hidden Power Ice/Brave Bird
- Taunt/Brave Bird
- U-turn

Koko+Diancie is a really well-known core, and the only real reason Diancie runs Nature Power. Gigavolt Havoc fries Chansey and AV Gear, two of the best Diancie counters. Koko also checks Celesteela and Toxapex which can also deal with Diancie. As a bonus, it even has U-turn to bring in Diancie safely!
But do bring Grass checks: Brave Bird on its own isn't enough. Volcarona is a nice partner imo.

Latias @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psyshock
- Draco Meteor
- Healing Wish
- filler

The main thing Latias can offer Mega Diancie is Healing Wish, which completely heals it if Mega Diancie has been chipped from random attacks. Outside of this, Latias can wear down Pokemon like Heatran and also provides Grass-, Water-, and Ground resists, which is great for switching in Latias on common Mega Diancie checks like Scarf Keldeo, Landorus-T, and Tangrowth.

Tapu Lele @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Moonblast
- Hidden Power Fire
- Focus Blast

Tapu Lele helps the Koko + Diancie core by shutting down priority attacks from the likes of Ash-Greninja and Mega Scizor while also providing some form of Speed control for the team. Tapu Lele's presence also pressures the opponent to go to Celesteela and Chansey, which can be exploited by Tapu Koko. Tapu Lele provides Psychic Terrain to allow NP Diancie to beat Mega Venusaur if necessary. FB allows Lele to heavily dent Heatran which is very nice since Diancie can't OHKO it from full without Earth Power.

Gastrodon-East @ Leftovers
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Earthquake
- Scald
- Curse
- Recover

This is an excellent mega diancie partner as its able to eat the likes of ash greninja, av mage, mega scizor and dugtrio which all say fuck you to diancies face, u do make urself weaker to grass types so something like bulu can pair very well with diancie + gastro.

Me and Leo have now compiled the new archive, and instead of archiving winners we are following a more subjective archiving system, which we feel is more useful from a quality assurance point of view. Please note that this does not include the ongoing week, which will be read over when we get around to updating the thread next. The following posts have been archived:

Flyinium-Z Salamence Partner: Magearna by Recreant
Mamoswine Partner: Magnezone by Colonel M
Mamoswine Partner: Zapdos by HotFuzzBall
Mamoswine Partner: Landorus-T by Martin
Focus Sash Dugtrio Partner: Celesteela by Colonel M
Alomomola Partner: Heatran by Martin
Quiver Dance Pheromosa Partner: Ash Greninja by Futatsuiwa of Sado
Defog Mega Scizor Partner: Toxapex by Martin
Choice Band Zygarde Partner: Volcarona by Futatsuiwa of Sado
Alolan Ninetales Partner: Mega Tyranitar by Martin

I am aware that a large number of these posts are mine. To ensure that bias was minimised when choosing posts for the archive, I didn't let my own opinions of my own posts have any influence over the decision to archive them; they were chosen entirely at Leo's discretion, and if he didn't think it was 100% archive worthy (to a higher degree of strictness than other posts) it didn't get archived. We spent around four hours reading over every post in the thread over the course of three sessions, wherein we read over each post carefully, talked about our thoughts/key issues with each one and decided which ones we felt displayed a very high overall quality, factoring in choice of set, relevance of info included in description, ratio of fluff:content, and overall degree of (important) detail. Ensure you read over the posts we have archived if you are looking to improve your chances of having one of your posts archived in the future, and feel free to PM me and Leo if you think any of the posts which didn't get archived should be added so that we can explain why you are wrong.

Actually I'm just corrupt and bias jej.

^I'd never type the present tense of "bias" in this context or type "jej;" show urself moderator (probably Gary tbh)!

No post from the Mega Diancie week is being archived.

Round 26: Sash Greninja

Greninja @ Focus Sash
Ability: Protean
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe OR 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

- Toxic Spikes

reserving zygarde

Zygarde @ Leftovers
Ability: Aura Break
EVs: 192 HP / 136 Atk / 180 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Thousand Arrows
- Substitute
- Protect

Sub DD Tect Zygarde is an amazing abuser of Tspikes(and wouldn't mind spikes either), which dual spike Greninja provides. Greninja's coverage move can be used to hit certain mons Zygarde(or a team) might be weak to- it's a bit hard for Zygarde to immediately crack through Tapu Fini and Clef(Gunk Shot) or Lando-T(Ice Beam). Zygarde also breaks through poison-type absorbers like Pex that might dissuade Greninja from setting up layers.

This EV spread was taken from robopoke 's RMT(to, paraphrasing, 101+ HP subs, outspeed stuff like mlop at +1, investment in attack) but the spread/nature can be customized if you want to outspeed max speed Heatran and/or deal with stuff like uninvested Moonblasts better.

Heatran @ Groundium Z
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Magma Storm
- Earth Power
- Taunt
- Stealth Rock

Heatran gives the team access to Stealth Rock, which along with Greninja's Taunt, allows you to rack up damage with hazards as soon as possible. The beauty of this set is it allows you to prevent Tapu Fini and Mega Scizor from using Defog. Magma Storm also chips away at Mega Venusaur and Toxapex who can absorb Greninja's Toxic Spikes. Heatran's great typing allows it to easily come in against Pokemon that Greninja attracts such as Celesteela and Jirachi while Greninja is a good anti-lead against predicted Offensive Rocks Lando leads. Unfortunately, Heatran is not fast enough to prevent Defog from fast Mews and Mega Latias although it will be able to trap Mew with Magma Storm.

Suicune @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 24 SpD / 232 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Substitute
- Calm Mind
- Protect

Suicune benefits hugely from the Toxic Spikes that Greninja provides because it, in conjunction with Substitute and Protect, allows Suicune to easily outstall a vatiety of Pokemon thanks to the instant poisoning effect of TSpikes. There isn't really that much to say wrt synergy, but Suicune appreciates Tapu Koko leads being surprised by Gunk Shot.

Round 27: SubToxic Heatran

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 212 HP / 44 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Magma Storm
- Substitute
- Toxic
- Earth Power

Arena Trap just got banned, so the most frustrating Pokemon in the meta just got even more frustrating!

Reserving Mega Lopunny.

Lopunny-Mega @ Lopunnite
Ability: Scrappy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Ice Punch
- Power-Up Punch
- High Jump Kick
- Return
In terms of pure synergy, Heatran can deal with Fairy types (Clefable in particular), Psychic types, and bulky grasses, allowing Mega Lop to pick up the pieces.
However, it goes deeper than that. Lopunny has a really great matchup vs offense, which has frailer and faster things, while Heatran rips balance in half. Furthermore, Heatran's Toxic wears down a ton of things like Mew, Zygarde, and Landorus for Lopunny to take out when they are sufficiently weakened.
I like hazard stacking with this core a lot, so Greninja, Ferrothorn, and Clefable are sound options.

reserving tapu bulu

Tapu Bulu @ Rockium Z
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Horn Leech
- Superpower
- Stone Edge

Tran's ability to beat stuff like Tang, Skarm, and Mew, and weakening/trapping mons that would want to come into Heatran like Landorus-T makes Bulu's job a lot easier. Meanwhile, Bulu provides support in directly beating stuff like Zygarde and Fini that would otherwise force Tran out. Grassy Terrain, while situational for whether or not Heatran can abuse it, is amazing to provide additional recovery for Heatran for its Substitutes(and in rare cases, lets it live uninvested Earthquakes like from Defensive Lando-T.)

Both Bulu and Tran generally force out each others' checks, which with ample doubling, can provide one's team an advantage. Rockium Z is more useful than Grassium Z because Tran already beats the mons Grassium Z covers like Mew.

Tapu Koko @ Choice Specs
Ability: Electric Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Dazzling Gleam
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Specs Tapu Koko is a beast right now, as it can OHKO pretty much any neutral target with Specs Thunderbolt and pivot out of its switchins with a strong Volt Switch. SubToxic Heatran is really good at taking advantage of the passive Pokemon Specs Tapu Koko forces in such as Ferrothorn, Tangrowth and Chansey to either get free Subs or fire off Magma Storms. It beats most of the Grass-types that Tapu Koko invites in, which forces them to switch again to continue to check Tapu Koko and thus slowly gets chip damage on them from hazards and Volt Switch. It can also beat Chansey 1v1 with Magma Storm and Toxic, which opens a doorway for Koko to pressure Stall teams lacking Tangrowth.

I'm posting this round because Martin's busy, no winners because we didn't get enough submissions for last week :(

Round 28: LO KB

Kyurem-Black @ Life Orb
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Ice Beam
- Fusion Bolt
- Hidden Power Fire
- Roost / Earth Power

This mon has been everywhere in the last couple of olt rounds and did also see usage during Phase I of the Snake Draft. Its solid bulk and threatening coverage turns it into a menace for Balance, let's see what partners you can come up with for it!

Reserving Mega Scizor (will have this written up tonight most likely)

Mega Scizor

Scizor-Mega @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 68 Atk / 124 Def / 12 SpD / 56 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Roost

-----or-----

Scizor-Mega @ Scizorite
Ability: Light Metal
EVs: 248 HP / 236 Def / 24 Spe
Impish Nature
- Defog
- Roost
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn

Kyub really appreciates Mega Scizor. First of all, it provides u turn support regardless of the set, which can help get kyub in safely. Scizor also happens to lure in things that kyub can break, like Steela, Pex, Zapdos, and Heatran (if epower). Both sets go with kyub very well. SD scizor loves kyubs wallbreaking power, as it helps it significantly with its cleaning ability. Defog scizor can remove hazards for kyub since kyub hates any sort of hazards. Overall, Mega Sciz is an amazing partner for LO KB.

It's been more than 24 hours, so this is fair game.

Tapu Koko @ Choice Specs
Ability: Electric Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Dazzling Gleam
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Ice] / Hidden Power [Fire]

Specs Koko works alongside KyuB extremely well. Kyurem-B benefits from the Electric Terrain that Tapu Koko summons due to it boosting the power of Bolt Strike, allowing it to OHKO analysis Celesteela after SR, to OHKO VinCune without it, and to 2HKO AV Magearna from full health. Furthermore, its ability to pivot around while inviting fat Grass-types like Venusaur and Tangrowth in is a huge boon for Kyurem-B, which can take advantage of the Volt Switch support to create opportunities to fire off free Ice Beams vs them. Tapu Koko benefits from Kyurem-B's ability to surprise Ferrothorn with HP Fire, preventing it from repeatedly switching into it repeatedly if it carries HP Ice. The offense shredder+balance shredder nature of the core makes it just generally very threatening to a wide range of teams.

Mew @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 240 HP / 156 Def / 112 Spe
Timid Nature
- Ice Beam
- Will-O-Wisp
- Soft-Boiled
- Defog

Kyurem-B can't come into the field and wallbreak properly if hazards, especially Stealth Rock, are up because it's vulnerable to all of them and they limit its Life Orb hits. Mew helps patch Kyurem-B's Stealth Rock weakness with its Defog while providing a sturdy Fighting resist that can switch into the likes of Mega Medicham and Mega Lopunny, which threaten Kyurem-B out. Additionally, it can spread status on defensive Pokemon like Toxapex, which makes it easier for Kyurem-B to break through them.

Yeah once again no winners because picking out of three is just... lol. That said, we’re archiving all three posts, so good job Riddikulusness

Round 29: Stanard Spikes Ferrothorn

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SpD
Relaxed / Impish Nature
- Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip / Gyro Ball
- Gyro Ball / Knock Off

Charizard @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Roost / Dragon Dance
- Flare Blitz
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake

Yes, I am aware that Roost+3 Attacks is the set everyone has a boner over atm, but I have slashed in DD because I feel that such sets are the ones which put Ferro’s Spikes support to best use. Spikes help wear away at the opposing team throughout the match, which is helpful for weakening checks like Tapu Fini (do people still use this?), (Mega) Tyranitar etc., as well as just generally putting pressure and damage onto stuff that might need a little chip to be put in range of a +1 hit. Im exchange, Ferrothorn is capable of soft checking stuff like Lamdo-T and Greninja and whatnot which can put Zard X under pressure, and if running Roost on Zard/paired with a HWish user such as Jirachi or Latias, Ferro also benefits from Zard X’s ability to wallbreak ealrly/mid game with its three attacks. Zard X also soft checks Fire-types thanks to its typing, so that’s also kinda nice.
