Pokémon GO

With gyms going down, there'd be no need for potions and revives until gyms were back up. But removing them from the stops without breaking something would probably be hard to do.

To be fair, that's exactly what Niantic wouldn't want to do.

I've spent all of the event catching Pokemon. In addition to giving more EXP (more applicable to you guys who need to level), it also gives stardust for the rework. It also depletes the Poke Ball stock, and we fill our bags with Potions / Revives... just in time for the brand new gyms shortly after so we can use that dust and waste those newly acquired healing items. It's a smart move by Niantic.

I would rather see Poliwrath return to gym viability, Blissey can be beaten by hard hitting things like Overheat Flareon, Solar beam Exeggutor, even Jolteons best moveset can beat it.

Oh good lord....

First, my home is now situated in stop-starving suburban outskirts, yet with a gym nearby and few more. Now I can take items on stops without going so far and keep my daily streaks again, not bad.

Now, for the Raid Boss. This is quite horror. I have been playing game solo due to my social anxiety and had been successful on that (one time, I managed to break 8 organised Blisseys at once without losing, thanks to my raised team). But depending on how they distribute the stats, freaking 22k CP Raid Boss sounds like facing a Mega-Rayquaza with bunch of Poochyenas. Nevermind the timer. I think the era of soloists is really over now, after all the contribution I did for my team and gym's metagame health around my area.
Yeah, I can just snoop into a raid preparation, but....
And I'll have to raise even more specialists now. Time to raise this second wallbreaker....

At least I'm used to gambling with RNG, so I can live with not raiding if I have no time to....
I hope I can also save a lot of Razz. It seems like they use the same berry, so I'll have to really conserve these berries (oh nabbit, I have used a lot in this event alone). And the consequences of raiding is also requiring wisdom and prudence as that means if I read it correctly, all defending Pokemon go home once a raid starts. If defending Pokemon still have the same benefit (coins, dusts), then this could make conflicting playstyle of defending or raiding.
The system itself seems to be debated now. Some people feared it is time to say goodbye to their prestige trainer squads as they no longer serve any purpose here and now trash 'mon literally has no reason to stay in the box, and Pokemon that is outclassed by others of same type serve no use either. Not that I ever used Ninetails for prestige training (wait, I did long time ago), but now I literally have no reason to keep them.
And I hope attacking (not raiding) gyms now gets some tangible benefits too. But I doubt it with now defenders cut down to only 6 Pokemon with species clause, making solo attacks much easier assuming the metagame isn't changed....

Oh, and I see there are even more concerns with spoofers now. Good lord, I hope this won't happen....

I'll have to hope I can get more Vaporeon. Think they might still remain as great generalist with their bulk, so I may need a lot of them in raids. Heh, a Vaporeon specialist like the first of Eevee's Z-Crystal.

Welp, these upcoming updates will be fun even as a solo player. Glad that I have near 2 gyms. But I'm not that hard of a battler anyway for I still really rely on egg hatching. Also, hooray for no more Mama Blissey Armies. Seriously, these happy single ladies need a break and let others somewhat shine. Though I still expect the top 10 to be there for sure, maybe we might find other interesting mons to place. More importantly, I finally have a reason to save up my Nanab berries.

Why? Nanabs are the biggest niche berry of the three we currently have. I mean, it makes highly active moving mons less likely to go erratic. I'm looking at those levitating flying type pokemon, swinubs, and many bug types. In my eyes, still VERY niche. Razz for easier catching? Great for mons with super high CP around 600+ CP. Pinap for more candies? Great for pokemon that you rarely encounter or are valuable species in the wild outside of eggs such as the starters, Dratini, Larvitar, Lapras, Snorlax, Sudowoodo, Skarmory, etc. Praise Arceus that the move tutor mechanic is back, just called TMs for fast and charged. Maybe if you are from Team Valor, this new GYM raid is the biggest motivator. Why this team?

Just basing this on Matthew Patrick's video as to how Team Mystic has the most players in Pokemon Go, in the theory he had using color theory and various topics from psychology and the 16 personality tests, it seems that Team Valor has the most extroverted players versus the other two teams. Simply, even though most gamers are introverts and that all three have both kinds of players, the trainers in red are likely to have gamers that go in gyms like a pack of pyroars due to "most" extrovert gamers having more interpersonal skills with the opposite being more self aware (intrapersonal).

In my case, I had never done a gym quest with anyone other than myself. So, maybe I'm screwed with these new events?

But... our lovely espeon here (PsychicAcademic), I like and respect your ... infatuation with our eevee water fish. As a linguist that looks at the popularity and frequency of words, with how long I had been looking at the growth of this app, "Vaporeon" is definitely one of the most fetishized and, unintentionally, sexualized words in this app (Top 20 wise). Not so much for the character, but dear Arceus the amount of times I encountered that one name is already going off the charts. I get the context but ... I just chuckle at just seeng that reality being a thing.

Consensus between me and my crew is that gyms are incredibly casualized. There is little incentive in being high level now given you can slot whatever you want. I'm not exactly hyped but raids will likely be great later.

Fwiw Pokemon Go Gyms will now function like Ingress Gyms. If so, you don't have to visit a gym to feed a mon. Remember, everyone on your team can feed a Pokemon that's on a gym, and you get in-app notifications whenever a gym of yours is attacked or your mon is losing motivation, so realistically it's not so terrible for soloists (it's only terrible in terms of raids). Coins are also dependent on how long a defender of yours stays in a gym...

So the biggest problem of this system is (seemingly) the huge lack of available slots for players. Spoofers and multi accounters can have 6 accounts and lock out a gym permanently. Just seems like bad news lol

Tickets have gone live for the first ever Pokémon GO Fest. This event is taking place in the Chicago on July 22nd 2017. Tickets for the event have to be purchased through the official Pokémon GO website and cost $20 a piece. It offers an increased wild spawn at Grant Park, implying Heracross will be there. There's also a special in-app medal for participation there, special PokéStops that give special 2km Eggs and special challenges that will give unique rewards.
Because that's the Pokemon every Pokemon GO player has been waiting to get, willing to pay $20 for: Heracross.

Seriously though, for the sake of Pokemon GO players, I hope they hold a surprise raid battle for a Legendary Pokemon.

I hope they'll at least run this update for a while with pseudos as raid bosses in case there are any bugs. Imagine the reaction if there's a Mewtwo raid (like in the initial trailer before release) but some bug caused it to be unable to be caught.

I'm not sure about the whole spoof thing, but for Puzzle and Dragons, they have a separate app in Japan called Puzzle and Dragons Radar that you can link to your account on PAD, and it allows you to collect orbs for dungeons and monsters etc. It checks for spoofing apps on your phone before allowing you to run it, so would that not already be a fix for potential spoofers? Or is it also possible to spoof without an additional app?

Err what? Well... she has been one of the first Pokémon I first knew and loved since little, so that makes sense for me alone. That she is great in GO is just an added bonus and then again it is really difficult in competitive areas with high CP threshold to even find a spot for them. On that matter, I'm hoping years later Sylveon would also be as good.
Also, we are still in Gen2. Wait until Gardevoir? or Lopunny comes.

Well, actually I haven't read what berry will be used for raising motivation. I'm hoping and others has speculated that it'll be any of three berries. This makes a reason to actually keep Nana berry now. I had only used it when I'm down to only few balls to conserve.

More information. Apparently after raid, the Raid Boss Pokemon can only be caught by the provided Premier Ball, and will flee if one ran out of them. This Ball is provided more for trainer with more contribution to the raid. Not known yet if one can keep excess balls for next raid instead of spending all.
One thing for sure for me is that I seriously have to organise my bag....

On defending, Now Pokecoins can only be collected when a 'mon is kicked out. Some people already discuss newer cheats like self-shaving. Oh great, it is also bad news to me unless there are indeed people playing everyday around this desolate mountain (most are concentrated down there in the city, but not here....). I hope they didn't jump into other extreme. Either way, the honeymoon's over. Coins are no longer provided easily by this scene and Free-to-play game seems much less viable, although Stardust seems still obtainable a lot enough with berry feeding. At least I have collected so much coins by strategic placing and discoveries of hidden lands....

And on legendaries, apparently Niantic will reward those who are very active in gym system with password to have a chance to catch them. Well, a reason to keep destroying gyms around with cool musics like Gladion or Frontier leaders.

Oh, and Raid Boss looks bigger. This is probably genius as they look like Totem Bosses in trials.

More information are brought to light. Apparently a single raid happens in an hour and players may participate as many times as possible within that one hour with 5 minutes maximum per battle session. I take back what I said, I can solo them as long as I have enough healing supply.

"With the announcement of Raid Battles and the new battle features, we are staying true on our commitment to ensuring that Pokémon GO continues to be a fun and fair experience for all Trainers. Starting today, Pokémon caught using third-party services that circumvent normal gameplay will appear marked with a slash in the inventory and may not behave as expected. We are humbled by the excitement for all the new features we announced yesterday. This is one small part of our continued commitment to maintaining the integrity of our community and delivering an amazing Pokémon GO experience." -NianticGeorge

So this is new. Going to be upfront and say this is likely to not affect spoofers at all (to those that believe anything is being done to them) but rather bot accounts and users who use login IV Checkers and the like.

The biggest advantage this potentially has is heavily limiting those who buy accounts from sites like Selly or eBay, making it much harder for those who are not manually doing everything in their accounts to invest in the (now watered down) gym meta. Bots that might attack gyms might be very limited.

What does "may not behave as expected" mean? I'm curious. The sadist in me hopes that it's something like the "insufficient badges" thing in the main games where mons fall asleep, self hit, etc., but in practice I hope they're just banned from use.

We don't know what it is at this point in time (botters aren't reporting slashes at all, so it's likely to not be currently enabled). I presume it's something simple like barred from use like you said.

Seems a nearby pokestop to me has been made to a gym. Unfortunately, it also takes the number of stops in the park down to 9 so I have to wait until the gym update til I can spin them for the 10 stop bonus lol

Event helped bump me up to level 31, it's actually crazy how much just catching pokemon does when the bonus is tripled.

It seems the pokemon slashing is lazily implemented (slashed pokemon can be evolved to remove the slash...) but that'll probably be fixed. Either way, it's... a step forward I guess?

If 10 unique stops are swiped within 30 minutes, the 10th unique stop gives at least 6 items... it's not that important, but it's nice, you know?

they really need to fix this.. some gym badges not working, and pokemon with over 3k CP seem to drop like a stone if not fed for even a couple of hours.

if you can power up, try and get as close to 3000 cp as possible but don't go over.

No, just get Pokemon that are viable defenders and have low CP: Lapras, Steelix, Porygon2, Clefable, Nidoqueen, Muk, Venusaur, Bellossom, Umbreon, Slowbro, Slowking, Hypno, etc. There are a ton of options.

I'm also confirming the interaction of legacy movesets with TMs is completely possible. TMs will not roll legacy movesets so you need to have the legacy Pokemon in the inventory. For example:

If you have a Dragon Breath / Dragon Pulse Dragonite in your inventory, and you use a Charged TM on it, you have a chance of having Dragon Breath / Outrage Dragonite which is normally impossible. Similarly, if you were to use a Fast TM on it instead, you have a chance of rolling Dragon Tail / Dragon Pulse on it which is also a new moveset.

There are honestly not that many movesets that come to mind while doing this, but there are some viable options: Dragon Tail / Dragon Claw Dragonite, Dragon Breath / Outrage Dragonite, Charge Beam / Discharge Magneton, Wing Attack / Overheat Charizard, Dragon Breath / Outrage Gyarados, and Ice Shard / Hydro Pump Lapras.

I know my Dragonite Ryuuka will like this. I hope to be able to find Special TM and have chance at getting Outrage.

But firstly... I hope I can solo raids because I'm not good with people and now live in rather suburban areas. I need to know how raids or raid sessions are carried out and how boss HP resets....

I just want to keep breaking gyms until I am enough for legendary pass.

You can prob solo the lower tier raids but tier 4 raids (with stuff like Dragonite, Rhydon, and Tyranitar) really need multiple people or you'll time out. I spent like 100 seconds just smashing a 30K Rhydon with Water Guns, Hydro Pumps, Razor Leafs, and Solarbeams with everyone else and it took forever.

Btw raids are level 35+ and above for now so if you're not that level then you won't get them.

Already Lv36. Also, I recall someone researched fighting raid Tar is like 9 of them stacked. With enough Machamp they might be able to (but have only 2 as of now until I can also reset some of their moves).
EDIT: I still hope, about 25k CP one. But 35k CP one is definitely not to be solo play. I give up. At least I'll do raid on easy ones, I just want excitement and daily contribution.

How long is the time limit again? They say 5 minutes isn't it?

I also heard there are time to heal if player lose, and retry. I expect high DPS mon is in high demand now. Got to level up my Houdin.

I have only heard things though... What I need to know is how the boss HP resets.... And also to read further researches later.

This should be exciting, since Raid Boss are like Totem Pokémon (stat boost, although without SOS) and we're in trial.

How many coins are people getting, if any?

It's very difficult to get coins, at least imo, since it's too populated here for much to last long...
