Metagame ORAS NU Creative / Underrated Sets Thread v2.0 [REPLAYS REQUIRED]

Sawsbuck is actually pretty dope and has good coverage in this meta if you opt for a set without a second boosting move. I've experimented with SD+3 attacks and sub SD. It's stats leave a lot to be desired but it's decent enough to consider considering it can hit most things for SE damage. Speed ties w/ stuff like Haunter&Jynx.

Quagsire @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Toxic
- Recover
- Protect

Are you always afraid your opponent might be carrying HP Grass? Well fear no longer because now you can scout for it with Protect. Protect also has great synergy with Toxic and Leftovers which really makes your Quag a lot more durable and able to stall out more mons. Pair this guy up with Garbodor to beat those Grass-types and set up Toxic Spikes as well so you can spam Protect to your hearts content. It's worth noting you don't need to fear your opponent abusing your Protects to setup, as Quag has Unaware.

Hariyama @ Choice Band
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 96 Def / 96 SpD / 64 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Knock Off
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
Ever since the departure of Sawk, Choice Banded Hariyama has become an underrated monster in this tier. Has a perfect combination of coverage, surprise factor, and durability that allow it to exploit teams that have let their guard down due to Sawk's absence. I've used it to great success on ladder, tours, and test matches and it has really become a favorite set of mine. If you haven't had the chance to use it yet I strongly urge you to try it out ^_^

Vileplume @ Heat Rock
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 32 HP / 252 SpA / 224 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

- Sludge Bomb
- Moonlight

Unlike OU, NU is a tier where speed control based on weather isn't really taken into consideration when building (barring very rarely rain). These mons can function like Ludicolo as a late game weather sweeper. They are really strong since they can run Modest and still outspeed everything relevant under the sun (like that pun?). Not many teams are prepared for strong Grass/Fire coverage, and counters can be put to sleep with a really fast sleep powder. These pair well with threats like Solar Power Specs Charizard and can punch huge holes without making a dedicated sun team.

Pawniard @ Eviolite
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 248 HP / 4 Atk / 188 SpD / 68 Spe
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Knock Off
- Iron Head
- Taunt

Don't have any replays because I was hiding them for NUPL, but this set is really cool and acts as a blanket check to stuff like Jynx, Musharna, CroDino, and Shiftry. Also who switches a Xatu in on a Pawn. that is all.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/nu-370642603

Proof that Dustox is actually viable. Unlike most quiver dance users, I use dustox as a defensive booster.
Dustox @ Black Sludge
Ability: Shield Dust
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Quiver Dance
- Bug Buzz
- Roost
- Toxic

Shield dust is great in that it provides immunity to secondary effects to moves such as body slam and scald. With quiver dance it can build its sp.def. and very quickly become a force to be reckoned with. Bug buzz gives it a stab attack with the chance to lower your opponents sp.def.. Roost keeps dustox alive. And, Toxic is where this set really gets fun. It can stall out opponents and boost its stats at the same time. So byebye to mega-audino, gastrodon, and any other defensive wall not steel or poison typed.

enjoy.

Magmortar @ Passho Berry
Ability: Vital Spirit
EVs: 24 HP / 252 SpA / 232 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 SpA
- Fire Blast
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Thunderbolt
- Taunt

So i created this set when i was looking through the teambuilder and wanted something that could lure Aqua Jet users so my Rhydon could sweep. Passho berry allows you to survive Aqua Jets from Life Orb Kabutops and Samurott and you can retaliate with a Thunderbolt. Hitting 286 speed lets Magmortar outspeed jolly Kabutops, and the speed with Taunt comes in handy for shutting down lead Smeargles.

Throh @ Leftovers
Ability: Guts
EVs: 248 HP / 80 Def / 180 SpD
Careful Nature
- Bulk Up
- Rest
- Sleep Talk / Knock Off
- Circle Throw

RestTalk Throh isn't anything new, I just find it to be a pretty underrated set that can be really difficult to stop once it gets going. Thanks to its fantastic 120/85/85 bulk, it can check a wide variety of mons, like Abomasnow, Samurott, Shiftry, Magmortar, Haunter/Rotom with Knock, Swellow, Skuntank, Pinsir, Aggron and more, and even use some of these as set-up fodder. This set is fantastic for hazard stacking teams, phazing out mon after mon, letting them rack up poison, spike, and rocks damage, and being able to Rest up and heal to full while your opponent struggles to kill this fatty. It faces some competition from Hariyama, but if you want a win-con, phazer, and blanket check to a ton of mons, Throh might be something you want to look into.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/nu-376045705 <- Here I played like shit, but was still able to win because Throh was able to set up to victory once the Ghost type(Golurk for ya noobs) was dead.

Musharna @ Colbur Berry
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 240 HP / 252 SpA / 16 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psychic
- Future Sight
- Moonlight
- Signal Beam

Future Sight Mush is a really cool set I've been using lately with stuff like Primeape, Magmortar, and Hitmonchan as it's a great way of forcing in stuff like Hariyama, Garbodor, and Weezing. Mush can easily fire off future sights with it's natural bulk, which can cause huge issues for the opponent in picking what has to take the hit.

Replays:
http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/nu-376075763 (Mush forces in Shiftry, takes it out with Signal Beam, and then heals up as Future Sight bops Prinplup.)
http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/nu-375199924 (Mush legitimately destroys everything in this replay)
http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/nu-376085137 (Mush didn't get to do as much in this fight, but Future Sight was helpful in breaking Aboma's Substitute)

Liepard @ Black Glasses
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Dark Pulse
- Copycat
- Encore

More of an underrated set than a creative one but Nasty Plot Liepard definitely deserves more appreciation. Liepards normal switch-ins will usually fall victim to this set and it's nice to catch them off guard, on there lower lower special defence. Copycat not only serves as priority after you've used dark pulse but you can be used to steal your opponents moves too, like stealth rock, Close Combat or w/e to your advantage. Most of the counters for this set can be weakened down since they generally lack any recovery but overall I definitely recommend people giving this set a go!

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/nu-379243828
This wasn't the best game but Liepard sweeps after turning Malamar/Cradily into set up fodder.

Aggron @ Shuca Berry / Chople Berry / Passho Berry
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Head Smash
- Heavy Slam
- Superpower / Earthquake

So Choice Band Aggron is really scary, forcing people to bring in their Rock-resists or lose a Pokemon. Aggron can capitalize on the switches it forces by running a Stealth Rock set, either setting up the hazard as the foe switches to their Gastrodon/Torterra/Poliwrath, or using Head Smash to bluff a choice set before going for the appropriate coverage move if their switch-in is something like an Aggron of their own. It also means you don't have to run Mesprit as your Rocker which is nice. Shuca/Chople/Passho let Aggron take a decently strong physical Ground-, Fighting-, and Water-type moves respectively and get an attack off against their users, such as Tauros, Scarf Primeape, and Kabutops. Overall I found this set to be more useful than the Sturdy Metal Burst set as it lets Aggron use its signature Head Smash and be less passive in general. Adamant for power and Jolly for a better Speed-tier that beats Aurorus.

252 Atk Life Orb Tauros Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Shuca Berry Aggron: 143-169 (50.8 - 60.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Aggron Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Primeape: 288-339 (106.2 - 125%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Lilligant @ Choice Specs
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 SpA / 30 Spe
- Leaf Storm
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Nature Power

Regular Lilligant is a threat, don't get me wrong and Scarf, while less powerful, is a nice quick revenge killer (although not seen too often anymore). Sometimes though, I just wished I've had the immediate power without having to boost. That's where Specs comes in. While it can in no way replace the QD set, the one thing specs Lilligant has over all its other sets is an absurdly strong Leaf Storm. It rips through teams like nothing, and unless your name is AV magmortar or Scyther it does 50% or more to everything you could possibly imagine. The best part is that you're actively taking advantage of most sleep absorbers trying to switch in like xatu, vileplume, or whatever and either beat or severely weaken them without taking any damage yourself.

tl;dr: It's stronk.

Here's an underrated set that I haven't really seen other people use that I highly recommend trying:

Haunter @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Sludge Wave
- Shadow Ball
- Substitute
- Pain Split

Any time I use haunter I always come back to subsplit since I feel like it capitalizes on free switches most effectively compared to other sets. The only things that switch into haunter are skuntank and really specially defensive mons such as sliggoo and hariyama, and if an opponent lacks these, the general response is to sack something and revenge kill it with a faster mon or try tactical loop switching into something that can chew a hit and retaliate. However, with this set you can sub as an opponent sacks a mon/switches and all of the sudden pick up a kill you otherwise wouldn't have gotten. Yeah its bulk is pretty sad but thanks to garbodor being the most common hazard setter and audino being on pretty much on every defensive build, haunter can generally find a switchin opportunity vs all kinds of builds and begin to set up subs and firing off its powerful stab attacks. You can also come in on weezing (try to avoid wisp) and clefairy (watch out for twave on the switch and knock off variants)

Pain split is what makes this set a huge pain for some teams to deal with- even if you have things that can chew its attacks and either ko back or life orb stall it, haunter can just heal itself back up to pretty much full while stripping off nearly half of hariyama's health (if at low hp) and just keep going. Between sub and pain split it's pretty much impossible to play the switching game, and if you don't have a good answer to haunter you pretty much lose a mon everytime it comes in. What's cool about this set is that the surprise factor can work more than once- if your opponent knows that you're sub, they are much less likely to try switching around in fear of letting you have a free sub, so you just can pick off things like mesprit or xatu that may go for psychic stab to keep you from setting up. This might even be healthy mons that your opponent would prefer to keep, as if they sack fodder they may give up a sub and lose a mon anyway.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/nu-382252258
Here's a game on the ladder against an opponent I had played multiple times already so he knew my sets. Haunter opens the game by killing a full health xatu thanks to my opp's fear of sub, then taking advantage of choice band hariyama multiple times when my opp overpredicts and later tries to pass a wish to it. Haunter could have had 5 kills in this game if I brought it back in again at the end.

Skuntank might seem like a problem for this set but all you need to do is whittle skuntank to around 75% and then you can 2hko with sludge wave on the switch, and it it's physical you have the advantage with the sucker/pursuit mindgames, and if it's special you just kill it. Destiny bond can often be useful for teams that really want to remove skunk and yama, but as a standalone attacker subsplit haunter is brutal, and it is not an uncommon occurrence where subsplit haunter just gets 2-3 kills in the midgame and completely breaks the game. Ik sludge bomb is standard but I prefer wave since I've seen sludge bomb barely miss on a lot of 2hko's even though it's just 5 bp weaker. If you're good at hax you'll get the poison anyway.

Also if you wanna be really gay you can spam twave alongside this set and get free subs off of hax. Running this alongside tspikes and going hex > shadow ball is also cool since you can do crazy shit like killing defensive lanturn and bulky rhydon when they switch in at 75% (between first turn poison damage, stealth rock, and hex) and leave that encounter with a sub intact.

been a while since i've posted here, but i'm back boys (and girls o.o) with some dank sets, so yeh :3

Miltank @ Chople Berry
Ability: Thick Fat/Scrappy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Counter
- Body Slam

okay, so everyone who unfortunately knows me understands i enjoy the complexity of the meme; which tbh is what this set was originally supposed to be, a meme. however, once i actually started to use it i found that wasn't the case, and even though i was using it on a meme team; it, did, work. miltank is bulky af and can take physical hits so easily with it's base def and hp being high, allowing it to counter more than 1 mon. don't believe me, here are some calcs:

252+ Atk Choice Band Guts Hariyama Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Chople Berry Miltank: 318-375 (80.7 - 95.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Hariyama Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Chople Berry Miltank: 142-168 (36 - 42.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 Atk Choice Band Primeape Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Chople Berry Miltank: 177-208 (44.9 - 52.7%) -- 25.8% chance to 2HKO
252+ Atk Life Orb Iron Fist Hitmonchan Drain Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Chople Berry Miltank: 126-149 (31.9 - 37.8%) -- 94.5% chance to 3HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Aggron Head Smash vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Miltank: 250-295 (63.4 - 74.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

a heat set that I've been meaning to post but haven't until now.

Steve (Mantine) @ Wacan Berry
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 232 HP / 240 Def / 16 SpD / 20 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Mirror Coat
- Defog
- Scald
- Toxic
"I hate running defensive Mantine, but if you're gonna do it, you better run something cool." here's a set that I've been using in a few NUL games and its managed to do its job pretty well. According to user: Silver Aurum, I'm not the first one to use this but I havent seen anyone else using it recently so I'd figure i would post it here. Ev's are ripped straight from the normal defensive set and I'm sure they could use some optimizing for getting the most out of the wacan berry. it's main use for me has been as a magmortar lure, but it's also good for punishing volt switch users and getting a lot of damage off on whatever comes in on Mirror Coat. Try it out sometime!

Replays

This set sounds like a ridiculous gimmick but it can actually cheese through matchups if you just get rid of steels and ghosts.

King Slack (Vigoroth) (M) @ Eviolite
Ability: Vital Spirit
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 16 Atk / 16 Def / 216 SpD / 12 Spe
Careful Nature
IVs: 0 SpA
- Slack Off
- Amnesia
- Bulk Up
- Facade

The EVs are designed so you reach jump points in Attack (300 after a BU boost), Defense, and Sp.Def (300 def and 330 sp.def with Eviolite). 12 speed EVs creeps standard 160 Poliwrath by a few points, allowing you to setup Amnesia and take little from Focus Blast.

252+ SpA Poliwrath Focus Blast vs. +2 248 HP / 216+ SpD Eviolite Vigoroth: 104-126 (28.6 - 34.7%) -- 3.5% chance to 3HKO
252+ SpA Magmortar Fire Blast vs. +2 248 HP / 216+ SpD Eviolite Vigoroth: 69-82 (19 - 22.5%) -- possible 5HKO
252+ SpA Life Orb Mesprit Psychic vs. +2 248 HP / 216+ SpD Eviolite Vigoroth: 66-78 (18.1 - 21.4%) -- possible 5HKO

Unlike the Taunt set you can now setup on special attackers without much worry, Vital Spirit is also great because it prevents Lovely Kiss/Sleep Powder from crippling you, meaning the only status to ever fear is Toxic and Freeze (due to Facade).

It does have it's shortcomings in the fact that Steels/resists can hinder it, Ghosts, and toxic spikes, but otherwise it can become a destructive win condition if the circumstances are right.

(s/o tennis for believing in me)

Replays:

Naive Nature

- Surf/Hydro Pump

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/nususpecttest-402066447 - If I didn't have aqua jet this would've come down to a 50/50, but I knew that if I weakened shiftry a bit aqua jet could block sucker and beat it.

That's the only replay I have, but it does so damn much. It can safely revenge kill Combusken, a big threat to offense. It can 2HKO a heavily dented Kangaskhan that assumes you don't have Aqua Jet. It can revenge kill Magmortar, Rhydon, +2 Omastar in rain, Vivillon, Rock Polish Aggron/Golurk, and Scarf Pyroar (or just faster fire types), among other things. You no longer have to bite your nails around that life orb Combusken, just Aqua Jet it! Are you staring down a +2 Magmortar? Let's see if it's still +2 when it takes a jet to the face!

You should get the idea.

ok, so last week in the matchmaking thread we had to find a partner for SD eviolite combusken, i saw the posted set, and it hit me: THUNDERPUNCH

✌(◉ヮ◉ ) (Combusken) @ Eviolite
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Flare Blitz
- Low Kick
- Thunder Punch

The idea is simple. What mons o switch into combusken? Water types! Pelipper and Mantine are normally pretty good counters against standard Combusken (who runs HP Electric special these days?), and thats where Thunderpunch comes to use. At +2 it 1HKOs both of the bulky Water/Flying Mons, while your Combusken most of the time sits at +2 Atk and +2 Speed. Thunderpunch is also a pretty good answer against Flying Types like Archeops and Charizard, which would also be pretty good Checks to Combusken. Its also a nice alternative to Flare Blitz, if you dont want to take recoil Damage, although it does less Damage than a neutral Flare Blitz.
This set works, because everyone thinks about Protect. You bring Combusken in on almost everything and the opponent wont attack it in the first turn, because the Protect is so obvious, and thats when you go for the SD ;)

Problem with this set: It has to be Jolly to outspeed Pyroar etc. after +1, so its pretty weak, even at +2 and fails to 1HKO many mons, without the help of hazards, so Combusken works best with a reliable Rocks Setter like Pinsir or Piloswine (both beat Xatu) and Priority User (Poliwrath, Skuntank) or a fast Revenge Killer.
Either way, its best use is as a Lategame Cleaner, when everything is weakened. Also, Combuskens Bulk isnt that bad with an Eviolite, so it often can live a hit from an opponent, if they're not afraid of Protect.

calcs:
252 Atk Combusken Thunder Punch vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Pelipper: 180-212 (55.7 - 65.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Combusken Thunder Punch vs. 252 HP / 240 Def Mantine: 248-292 (74.2 - 87.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 Atk Combusken Low Kick (60 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Archeops: 105-124 (29.6 - 35%) -- 15.3% chance to 3HKO
252 Atk Combusken Thunder Punch vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Archeops: 176-208 (49.7 - 58.7%) -- 99.6% chance to 2HKO

252 Atk Combusken Thunder Punch vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Charizard: 152-180 (42.3 - 50.1%) -- 0.4% chance to 2HKO (Charizard doesnt KO back without hazard dmg)

Timid Nature

Not my idea but felt that this set is worth sharing as its really cool. This is pretty similar to Sub CM Uxie which people used a ton in XY, just with Ice Beam over Giga Drain since hitting Dark-types and Xatu harder is more useful generall but if your team needs it other coverage moves like Signal could fit here. Most offensive Mesprit variants these days are either Specs or Life Orb and one of the main draws of using Sub on Mesprit is to mess with Sucker Punch users like Shiftry and Kangaskhan, as well as setting up on weak hits like Mega Audino's gleam or Gastrodon. Being completely honest I have no idea what this EV spread does so ryan can chime in if he likes, as this was the set he passed me to try out when I was intrigued by the idea of Sub CM Mesprit. That being said you get quite a few opportunities to boost up versus defensive teams so little Special Attack investment doesn't really seem like much of a hindrance imo, and the extra bulk is handy for its Substitutes taking hits.

I have been messing around with this set for a while and I'm happy with the results. Here's the exact details on Mixed LO Garbodor. (actually had a workshop with it a week ago or two)

THEY TOLD ME (Garbodor) (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Aftermath
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Rash Nature
- Gunk Shot
- Focus Blast
- Toxic Spikes
- Giga Drain/Psychic

Garbodor becomes an amazing lure that's able to decimate pokemon like DD Rhydon, Steelix, and deal heavy damage to Gastrodon and other switch-ins. In addition, it's still able to maintain the 2ko vs Defensive M-Dino, 2ko Hariyama with Gunk Shot, etc. Psychic might sound silly but it lets you 2KO Garbodor, Vileplume, and Weezing, if your team ever needs it.

This of course isn't exactly perfect, you lose out on the opportunity to get a fantastic defensive spiker, but still.

(unfortunately Garbo can't ohko tank don, but it can definitely bopped a weakened one)

Banned deucer.

Skuntank (M) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Aftermath
EVs: 252 SpA / 108 SpD / 148 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Acid Spray
- Dark Pulse
- Fire Blast
- Defog

-My favourite Skuntank set by far, I planned to post it for a while but kinda forgot.I think black sludge is best item for defog Skun in the long run,as it gives it longevity through the match, combined with Acid spray it turns it into a lot more reliable answer to CM psychics and CM mega Dino ,allowing it to beat them 1v1. HP grass (Luretank set) might be cool for teams that already have answer to those and appreciate rhydon lure, but this set fits perfectly on more balanced builds/or even bulky offense/Stall that need a reliable answers to musharna etc.. ,as naturally they already have a good switchins and answers to barbaracle/DD rhydon so Hp grass might not be neccesary. EVs allows it to outspeed abomasnow by 1 point, and rest is maxed sp.at and decent number of sp.def to take on special hits better. I dont have many replays, since I usually dont save them and havent laddered a lot this month.

Lanturn @ Chesto Berry
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 40 HP / 216 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Rest
- Thunder Wave
- Volt Switch
- Scald

Just a small change from the norm with chesto berry over leftovers. This set is the method I've been using to deal with fast offensive sleepers (read: jynx and vivillon). You can eat the sleep and then cripple them/break sash. Outside of beating them, your function is basically that of a normal lanturn, but you have an instant recover + status clear instead of lefties + heal bell, which imo makes you better vs threats like rotom or pyroar. But really it's just a tiny change that can pay off massively a good matchup, meaning this fairly low risk high reward.

Charizard @ Lum Berry / Life Orb / Weakness Policy
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 176 HP / 252 Atk / 80 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Flare Blitz / Fire Punch
- Earthquake
- Roost / Thunder Punch

So DD Zard isn't exactly new or groundbreakingly innovative, but I toyed around with it lately and it's surprisingly good. What I like about this set is that it abuses the fact that most people bank on Zard either being specially offensive or bulky DD with flying coverage, and fire/ground coverage wrecks that. Lanturn, a common switch in to Zard, dies to +1 Earthquake, and even the offensive AV sets, which are OHKO'd by unboosted Earthquake 50% of the time, fail to do more than 81% to Zard. Weezing is another good example: sludge bomb does 34% max, you don't care about the initial poison due to the lum berry, and you 2HKO it after +1. The beauty of this set is its versatility: sometimes, you find time to set up multiple DDs and sweep, sometimes you just capitalize on your bulk, click DD once and break some walls for the rest of your team.

The EVs are basically max ATK, enough speed to outspeed Swellow after one DD, and the rest in bulk. Items can be switched out according to your teams needs. I personally prefer the lum berry as it often gives opportunities to boost up once more, but both Life Orb and Weakness Policy have their merits. To take lanturn as an example again: you can come in after Lanturn killed something, Dragon Dance on the scald, and then proceed to tear through whole teams. Same can be done on predicted Samurott Aqua Jets, if Stealth Rocks are down and you have already confirmed it isn't Life Orb Samu. Aqua Jet has a 7,8% chance of 2HKOing Zard with this EV spread, and you still outspeed adamant Rotters. There's plenty examples like this, try it out and see for yourself. Life Orb brings a lot of power to the table, but makes you weak to yellow magic.

I don't usually collect replays, so I just played a game and took that. Obviously throwaway account and very low ladder, weird sets on my opponents part, but Zard does some work at the end. I will try to add more replays to this.

Carracosta @ Assault Vest
Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Scald
- Knock Off
- Rock Tomb / Stone Edge
- Aqua Jet

At first I was trying this out as a meme but AV Carracosta has some serious bulk and can actually lure a lot of its usual checks with this set. Many Electric-types such as Lanturn, Rotom, and Manectric usually rely on Volt Switch to deal with Water-types, expecting the move to KO. However, Carracosta can tank all of these hits thanks to Solid Rock and can give the switch-in a number of debuffs, such as trying for a Scald burn, removing its item with Knock Off, or slowing it down with Rock Tomb so a teammate can deal with it more efficiently. While Carracosta obviously isn't very powerful without any investment, its Attack stat is still decent enough to do chip damage and to revenge weakened Pokemon with Aqua Jet. This set is more of a supporter for teams that want to wear stuff down for a wincon / sweeper and need a solid specially defensive tank with Carracosta's set of resistances. Although it lacks Defense investment, it is still decently physically bulky.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/nu-412114028: Carracosta takes approximately zero from Zebstrika and ends up winning the game after tanking both it and a defensive Mesprit.
http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/nu-412461233: Carracosta takes zero from a Lanturn Volt Switch and wallops Trevenant, ends up cleaning up the game with Aqua Jet.
http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/nu-412610700: Carracosta takes on a Tauros and Lanturn simultaneously and wins against both.

Other calcs you might find amusing.
