Hello and welcome to SM Monotype Theorymon! The idea of this project is to share your ideas and see how creative you can be about improving Pokemon and making itself or its type more viable. This project is open to everyone, so long as you all follow the rules. Discussions and feedback are encouraged and you can contribute to these without submitting your own ideas.

Overview:

Every round, I will choose a slate of three Pokemon. Your goal is to one, two, or all of the Pokemon, and improve their stats, typing, or movepool. Voting will start when: a week or so has passed, there have been more than 10 submissions and a week is near, or there have been more than 5-7 submissions and the project is quiet. The winning submission will be featured in the Hall of Fame.

Rules / Tips:

• Make sure your ideas don't include extreme buffs such as giving the Pokemon Huge Power or an insanely powerful move and +100 Special Attack. Be reasonable.
• When making changes to a Pokemon, don't focus only on improving what the Pokemon already does. You could make it work differently by changing its moves, ability, typing, and let it do more than it normally does.
• Submit your idea in full — include the item, EVs, nature, and moves — using the PS! importable format for readability.
• Give a description on how the changes you made help the Pokemon and the typing. This project is meant to encourage discussion and sketchy posts don't help with that.
• Don't insult other people for their ideas even if you think it's bad. Let the voting period decide that.
• Editing your idea is allowed as long as it's not during the voting period.
• Do not post the same set as other Pokemon. There's no precedent to this, but it's obvious when someone has blatantly copies another user and changes just the EVs.
Overall boosts in stats must not exceed 10 to prevent broken submissions.
Do NOT copy any sets from the previous thread. You will be punished.
• You can only post one submission per Pokemon; you can post a total of three submissions, though (one for each Pokemon on the slate).
Bold or make apparent the changes you make to the Pokemon on the set (example).
• You can only make a maximum of 3 changes to a Pokemon. Each new move counts as one move, as does a new ability and a new typing.
• Have fun!

Stats: 223/101(+6)/53(+22)/97/53(+22)/43

Moves gained: Toxic Spikes, Recover
New Ability: Regenerator

Guzzlord @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 56 Def / 200 SpD
Careful Nature
- Recover
- Toxic
- Dragon Tail
- Toxic Spikes

Guzzlord has ended up being a huge letdown due to many factors. It has great bulk, but is held back due to lack of recovery, speed and offensive presence. Its typing as well wasn't anything new, and didn't add much to the type.
The changes made focus mainly on improbing Guzzlord's recovery options, as well as giving it a much better support and offensive movepool. Giving it the Poison typing would do wonders to both itself and to Dragon teams. It would have potential as a physical, special or mixed wall, and if it had the Regenerator ability along with Recover, it would serve as an excellent defensive pivot, and if it had access to Toxic Spikes, it would be able to reliably keep hazards up, and would be a great status staller. Dragon Tail would let it phaze out any opponent that tries to set up on it, which most of the time would be the only way to bring it down, as well as stopping it from being Taunt fodder. Fairies, which are Immune to Dragon Tail, would usually switch out fearing Poison STAB.

Stats: 75/125(+20)/140/60/90/40(+30)

Moves gained: U-Turn
New Ability: Adaptability
Golisopod @ Choice Band
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- U-turn
- First Impression
- Liquidation
- Aqua Jet

Golisopod laid a good First Impression (not sorry) on us with its great typing and signature move. However, it was held back due to its slow speed and it's ability Emergency Exit, which forces it to switch out once it's health drops below half. It also missed access to U-Turn.
If Golisopod had a slight buff to speed and an ability that matched its cool looks, it would very much be a great threat. If it had access to U-Turn, it would create 50/50s, since it would threaten the opponent with strong priority in First Impression or gain momentum on a switch with U-Turn. Liquidation would be able to 2HKO most, if not all, walls present in the meta right now that don't resist it. Aqua Jet would give it reliably spammable priority, petting it pick off a weakened Fire or Rock team.

Stats: 70/115(+10)/60/115(+10)/60/55(+30)

Moves gained: Fire Blast, Earthquake, Taunt, Leaf Blade
New Ability: Tinted Lens

Cacturne @ Life Orb
Ability: Tinted Lens
EVs: 200 Atk / 56 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Fire Blast
- Earthquake
- Drain Punch
- Taunt / Leaf Blade

Cacturne had a lot of potential, having access to good coverage moves, a somewhat unique typing, and a STAB priority move. However, it was held back due to its poor speed.
Giving it a Ground typing would let it be useful on both types. It could serve as a Steel killer if it had any other Fire coverage, on Grass teams, and would serve as a Water check on Ground teams. Adding a bit more Speed would place it in a decent speed tier for a mixed attacker. The buff in speed would somewhat make up for the loss of STAB priority. On the steelkiller set, it carries coverage to hit every Steel Mon for super effective damage, with Fire-Fighting-Ground coverage. Drain Punch also lets it regain a bit of health, compensating Life Orb recoil. Leaf Blade could be used on Ground teams so as to act as a Water and Ice check with Fire Blast and Drain Punch.

Symphonii Thanks for the submission ^.^ Just a small qualm - do you think you could bold the new changes you made to the Pokemon? It makes this easier for people to know what you've added. Thanks!

(I'll add this to the Rules / Tips)

(Changes in bold)

A dangerous Ultra Beast, it appears to be eating constantly, but for some reason its droppings have never been found.

HP 223 / ATK 120 (+19) / DEF 53 / SPATK 97 / SPDEF 53 / SPE 74 (+31)

Note these are just the moves I want to focus on, not a list of all the viable moves.
Physical Moves: Crunch, Knock Off, Dragon Claw, Earthquake, Hammer Arm, Rock Slide, Stone Edge, Heavy Slam, Outrage
Special Moves: Fire Blast, Flamethrower, Dark Pulse, Draco Meteor
Status Moves: Autotomize

Guzzlord is one of 7 pokemon that get an amazing new SuMo ability, beast boost. However due several factors such as its defensive typing, speed, and defensive stats it marks itself as the worst of the Ultra Beasts. The above changes would fit the theme given in it's Moon pokedex entry, making it a truly dangerous Ultra Beast. Firstly it's attack is increased to 120, making it a bit stronger. The main change in base stats however, is an increase in speed to 74. This gives it the same speed as Seismitoed, and with the addition of Autotomize into it's movepool it can reach a base stat of 494 with a neutral nature, barely outspeeding choice scarf base 100s while underspeeding choice scarf 101s like Thundurus-T. This will give dark a fast offensive and unique wincon that can quickly spiral out of control with the right team support. On dragon it can be used to help deal with the annoying normal core, utilizing a Choice Band wallbreaking set that can finally break past certain walls while also providing Knock Off support. It also gets a few special moves, letting it attempt to break past physical walls such as Skarmory with flamethrower. The given offensive movepool adjustments give Guzzlord a few more viable stabs that it is missing.

Guzzlord @ Dragonium Z
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Autotomize
- Knock Off
- Outrage
- Fire Blast

This specific set aims at cleaning up weakened teams. Autotomize will let Guzzlord outspeed base 100 choice scarfs and attempt to sweep with Knock Off and a Z-Outrage. Fire Blast is on this set to break past Skarmory, as even with no investment it will always 2HKO it.

It battles skillfully with its six arms, but spends most of its time peacefully meditating in caves deep beneath the sea.

-->
, Emergency Exit --> Water Bubble

HP 75 / ATK 125 / DEF 140 / SPATK 60 / SPDEF 140 (+50) / SPE 40
Physical Moves: First Impression, Aqua Jet, Liquidation, Rock Slide, U-Turn, Knock Off, Dragon Claw
Status Moves: Shore Up, Stealth Rock

Giving it a dragon typing instead of water and a boost in special defense makes it a bit more defensive, being able to switch into electric moves for Araquanid and Mega Pinsir, fire moves for any 4x weak bugs and water moves for everything that's neutral and it's rock, flying, ice, and fairy weakness can be helped by its fellow teammates such as Scizor. Stealth Rock support is nice to free up a Armaldo's item so it can run AV. Shore Up is chosen as a recovery move since it best fits with the water theme, and U turn lets it be a slow pivot to its teammates. Knock Off can provide general utility, and getting rid of items is always nice. Even with no special defense evs Golisopod will never be 2hkod by Charizard Y's sun boosted Fire Blast, and maxing out your defense lets it easily take Victini V-Creates.

Golisopod @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Bubble
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Impish Nature
- Shore Up
- Stealth Rock
- Knock Off / Rock Slide / Water Move / Dragon Claw
- U-turn / First Impression

Guzzlord

223 HP/113 Atk (+12)/60 Def (+7)/97 SpA/ 60 SpD (+7)/67 Spe (+24)

New Moves: Dragon Dance, Throat Chop, Gunk Shot

Guzzlord is considered the worst Ultra Beast because of it's lack of healing moves and subpar stats besides HP, which sits as a monstrous 223. Now, it's attack is increased to 113, to make it a bit stronger, especially after a Dragon Dance, which is the main boost to this Pokemon. After one Dragon Dance, it can outspeed and nearly OHKO all non-choice scarfed Fairy types (bar Tapu Koko, though you do outspeed neutral speed natures) with Gunk Shot or Earthquake (For pesky Klefki and Magearna). It also outspeeds (without a scarf) all Ice, Fighting, Dragon, and all but two Bug Types, and this important because they are all super effective on Guzzlord. Throat Chop could be used over Crunch if you are fearing Pixilate Sylveon.

Guzzlord @ Focus Sash
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature

Please tell me if I did anything wrong, as this is my first post in monotype.

Guzzlord
New Stats: 223/111/53/97/83/43 (+10 Attack, +30 Special Defense)

New Moves: Knock Off, Bulk Up, Spikes, Toxic Spikes

Guzzlord's stats have always looked pretty good, with respectable 223/53/53 bulk and solid attacking sets. However, everyone thinks it needs a tiny boost in its defenses and offenses to really shine as a tank. Guzzlord gets +10 Attack, to give it that extra bit of added power with Heavy Slam and its other STAB moves. Guzzlord has a huge HP stat but very bad defenses; to patch this up, I decided to give it +30 Special Defense to become a fantastic special tank. 223/53 does not sound nearly as good as 223/83, now able to live even some Fairy moves like Dazzling Gleam from Togekiss, for example. As for the moves; my goal was to make Guzzlord viable, but not an overpowered or centralizing force in the metagame. Because of this, I did not give it recovery moves, but rather some support moves such as Spikes, Toxic Spikes, and a new STAB in Knock Off. This makes Guzzlord now a very good lead, with several useful resistances. It also becomes a new (perhaps better?) lead for Dragon teams, allowing them to replace Garchomp with Zygarde (or not having to run both).

Sets:
Guzzlord @ Leftovers
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 148 HP / 156 Def / 204 SpD
Careful Nature
- Heavy Slam
- Knock Off
- Spikes
- Toxic Spikes

Golisopod
New Stats: 85/125/140/60/100/40 (+10 HP, +10 Special Defense)

New Moves: Thunder Punch, Ice Punch, Fire Punch, Gunk Shot

New Ability: Tough Claws

Determining Golisopod's buff was really easy. Nothing is too wrong with it stat-wise, boasting 125 Attack and 140 Defense, but +10 HP and +10 Special Defense was added in order to increase its overall bulk a little further. As for the moves and ability, it makes sense flavour wise and is also a big buff to add the elemental punches and Tough Claws (Look at those hands!). Gunk Shot increases its newfound coverage even more, hitting the Fairy types it previously could not with it. The most important change is in the ability. Emergency Exit was not a good ability- it did not capitalize on its bulky attacking style and was very hard to play with. Tough Claws, again, makes sense flavour wise, and turns Golisopod into a very dangerous wallbreaker, boosting all of the elemental punches and Leech Life. Overall, Golisopod was only lacking in its ability, but now it breaks more bulky teams with an ability that is perfect for it.

Golisopod
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Leech Life
- Ice Punch
- Liquidation
- Bulk Up

Cacturne
New Stats: 70/135/70/115/70/65 (+20 Attack, +10 Defense, +10 Special Defense, +10 Speed)

New Moves: Leaf Blade, Parting Shot

New Ability: Magic Guard

Cacturne, not being a very viable Pokemon, saw a very big buff. Its new Attack stat of 135 is perfect to abuse with Sucker Punch, and its new STAB Leaf Blade. Cacturne also got a slight increase in bulk and speed and is now able to serve as a dangerous setup sweeper with Swords Dance, reaching very high Attack and effective priority after one turn. Magic Guard is a great ability because it can now spam Sucker Punch more effectively, not having to worry about incoming Toxic users or any other form of residual damage besides burn. Cacturne turned (nice pun) from a very bad setup sweeper that was too weak, slow, and frail to a very dangerous sweeper that can clean unprepared teams and pivot out with a very useful Parting Shot.

Cacturne @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 88 HP / 252 Atk / 168 Spe

- Sucker Punch
- Parting Shot
- Swords Dance

The boost to Attack may be utilized in a Choice Band set, with Gunk Shot and Dragon Claw being the primary STAB moves with Earthquake for coverage and Heavy Slam for neutral hits against a majority of foes. The steelkiller set focuses mainly on hitting everything on Steel teams for super effective damage, with Fire-Ground-Fighting coverage.

You're only allowed one set for each Pokemon - each set counts as a submission so you can't have more than one for each Pokemon.

Also, if you're pointing out new moves, you have to make sure that they are on the set - if you say that Cacturne gets <move> but you don't actually put that move on the set, you either have to remove the move mention or add it on the set. Declarity

Legit the only reason you should use Guzzlord over Hydreigon, passing massive wishes to its teammates while being able to hold on its own is a great thing. There are a couple of Pokemon which appreciates Wish Support in both Dark and Dragon (Hoopa-U, Sableye, Tyranitar, Garchomp, Dragonite [Especially for getting Multiscale again]) Crunch is just STAB to hit stuff while Heavy Slam can be used over Toxic to actually deal damage to Clefable.

Water Bubble is an amazing ability, but it is way too passive for Araquanid. And although emergency exit can be a great ability, it can also be a detrimental one, so changing that out was the first thing I thought of. Water Bubble doubles the damage of water-type moves, halves damage from fire-type moves, and can't allow the pokemon to be burned. Golisopod's water-type attacks would essentially have huge power and it would be unable to get burned, meaning it's sweeping potential is great paired with it's access to priority. 252 attack and 252 speed, 252 speed on a neutral nature reaches 179, outspeeding skarmory by 3 points. Golisopod would be great on bug, checking fire types and dealing heavy damage back as well. And taking out walls like skarmory, pory2, and more.

Thanks for the submissions, guys - keep them coming! Voting will start tonight at around ~19:00 GMT, so be sure to get your theorymons in before then.

On a side note, I'm not particularly happy with a couple of submissions - nothing major, though, and it's not your faults. I should've been more clear with a certain rule, but there's no point telling people to change their sets with less than a day left for submissions, so I'll let you know about it after voting.

Just a tip for some theorymon ppl:
If ur going to give it a boost in stats, don't just give it boosts b/c the op said +50 max was allowed, give it b/c it actually helps in something. Giving it +10 speed? Why, what does that speed tier do for it? Giving it +10 spdef? Why, what does it help live? Also ik a lot of these new mons can go into S rank, but don't make them ban worthy. Don't need to take this advice if u dont want, just some tips i use myself to make a theorymon.
Anyways,
1. Arifeen
2. declarity
3. hnbl

2. Waszap 's Water Bubble Golisopod

3. HNBL 's Ground-type Cacturne

Well done to our winners :)

Okay, so time for the announcement: a lot of the Theorymons that were posted were great, and I thank you all for participating; however, I feel like some of you went too far. A new typing, a +10 Speed boost to get out of, let's say, a crowded base 100 Speed tier, or a new ability to complement a moveset are all fine changes. However, a +20 Attack and +30 Speed boost, 4 new coverage moves, Adaptability, and a Fire typing is not fine. We're meant to be improving Pokemon, not making them outright broken. I spoke to Tyke and Waszap about this - thanks to both of you, by the way - and there are going to be some changes to the rules, which will become effective next cycle (~1 month?).

Overall boosts in stats must not exceed 50 Overall boosts in stats must not exceed 10 to prevent broken submissions.

People were going a bit crazy with stat boosts, and I believe the previous thread had this rule. Stat boosts are there to aid a Pokemon, not to completely flip it on its head.

Bold or make apparent the changes you make to the Pokemon on the set.

Arifeen's submission is a perfect example of this; post the PS! importable and bold the new ability/move, post the Pokemon's new stat spread bolding the increased stats, as well as ability. Eg:

Stats: 100/110/100/100/100/100 (No Changes)
Typing: Psychic / Fighting
Mew @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- a
- b
- c

• You can only make a maximum of 3 changes to a Pokemon. Each new move counts as one move, as does a new ability and a new typing.

People were making too many changes; I should be able to easily describe a new set, like "Adaptability Alomomola" or "Fire / Water Infernape", not "Water / Ice Adaptability Alomomola with Blizzard and base 100 Speed".

Nevertheless, thanks to everyone for taking part in the project :) PM me if you have any questions/suggestions for next cycle's slate.

• Do NOT copy any sets from the previous thread. You will be punished.
• You can only post one submission per Pokemon; you can post a total of three submissions, though (one for each Pokemon on the slate).
Bold or make apparent the changes you make to the Pokemon on the set(example).
• You can only make a maximum of 3 changes to a Pokemon. Each new move counts as one move, as does a new ability and a new typing.
• Have fun!

Posting duration(subject to change): Sunday 15th – Wednesday 18th ~12:00 GMT
Voting duration(subject to change): Wednesday 18th – Saturday 21st ~12:00 GMT

Reminder that you can only submit one Theorymon for each Pokemon. Also remember to check the rules thoroughly - I will not allow any submissions that break them to go through the voting round. Good luck!
