[Monotype] Seismitoad (Ground) [QC: 0/3] [GP: 0/2]

Seismitoad (Ground)

QC: x / x / x
GP: x

[OVERVIEW]

Ground
========

* Water Absorb grants immunity to Water-type attacks, making Seismitoad invaluable on Ground teams. This allows Seismitoad to check major threats such as Azumarill and Crawdaunt.
* Seismitoad has a unique Water / Ground typing, giving it a neutrality against Ice-type attacks. Unfortunately, this also causes Seismitoad's 4x weakness to Grass.
* Seismitoad has a decent movepool in utility options such as Stealth Rock and Knock Off along with coverage such as Sludge Wave and Grass Knot.
* Its 105 / 75 / 75 bulk combined with with a good movepool allow Seismitoad to function as an Assault Vest user.
* Seismitoad lacks reliable recovery, which limits its longevity.
* Gastrodon rivals Seismitoad as a Water-type counter as it has better bulk and access to reliable recovery; however, Seismitoad has better coverage options and a lot more Speed.

* Sludge Wave
* Knock Off

* Grass Knot
* Hydro Pump

Set Details
========

* Water Absorb is the basis of the set and makes Seismitoad immune to Water-type attacks. It also functions as a form of passive recovery.
* 152 Speed EVs lets Seismitoad check Jolly Azumarill and Adamant Crawdaunt. It also out speeds variants of Tapu Fini, Celesteela, and Tyranitar.
* Maximum Special Attack lets Seismitoad deal as much damage as possible against its foes.
* The remaining EVs go into HP to maximize Seismitoad's bulk.
* Assault Vest raises Seismitoad's Special Defense in order to tank special hits.
* A Timid nature combined with at least 224 Speed EVs allows Seismitoad to out speed and lure Tapu Bulu or Breloom using Sludge Wave, as well as Magearna and Bisharp. However, most Tapu Bulu carry a Choice Scarf and Seismitoad benefits much more from bulk than Speed as a water absorbing tank.

Other Options
=============

Ground
--------
* Toxic allows Seismitoad to break walls such as Mega Slowbro and Rotom-W but it cannot be used together with Assault Vest.
* A specially defensive set with Leftovers can turn Seismitoad into an efficient Stealth Rock setter, as access to utility moves in Knock Off and Toxic shut down threatening defoggers such as Mantine, Pelipper, Latios, and Zapdos. Unfortunately, this set is unable to properly check Azumarill.
* Boosting items such as Life Orb or Choice Specs can be used on offensive sets, however Seismitoad's offensive power is still considerably weak even with them, and continues to struggle against common defensive cores with walls such as Mantine and Araquanid.
* Hidden Power [Electric] is an option specifically to target Mantine, Gyarados, and Pelipper. However, Seismitoad has a limited moveset and struggles to find room for it.
* Focus Blast provides Fighting-type coverage against Steel-, Dark-, and Ice-type threats such as Ferrothorn, Hydreigon, and Kyurem-Black.
