Moves

Thunder gains perfect accuracy thanks to No Guard and is Tapu Koko's most powerful STAB attack. Volt Switch allows Tapu Koko to pivot out of unfavourable matchups while dealing solid damage. Grass Knot is used to 2HKO most Ground-types that like to switch in on Tapu Koko, which other variants of Tapu Koko aren't strong enough to do reliably. Nature's Madness does 50% to Primal Groudon, which only takes around 30% from Grass Knot, as well as forcing Blissey to use Wish or Soft-Boiled before pivoting out with Volt Switch. Alternatively, Dazzling Gleam is a secondary STAB, but its only real targets are rare Dragon-types such as non-Pinsirite Zygarde and Latios.

Set Details

Maximum Special Attack is used to hit as hard as possible. Maximum Speed and a Timid Nature is used to outspeed the majority of the meta, including speedsters such as Kartana and Shaymin-S. Pidgeotite gives Thunder perfect accuracy and grants an amazing boost of 65 base Special Attack and 20 base Speed. Electric Surge is a fantastic pre-Mega ability, allowing Tapu Koko to wallbreak effectively with Thunder.

Usage Tips

Generally spam Thunder as much as possible as it is the most powerful move in Tapu Koko's arsenal. Use Volt Switch to pivot out of bulky special walls, such as Blissey and Cresselia, and retain momentum. Grass Knot should be used when it is predicted that a Ground-type such as Hippowdon or Arceus-Ground will switch in. If it is anticipated that Primal Groudon will come in, use Nature's Madness to cripple it, which will prevent it from hard switching in again. If Primal Groudon has more than 25% health when it comes in, hard switch to a teammate better equipped to take on Primal Groudon, as Grass Knot is unlikely to KO. Sometimes it is advisable to delay mega evolving in order to set Electric Terrain via Electric Surge a second time and still have that extra power up your sleeve. If using Nature's Madness, use it early in the game to cripple Tapu Koko switchins.

Team Options

Kartana is a great teammate as Pidgeotite Tapu Koko can lure in and 2HKO Zapdos while Kartana can scare out physical walls. Primal Groudon checks such as Golisopod, Arceus-Ground, and Arceus-Water serve as great partners as they can take on Tapu Koko's best counter. Hoopa-U is able to take on Cresselia for Tapu Koko. Terrakion and Primal Groudon are great partners for Tapu Koko to set hazards and take on checks to Tapu Koko such as Blissey and Red Orb Raikou. Deoxys-S can set hazards for Tapu Koko, allowing it to land more KOs.

-Dazzling Gleam is a secondary STAB that hits Dragon-types
-Alternatively, Tapu Koko can use Nature's Madness to do 50% to Primal Groudon, which only takes around 30% from Grass Knot, however Dazzling Gleam is generally preferred and teammates can be used to patch up the Primal Groudon weakness. Honestly I'd swap the two, PDoBlissey are everywhere and there are like two relevant dragons, one of which is bopped by thunder postmega anyway. Otherwise, emphasize that its for zygarde.

QC 2/2? I don't know if we need three checks since Jrdn wasn't a part of the team when this started, but if we do...this is your second check either way. :)

Alternatively, Dazzling Gleam is a secondary STAB move, but its only real targets are rare Dragon-types such as non-Pinsirite Zygarde and Latios.
