Ubers Kyogre

QC 3/3 (Hack, Minority, Omfuga)
GP 2/2 (CryoGyro, frenzyplant)

[OVERVIEW]

As one of the very few viable Water-type attackers in the Ubers tier and one that Primal Groudon alone cannot hold down, Kyogre stands out as an offensive powerhouse. Kyogre is capable of many different sets, from an offensive set to a physically defensive tank, and its movepool and scary attacking stats combined with the occasional item switch-up make Kyogre rather unpredictable until aspects of it are revealed in battle. Kyogre also possesses excellent special bulk and usually has the freedom to invest in HP, which can make it difficult to take down for some Pokemon. However, from a teambuilding perspective, Kyogre doesn't really check anything in particular. When this is combined with the fact that Primal Groudon and other Water-resistant Pokemon such as Ferrothorn and Arceus-Water can prove to be very real obstacles that stop Kyogre from doing impactful work, it means that Kyogre is generally looked at as a luxury addition to a team. Kyogre's base 90 Speed is also slow for an attacker relative to the rest of the Ubers metagame, but Kyogre does have the bulk to take some hits to help offset it.

Moves
========

Calm Mind turns Primal Kyogre into a very strong wallbreaker, as a boosted Origin Pulse is capable of 2HKOing Ferrothorn, Blissey, and Arceus-Water after Stealth Rock damage. Origin Pulse is one of Primal Kyogre's strongest attacks when boosted by Primordial Sea, as it is able to outright OHKO Pokemon such as Yveltal as well as OHKO offensive Xerneas and Celesteela after Stealth Rock damage. Ice Beam offers good coverage against Dragon- and Grass-types and is also this set's method of chipping away at Primal Groudon, taking around 30% HP away from even the most specially defensive variants. Substitute helps Kyogre avoid status effects from slower defensive Pokemon as well as Ferrothorn's Leech Seed. This means that Ferrothorn sets lacking Power Whip, as well as any Chansey or Blissey sets lacking Confide, can find themselves turned into setup fodder. Thunder is an alternative option to Substitute and is Kyogre's best way to damage opposing Water-types such as Arceus-Water, Palkia, Toxapex, Tentacruel, and Kyogre. Calm Mind-boosted Origin Pulse can break through most of these Pokemon without it, however. Hidden Power Ground can be used as an alternative fourth move, offering the highest damage output against Primal Groudon, but it has no other targets. This perk alone can make it worth considering, however.

Set Details
========

Maximum HP investment makes the best use of Primal Kyogre's bulk, allowing it to take hits so that it can output damage afterwards. It can avoid an OHKO from Primal Groudon's Precipice Blades, for example. When Kyogre is utilizing Substitute, the HP investment also allows for 101 HP Substitutes, preventing rare situations such as a Seismic Toss breaking the Substitute. Maximum Special Attack investment with a Modest nature puts a lot of power behind Primal Kyogre's attacks. A base 180 Special Attack stat combined with Primordial Sea can lead to destructive damage output. Alternatively, some HP can be taken away in favor of Speed investment, an example being 76 Speed EVs to outspeed 0 Speed Yveltal and Xerneas. However, most benchmarks around Kyogre's Speed tier are not really worth sacrificing bulk for. Blue Orb is the necessary item for Kyogre to become Primal Kyogre.

Usage Tips
========

Calm Mind Primal Kyogre is best used as a wallbreaker, boosting once or twice and then throwing out very strong attacks. Avoid using Calm Mind early-game against teams with multiple Kyogre checks such as Ferrothorn and Primal Groudon, as doing so anyway is generally a wasted turn. Getting chip damage on them with Ice Beam and switching out until they are sufficiently weakened is ideal. Ferrothorn and Primal Groudon will require some whittling down via either unboosted attacks or teammates if Kyogre wants to break through them without taking much damage. Trying to take on a healthy Ferrothorn without Substitute is a difficult task, and it becomes even more difficult if Ferrothorn is running Power Whip. Avoid this fight whenever possible. Note that while Kyogre's coverage options cover a lot of targets, some Water-resistant threats such as Dialga actually take more damage from a resisted Origin Pulse than a neutral Ice Beam. Support Arceus formes can make for potential foes to use Calm Mind against, but this will rarely be done for free, as Kyogre may take a Toxic or an attack from faster variants of these formes first. Other relatively passive Pokemon such as some Steel-types and Zygarde-C can be overpowered very easily even by an unboosted Primal Kyogre, which can open up Calm Mind opportunities if Primal Kyogre forces them out. Keep in mind that this set is relatively slow, so expect almost all offensive Pokemon to be able to outspeed Kyogre and land a hit on it before it can move. Primal Kyogre's high special bulk means that handling some special hits isn't so bad, but it can be vulnerable to taking a lot of damage from physical attackers due to its average Defense.

Team Options
========

Xerneas is one of Primal Kyogre's best partners. Primal Kyogre takes advantage of many Steel-types that are used as Xerneas checks, and the duo combined can overwhelm Primal Groudon with unboosted attacks over the course of a match, opening opportunities up for one of the two to wreak havoc. Mega Scizor and Tapu Koko are possible partners that tend to attract Pokemon such as Arceus-Ground, Primal Groudon, and Ho-Oh. With the usage of U-turn from either Mega Scizor or Tapu Koko, Primal Kyogre can find free turns to come in against something it heavily threatens. If Primal Kyogre comes in via U-turn after a Primal Groudon has switched in, heavy rain will be the active weather. Primal Groudon also fits well alongside Primal Kyogre, as it is capable of handling Ferrothorn, setting Stealth Rock, and dealing with any rare Grass- and Electric-types for Primal Kyogre. Pokemon such as Mega Gengar and Gothitelle, which are capable of trapping Primal Kyogre checks, make for effective partners as well. With the right moveset, they can eliminate Pokemon such as Blissey, Chansey, and Ferrothorn to open up opportunities for Primal Kyogre. Marshadow can be used to help Primal Kyogre out against offensive teams, an area it struggles in. Ho-Oh can take advantage of Ferrothorn and form a wallbreaking duo with Primal Kyogre. Ground-type checks such as Celesteela, Mega Salamence, Rayquaza, and Yveltal are all options to assist Kyogre against Primal Groudon depending on the overall structure of your team. Celesteela also has the perk of covering Mega Salamence.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Waterfall, when combined with investment into Primal Kyogre's base 150 Attack stat and a boost from Primordial Sea, outputs notable damage from an unexpected angle and strikes special walls such as Blissey in their weaker spots, landing an easy 2HKO. Waterfall also comes with a flinch chance and reliable accuracy for a STAB attack, something special sets can lack. Earthquake is this set's best damage option against Primal Groudon and can deal upwards of 47% to bulky Primal Groudon variants, which is another good reason behind this set's viability. Ice Beam hits the Dragon- and Flying-types that the first two moves are unable to get good damage on such as Salamence, Rayquaza, and Zygarde. Thunder targets opposing Water-types such as Arceus-Water and Kyogre, as without Thunder, Arceus-Water in particular would become a very good check to this set.

Set Details
========

Maximum HP investment makes the best use of Primal Kyogre's bulk, allowing it to take hits so that it can output damage. It can avoid an OHKO from Primal Groudon's Precipice Blades, for example. Maximum Attack investment puts power behind Waterfall and Earthquake so that they can effectively damage their targets. A Brave nature is opted for over Adamant so that Thunder is a reliable 2HKO on Arceus-Water and so that Ice Beam is a reliable 2HKO on Giratina-O. The Speed loss isn't as detrimental, as this set preys on defensive teams, which are normally slow by nature. Blue Orb is required for Primal Reversion, which is especially important for this set, as base forme Kyogre's Attack stat is far too low to make use of such a physical moveset.

Usage Tips
========

Physical Primal Kyogre plays similarly to other offensive sets, but it comes with the option to deal heavy damage to Primal Groudon with Earthquake and hit special walls such as Blissey and Chansey much harder than special sets, as it can 2HKO them with Waterfall after Stealth Rock. Note that this set is hard walled by Ferrothorn. Unlike Calm Mind sets, which can potentially overpower a weakened Ferrothorn, physical Primal Kyogre can only deal around 30% to Ferrothorn with Earthquake at best and will take Iron Barbs damage if Ferrothorn switches into Waterfall. Avoid this matchup as much as possible. If Primal Kyogre finds a free turn to get in against Primal Groudon, take it. The loss in weather control can force Primal Groudon out into any secondary Water-resistant Pokemon, which can be taken advantage of. Be wary about how fast the Primal Groudon is, however, or it may take down Kyogre first if given the chance. This set shines against more defensive teams that use Primal Groudon and a special wall to cover Kyogre. Landing an Earthquake on an incoming Primal Groudon can put the opponent in a bad position, as Primal Kyogre is likely to KO Primal Groudon first.

Team Options
========

Xerneas is a great partner to this set, and with Primal Kyogre having a better matchup against Primal Groudon, Xerneas is freed up to use a Choice Scarf set, which helps Primal Kyogre against offensive teams. Choice Scarf Xerneas can get away with supporting Primal Kyogre further with Aromatherapy and can even use Hidden Power Fire to lure and KO Ferrothorn. U-turn support from Mega Scizor, Tapu Koko, and Landorus-T can help Primal Kyogre find free turns against its ideal targets. Yveltal can make good use of this set's ability to weaken special walls such as Blissey and Chansey, and Yveltal can use U-turn itself to give Primal Kyogre extra switch-in attempts. Charm Gothitelle can make for a good partner, as it can trap and remove Ferrothorn, this set's biggest annoyance. Primal Groudon and Ho-Oh can take advantage of Ferrothorn to assist Primal Kyogre. Arceus-Grass, while a niche Pokemon, can make for a good partner to this set, as it can act as a good stop to just about anything Ferrothorn wants to do if it carries moves such as Fire Blast and Defog.

[SET]
name: Physically Defensive
move 1: Scald
move 2: Rest
move 3: Sleep Talk
move 4: Ice Beam / Toxic
item: Blue Orb
ability: Drizzle
nature: Bold
evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Scald is the ideal move for a defensive set, compensating for lower damage output with a decent burn rate and higher PP than most of Kyogre's other STAB options. Rest and Sleep Talk are Kyogre's best options for staying healthy and avoiding giving free turns to the opponent. Having Ice Beam is especially important here to target physical Dragon-types such as Salamence and Rayquaza. Toxic is an alternative option to Ice Beam that spreads the crippling status effect onto opposing Arceus formes and Primal Groudon, making this set a more effective check to them.

Set Details
========

Maximum HP and Defense investment helps Kyogre stand up to unboosted physical attackers such as Primal Groudon and Mega Salamence while also reducing the damage from Pokemon such as Zygarde-C to negligible. Blue Orb is required to become Primal Kyogre and is used over another item such as Leftovers due to the extra special bulk Primal Kyogre has as well as the ability to better check Primal Groudon thanks to Primordial Sea.

Usage Tips
========

Defensive Primal Kyogre should be used more as a tank than as an outright physical wall that can be sent into physical attackers easily. Kyogre's base 90 Defense can let it down when facing very strong physical attackers such as Choice Band Ho-Oh and Mega Lucario, even with all of its investment. This means that this set should be switched in when it isn't likely to take a strong attack doing so; other defensive Pokemon like support Arceus formes are probably not going to be able to touch this set, for instance. A neutral Judgment will only scratch Kyogre, and Toxic can be cured easily with Rest. If Primal Kyogre is carrying Toxic itself, it can pose a real annoyance to teams that don't have a Ferrothorn. Spread status with Scald and Toxic to wear down the opposing team, as this can leave an opening for a teammate. While this set is able to switch into defensive Pokemon without much fear, note that in some cases, such as when facing Blissey or Chansey, neither Kyogre nor the foe will be able to take the other out. PP stalling these Pokemon can be an option, but keep track of Kyogre's own PP when doing so. This set is also capable of annoying Primal Groudon, but be aware that variants with substantial Attack investment will still 2HKO Primal Kyogre with Precipice Blades. Assess the Primal Groudon's set first before recklessly switching into it. Mixed Rock Polish sets are unable to 2HKO Primal Kyogre without additional Stealth Rock damage, for example.

Team Options
========

Ferrothorn checks such as Primal Groudon, Ho-Oh, and Mega Sableye are needed with this set to prevent it from being easily neutered. Celesteela can also fit with this set to double up on physically defensive Pokemon and can fit Flamethrower onto its moveset to assist Primal Kyogre against Ferrothorn. Mega Gengar can take advantage of the status effects that this set is able to spread around the opponent's team, gaining additional damage with Hex. This assists Mega Gengar in trapping and removing threats. Xerneas and other Fairy-types such as Mega Diancie and Arceus-Fairy appreciate Primal Kyogre's ability to annoy Primal Groudon and deal with most Steel-type checks to them. Arceus-Grass works well with this set due to its ability to deal with Ferrothorn. Zygarde-C is a physical wall that can pair with Kyogre to cover additional threats and more reliably deal with Ho-Oh. Unlike Zygarde-C, this Primal Kyogre set can make for a good check to mixed Rock Polish Primal Groudon, so this duo can cover quite a lot of Primal Groudon variants.

[SET]
name: Choice Specs
move 1: Water Spout
move 2: Origin Pulse
move 3: Ice Beam
move 4: Thunder
item: Choice Specs
ability: Drizzle
nature: Modest
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Water Spout from a Choice Specs Kyogre is one of the strongest attacks in the tier, outdamaging its unboosted Primal forme by a considerable margin. It lands easy 2HKOs on Blissey and Ferrothorn, which are the typical checks to Kyogre on stall teams. Origin Pulse from Choice Specs Kyogre is similar in power to a +1 Primal Kyogre's Origin Pulse but slightly weaker. It is still capable of OHKOing maximum HP Arceus formes neutral to it after Stealth Rock. Ice Beam assists in covering Dragon- and Grass-types while getting good damage on Primal Groudon. Thunder targets opposing Water-types that resist the other moves on the set. Hidden Power Ground can be used over Thunder to 2HKO any variant of Primal Groudon, which can help Kyogre do more against offensive teams.

Set Details
========

Maximum Special Attack and Speed EVs give a Choice Specs set the most effectiveness. Kyogre will be faster than most defensive walls with this much Speed investment. Choice Specs puts a very large boost behind Kyogre's attacks and lets it therefore shatter defensive teams.

Usage Tips
========

Against teams lacking Primal Groudon, which is typically the case for stall teams, aim to get Choice Specs Kyogre in safely against something it forces out in order to wallbreak with Water Spout. Avoid taking damage in matchups where Water Spout's full power is necessary to break some targets. Too much residual damage on Kyogre can result in Water Spout lacking the damage needed to 2HKO Ferrothorn, Chansey, and Blissey. Against teams with Primal Groudon, it should be accepted that this set may have issues getting full-power Water Spouts off. Choice Specs-boosted Origin Pulse still does a lot of damage when it is time for Water-type attacks. Aim to damage incoming Primal Groudon switches with Ice Beam; it will 3HKO any variant at worst. Be aware that Kyogre should not be sent into Primal Groudon if given a free switch like Primal Kyogre can; Drizzle does not override Desolate Land, so Kyogre will be forced to use Ice Beam anyway. Most Pokemon around Kyogre's base 90 Speed tier tend to lack Speed investment, so it is likely but not guaranteed that Choice Specs Kyogre will outspeed Pokemon in the same Speed tier. This set has no bulk investment, so expect any hits on Kyogre to leave a mark. It is unlikely that this set will be of much use against very offensive teams as a result.

Team Options
========

As this set's primary role is to punch holes into stall teams, Choice Specs Kyogre should be paired with partners that are able to either help with wallbreaking or cover Kyogre's weakness to offensive teams. Xerneas follows up well on Kyogre's wallbreaking, as it can use many different sets to take advantage of Kyogre breaking through Pokemon such as Ferrothorn, Chansey, and Blissey. Marshadow and Celesteela are potential partners that assist Kyogre against typical Pokemon seen on offensive teams. Anything that can give Kyogre the ability to come in without taking damage in order to preserve Water Spout's power is ideal, so a slow U-turn partner like Mega Scizor works well. Trappers such as Mega Gengar, Charm Gothitelle, and Dugtrio are all usable options in order to either force damage on threats for Kyogre to break past or remove them entirely to take some pressure off it. Mega Gengar can also assist against offensive teams that Kyogre struggles with. A method to handle Primal Groudon is necessary when using Choice Specs Kyogre, as while this set is primarily aimed at punching into stall teams that don't typically feature a Primal Groudon, hoping for the correct matchup is too risky to have consistent success. Arceus-Ground is a good option to deal with most Primal Groudon sets, as are Ground-type immune Pokemon such as Mega Salamence, Yveltal, and Rayquaza.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Choice Scarf Kyogre can work in some situations but tends to need more dedicated support to help break through Primal Groudon, as it struggles to revenge kill anything due to the threat of Primal Groudon switching in for free. A specially defensive set is a possibility for Primal Kyogre, making it much better at handling support Arceus formes, Yveltal, and even Geomancy Xerneas in a pinch, but such a set struggles with fitting everything it wants into its moveslots. Blizzard combined with Calm Mind and Icium Z is a niche option for base forme Kyogre, with the intention to lure in Primal Groudon and take it out with a boosted Subzero Slammer. This requires being the focus of a team to work, however.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Primal Groudon**: While Primal Groudon is vulnerable to being worn down by Kyogre and its teammates over the course of a match, it still forces any Kyogre variant to hesitate before using a Water-type attack for fear of Primal Groudon switching in for free. Primal Groudon can strike Kyogre for heavy damage with Precipice Blades and is neutral to Ice Beam and immune to Thunder. Physical Kyogre sets are capable of dealing heavy damage to Primal Groudon with Earthquake, and repeated uses of Ice Beam from other sets can whittle down Primal Groudon's HP.

**Ferrothorn**: Ferrothorn is able to switch into most Kyogre sets courtesy of its typing and beat it one-on-one by stalling it out with Leech Seed. Kyogre sets carrying Substitute can potentially beat Ferrothorn, but Ferrothorn can prevent this by running Power Whip.

**Blissey and Chansey**: Blissey and Chansey are capable of switching into unboosted Kyogre very easily and can then attempt to Toxic stall Kyogre or heal off any damage taken. Calm Mind Primal Kyogre sets can find themselves neutered by Confide. Rest variants of Kyogre turn the matchup into a stalemate, with the winner determined by PP stalling.

**Water-types**: Arceus-Water, Toxapex, and opposing Primal Kyogre can make use of their typing to pivot into Kyogre, potentially before switching back to a Primal Groudon to regain weather control. Thunder will 2HKO these Pokemon, however.

**Dragon-types**: While Ubers's Dragon-types are either weak or neutral to Ice, they can still make use of their movepools and resistance to Water-type attacks to get damage on Kyogre and potentially take it down. Mega Salamence, Rayquaza, Palkia, Zekrom, Dialga, and Arceus-Dragon are all notable examples.

**Revenge Killers**: Kyogre is at an average base 90 Speed in either forme, leaving it open to being revenge killed by faster Pokemon in the tier, especially those that can exploit Kyogre's weaker Defense stat. Examples include Mewtwo, Marshadow, Mega Lucario, Mega Gengar, and various Arceus formes.

[OVERVIEW]

* One of the very few viable Water-type attackers in the tier, Kyogre stands out as an offensive powerhouse that Primal Groudon alone cannot hold down.
* Kyogre is capable of many different sets, from all out offense to a physically defensive wall.
* Its movepool and very scary attacking stats when combined with the occasional item switch up makes Kyogre very unpredictable until aspects of it are otherwise revealed in battle.
* Kyogre's excellent bulk and ability to invest in it can make it very difficult to take down. Not many Pokemon in Ubers can dish out as much damage while also having the bulk levels of Kyogre. However, it doesn't really check anything in particular.
* Primal Groudon when combined with other Water-resistant Pokemon such as Ferrothorn and Arceus-Water can prove to be very real obstacles that stop Kyogre from doing lasting work.
* Kyogre's base 90 Speed is also slow for an attacker relative to the rest of the metagame, but it has the bulk to take hits to offset its low Speed.

* Maximum HP investment makes the best use of Primal Kyogre's bulk, allowing it to take hits so that it can output damage. It can avoid the OHKO from Primal Groudon's Precipice Blades, for example. When utilizing Substitute, it also allows for 101 HP Substitutes, preventing rare cases such as Seismic Toss Chansey from breaking the Substitute.
* Maximum Special Attack investment with a Modest nature puts a lot power behind Primal Kyogre's attacks. Base 180 Special Attack combined with Primordial Sea can lead to destructive damage output.
* Alternatively, some HP can be taken away in favor of Speed investment, with some examples such as 76 Speed EVs to outspeed 0 Speed Yveltal and Xerneas. However, most benchmarks around Kyogre's speed tier are not really worth sacrificing bulk for.

* Trying to take on a full HP Ferrothorn without Substitute is a difficult task, and this becomes even more difficult if Ferrothorn is running Power Whip. Avoid taking this fight whenever possible.
* Kyogre's coverage options cover a lot of targets, but some Water-resistant threats such as Dialga actually take more damage from a resisted Origin Pulse than a neutral Ice Beam.
* Support Arceus formes can make for potential targets to use Calm Mind against, but it will rarely be done for free. Kyogre may take a Toxic or an attack from the faster Arceus formes first.
* Other relatively passive Pokemon such as some Steel-types and Zygarde-C can be overpowered very easily even by an unboosted Primal Kyogre, which can open up Calm Mind opportunities if Primal Kyogre forces them out.
* This set is relatively slow. Expect almost all offensive Pokemon to be able to outspeed Kyogre and land a hit on it first. Primal Kyogre's special bulk means that handling some special hits isn't so bad, but it can be vulnerable to physical attackers.

* Maximum Special Attack and Speed EVs give a Choice Specs set the most effectiveness. Kyogre will be faster than most defensive walls with this much Speed investment.
* Choice Specs puts a very large boost behind Kyogre's attacks and can therefore shatter defensive teams with the extra power.

Usage Tips

* Against teams lacking Primal Groudon, which is typically noticed on stall teams, aim to get Choice Specs Kyogre in safely against something it forces out and pick up a free KO with Water Spout.
* Avoid taking damage in matchups where Water Spout's full power is necessary to break some targets. Too much residual damage on Kyogre can result in it lacking the damage needed to 2HKO Ferrothorn, Chansey, and Blissey.
* Against teams with Primal Groudon, it should be accepted that this set may have issues getting full power Water Spouts off. Choice Specs Origin Pulse still does a lot of damage when the time for Water-type attacks is there. Aim to damage incoming Primal Groudons with Ice Beam; it will 3HKO any variant at worst.
* Be aware that Kyogre cannot be sent into Primal Groudon if Primal Groudon has taken down a teammate like Primal Kyogre can. Drizzle does not override Desolate Land, so Kyogre will be forced to use Ice Beam anyway.
* Most Pokemon around Kyogre's base 90 Speed tier lack Speed investment. It is likely that Choice Specs Kyogre will outspeed Pokemon in its Speed tier thanks to all the investment.
* This set has no bulk investment, so expect any hits on Kyogre to leave a mark. It is unlikely that this set will be of much use against very offensive teams.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Primal Groudon**: While Primal Groudon is vulnerable to being worn down by Kyogre and its teammates over the course of a match, it still forces any Kyogre variant to hesitate before clicking its Water STAB in fear of Primal Groudon switching in for free. Primal Groudon can also strike Kyogre's weaker Defense stat for heavy damage with Precipice Blades, while also being neutral to Ice Beam and immune to Thunder. Physical Kyogre sets are capable of dealing heavy damage to Primal Groudon with Earthquake, and repeated Ice Beams can whittle Primal Groudon's HP.

**Ferrothorn**: Ferrothorn is able to switch into most Kyogre sets courtesy of its typing and beat it one on one by stalling it out with Leech Seed. Kyogre sets carrying Substitute can potentially beat Ferrothorn, but Ferrothorn can prevent this by running Power Whip on its set.

**Blissey and Chansey**: Blissey and Chansey are capable of switching into unboosted Kyogre very easily and can then attempt to Toxic stall Kyogre or heal off any damage taken. Calm Mind Primal Kyogre sets can find themselves neutered by Confide repeatedly lowering Kyogre's Special Attack. Rest variants of Kyogre turn the matchup into a stalemate, with the winner determined by PP stalling.

**Water-types**: Arceus-Water, Toxapex, and opposing Primal Kyogre can make use of their typing to pivot into Kyogre, before switching back to a potential Primal Groudon to regain weather control. Thunder will 2HKO these Pokemon, however.

**Dragon-types**: While many of Ubers's Dragon-types are either weak or neutral to Ice, they can still make use of their movepools and resistance to Water-type attacks to get damage on Kyogre and potentially take it down. Salamence, Rayquaza, Palkia, Zekrom, Dialga, and Arceus-Dragon are all notable examples.

**Revenge Killers**: Kyogre is left at an average base 90 Speed in either forme, leaving it open to being revenge killed by faster Pokemon in the tier, especially those that can hit Kyogre's weaker Defense stat. Examples include Mewtwo, Marshadow, Mega Lucario, Mega Gengar, and various Arceus formes.

I'm thinking Specs should have its set. I've seen it on a few teams and it's not to be taken lightly. Stalls that don't utilize Primal Groudon are instantly broken and even teams with Primal Groudon has to predict between Ice Beam or dying to Water Spout. Furthermore the set is a great anti meta mon by appreciating Ho-oh and Arceus-Ground being so omnipresent.

Not really checking anything sucks for it but it has become increasingly easy to cover HO with mons like Celesteela and Marshadow in SM.

Wouldn't you agree Sub would be the first slash on the main set btw?

qc 1/3 if we get some discussion on Specs going

I actually had a Specs set in this skeleton previously because I fully agree with all you have said, but there was some opposition in the QC hub so I removed it. I'll add it (and your other feedback) when I finish this for the QC stage hopefully later today and we can work from there.

Not QC, just some suggestions:
-Add Sticky Web to Team Options. I've found that with the support, this thing will just mow down teams. It's not too bad a play style rn - Marshadow wasn't the best for it, with that Shadow Sneak circumventing the drop and killing things regardless, in addition to the rise of stall and balance, not too great for SW - but I've found it to work with Pogre well.
-IMO Specs and Scarf are the only viable non-primal sets, I'd personally remove Icium Z + Blizzard. It might nab some important OHKOes that I'm not aware of but it makes Kyogre significantly worse in pretty much all other aspects. I'm not certain, you don't have to remove it :P

Gonna have to disagree with this. Icium Z Kyogre is actually a pretty cool Primal Groudon lure that can dent it heavily and open up an opportunity for something that normally gets walled to all hell by it (namely GeoXern).

Arceus-grass, although a niche pokemon overall, should be listed as a partner to kyogre (particularly physical kyogre and maybe phdef) as it can act as a full-stop to ferrothorn. Fire blast is pretty much necessary, and you can even use defog to make sure ferrothorn doesn't do anything long-term. It's the only decent leech seed blocker in the tier outside of sableye (only really fits on stall)/ferrothorn (can't do anything back).

I'd add hp ground to moves of specs as an alternative option. It 2hkos every pdon and leaves kyogre walled only by waterceus (even then, water spout kyogre from full will always 2hko waterceus, and pulse does half giving you a free switch).

In other options maybe add a 4 attack special Kyogre set to act as an alternative to physical, but with more hitting power vs Lugia, support arceus, arceus-water, ferrothorn, and opposing kyogre. It's also not walled by wisp support arceus (dragon or dark for example), which can counter physical ogre. Perk over cm ogre is that you can 2hko pdon, making kyogre a much more useful option vs any type of offense. Pretty outclassed set but I think worth mentioning.

[OVERVIEW]

As one of the very few viable Water-type attackers in the Ubers tier, Kyogre stands out as an offensive powerhouse that Primal Groudon alone cannot hold down. even though the analysis says "ubers" think this is too ambiguous, this is kind of a subjective change tho Kyogre is capable of many different sets, from an all out offense offensive set to a physically defensive wall, and its movepool and scary attacking stats, when combined with the occasional item switch up, makes Kyogre rather unpredictable until aspects of it are revealed in battle. you used the words "a physically defensive wall" so i think that the other item in the from...to statement should follow the same "a ___" form Kyogre also possesses excellent special bulk and usually has the freedom to invest in it, which can make it difficult to take down for some Ubers Pokemon. However, Kyogre from a teambuilding perspective doesn't really check anything in particular. When this is combined with the fact that Primal Groudon and other Water-resistant Pokemon such as Ferrothorn and Arceus-Water can prove to be very real obstacles that stop Kyogre from doing lasting work, it means that Kyogre is generally looked at as a luxury addition to a team. "x means that y" works on its own, but the "when this is combined with z" part mandates the "it" Kyogre's base 90 Speed is also slow for an attacker relative to the rest of the Ubers metagame, but it does have the bulk to take some hits which can help offset its low Speed.

Moves
========

Calm Mind turns Primal Kyogre into a very strong wallbreaker, as a boosted Origin Pulse is capable of 2HKOing Ferrothorn, Blissey and Arceus-Water after Stealth Rock damage. Origin Pulse is one of Primal Kyogre's strongest attacks when boosted by Primordial Sea, as it is able to outright OHKO Pokemon such as Yveltal, as well as OHKO Xerneas and Celesteela after Stealth Rock damage. Ice Beam offers good coverage against Dragon- and Grass-types, and it is also this set's method of chipping at Primal Groudon, taking around 30% of its HP away from even the most specially defensive variants. the "of its" is unneeded because "the most specially defensive variants" is just another word for pdon; "taking around 30% of its (pdon's) hp away from pdon" is redundant Substitute helps Kyogre avoid status effects from slower defensive Pokemon, as well as avoid Ferrothorn's Leech Seed. This means that Ferrothorn sets lacking Power Whip, as well as any Chansey or Blissey sets lacking Confide, (AC) can find themselves turned into setup fodder for a Substitute set. Thunder is an alternative option to Substitute, and is Kyogre's best way to damage opposing Water-types such as Arceus-Water, Palkia, Toxapex, Tentacruel, and opposing Kyogre. Calm Mind-boosted Origin Pulses can break most of these Pokemon without it, however. Hidden Power Ground can be used as an alternative fourth move, offering the highest damage output against Primal Groudon, but has no other targets. This perk alone can make it worth considering, however.

Set Details
========

Maximum HP investment makes the best use of Primal Kyogre's bulk, allowing it to take hits so that it can output damage afterwards should it need to. It can avoid the OHKO from Primal Groudon's Precipice Blades, for example. When utilizing Substitute, it also allows for 101 HP Substitutes, preventing rare situations such as a Seismic Toss from breaking the Substitute. Maximum Special Attack investment with a Modest nature puts a lot of power behind Primal Kyogre's attacks. A base 180 Special Attack stat combined with Primordial Sea can lead to destructive damage output. Alternatively, some HP can be taken away in favor of Speed investment, with some examples such as an example being 76 Speed EVs to outspeed 0 Speed Yveltal and Xerneas. there are other options for kyogre's speed, but you can't refer to other examples because you only give one However, most benchmarks around Kyogre's speed tier are not really worth sacrificing bulk for. Blue Orb is a necessary item for Kyogre to become Primal Kyogre.

Usage Tips
========

Calm Mind Primal Kyogre is best used as a wallbreaker, boosting once or twice and then throwing out very strong attacks. Avoid using Calm Mind against teams with multiple Kyogre checks such as Ferrothorn and Primal Groudon early in the game, as it generally becomes a wasted turn. Getting chip damage on them with Ice Beam and switching out until they are sufficiently weakened is ideal. Ferrothorn and Primal Groudon will require some whittling down via either unboosted attacks or teammates if Kyogre wants to break them without taking too much damage. Trying to take on a full HP Ferrothorn without Substitute is a difficult task, and this becomes even more difficult if Ferrothorn is running Power Whip. Avoid taking this fight whenever possible. Note that while Kyogre's coverage options cover a lot of targets, some Water-resistant threats such as Dialga actually take more damage from a resisted Origin Pulse than a neutral Ice Beam. Pokemon such as support Arceus formes can make for potential targets to use Calm Mind against, but it will rarely be done for free, as Kyogre may take a Toxic or an attack from the faster Arceus formes first. Other relatively passive Pokemon such as some Steel-types and Zygarde-C can be overpowered very easily even by an unboosted Primal Kyogre, which can open up Calm Mind opportunities if Primal Kyogre forces them out. Keep in mind that this set is relatively slow, so expect almost all offensive Pokemon to be able to outspeed Kyogre and land a hit on it first. Primal Kyogre's high special bulk means that handling some special hits isn't so bad, but it can be vulnerable to taking a lot of damage from physical attackers due to its average Defense.

Team Options
========

Xerneas is one of Primal Kyogre's best partners. Primal Kyogre takes advantage of many Steel-types that are used as Xerneas checks, and the duo combined can overwhelm Primal Groudon with unboosted attacks over the course of a match, opening up one of the two to wreak havoc. Due to Primal Kyogre coming in via U-turn after a Primal Groudon has switched in, Primordial Sea will be the active weather. Primal Groudon also fits well alongside its Primal rival, as it is capable of handling Ferrothorn, setting Stealth Rock, and dealing with any rare Grass- and Electric-types for Primal Kyogre. Pokemon capable of trapping Primal Kyogre checks such as Mega Gengar and Gothitelle make for effective partners as well. With the right moveset, Pokemon such as Blissey, Chansey, and Ferrothorn can be trapped and eliminated to open up opportunities for Primal Kyogre. Marshadow can be used as a partner to help Primal Kyogre out in the matchup against offensive teams, an area it struggles in.

Waterfall, (AC) when combined with investment into Primal Kyogre's base 150 Attack stat and a boost from Primordial Sea, (AC) outputs notable damage from an unexpected angle, and strikes special walls such as Blissey in their weaker spots, landing an easy 2HKO. commas are needed otherwise it looks like "primordial sea outputs notable damage". if you think there's too many commas you can move waterfall so it goes "when combined with...a boost from psea, waterfall outputs notable damage" Waterfall also comes with a flinch chance and reliable accuracy for a STAB attack, something special sets can lack. Earthquake from this set is Primal Kyogre's best damage option against Primal Groudon, which is another good reason behind this set's viability, as it can deal upwards of 47% to bulky Primal Groudon variants. Ice Beam hits the Dragon- and Flying-types that the first two moves are unable to get good damage on such as Salamence, Rayquaza, and Zygarde. Thunder targets opposing Water-types such as Arceus-Water and opposing Kyogre, as without Thunder, Arceus-Water in particular would become a very good check to this set.

Set Details
========

Maximum HP investment makes the best use of Primal Kyogre's bulk, allowing it to take hits so that it can output damage. It can avoid the OHKO from Primal Groudon's Precipice Blades, for example. Maximum Attack investment puts the power behind Waterfall and Earthquake so that they can effectively damage their targets. Brave nature is opted for over Adamant so that Thunder is a reliable 2HKO on Arceus-Water, and also so that Ice Beam is a reliable 2HKO on Giratina-O. The speed loss isn't as detrimental, as this set preys on defensive teams, which are normally slow by nature. Blue Orb is required for Primal Reversion, which is especially important for this set, as base forme Kyogre's attack stat is far too low to make use of such a mixed moveset.

Usage Tips
========

Physical Primal Kyogre plays similarly to other offensive sets, but it comes with the option to deal heavy damage to Primal Groudon with Earthquake, and also hit special walls such as Blissey and Chansey much harder than special sets, as it can 2HKO them with Waterfall after Stealth Rock. Note that this set is hard walled by Ferrothorn. Unlike Calm Mind that sets, which can potentially overpower a weakened Ferrothorn, physical Primal Kyogre can only deal around 30% to Ferrothorn with Earthquake at best, and will take Iron Barbs damage if Ferrothorn switches into Waterfall. calm mind needs to be specified as an ogre set. "that" implies that you're talking about only the calm mind sets with the capability to overpower ferrothorn, but all of them can so think "which" is better. Avoid this matchup as much as possible. If Primal Kyogre finds a free turn to get in against Primal Groudon, take it. The loss in weather control can force Primal Groudon out into any secondary Water-type resistances on the enemy team, which can be taken advantage of. Be wary about how fast the enemy Primal Groudon is, however, or it may take down Kyogre first if given the chance. This set does shine against more defensive teams that use Primal Groudon and a special wall to cover Kyogre. Landing an Earthquake on an incoming Primal Groudon switch can put the opponent in a bad position, as Primal Kyogre is likely to KO Primal Groudon first.

Team Options
========

Xerneas is a great partner to this set, and with Primal Kyogre having more power in the matchup against Primal Groudon, this can free up Xerneas to use a Choice Scarf set, which then helps Primal Kyogre in the matchup against offensive teams. Choice Scarf Xerneas can get away with supporting Primal Kyogre further with Aromatherapy, and can even use Hidden Power Fire to lure and KO Ferrothorn. U-turn support from Mega Scizor, Tapu Koko, and Landorus-T can help Primal Kyogre find free turns against its ideal targets. Yveltal can make good use of this set's ability to weaken special walls such as Blissey and Chansey, and can use U-turn itself to give Primal Kyogre extra switch-in attempts. Charm Gothitelle can make for a good partner as it can trap and remove Ferrothorn, this set's biggest annoyance.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Scald is the ideal move for a defensive set, compensating for the lower damage output with a decent burn rate and higher PP than most of Kyogre's other STAB options. Rest and Sleep Talk are Kyogre's best options at staying healthy and avoiding giving free turns to the opponent. Ice Beam is especially important here to target physical Dragon-types such as Salamence and Rayquaza. Toxic is an alternative option to Ice Beam that spreads the crippling status effect onto opposing Arceus formes and Primal Groudon, making this set a more effective check to them.

Set Details
========

Maximum HP and Defense investment helps Kyogre stand up to unboosted physical attackers such as Primal Groudon and Mega Salamence, while also reducing attacks from Pokemon such as Zygarde-C to very little. Blue Orb is required to become Primal Kyogre, and is used over another item such as Leftovers due to the extra special bulk Primal Kyogre has, as well as the ability to better check Primal Groudon thanks to Primordial Sea changing the weather to a favorable matchup.

Usage Tips
========

Defensive Primal Kyogre should be used more as a tank, and not an outright physical wall that could can be sent into physical attackers easily. Kyogre's base 90 Defense can let it down when facing very strong physical attackers such as Choice Band Ho-Oh and Mega Lucario, even with all of its investment. This means that this set should be switched in when it isn't likely to take a strong attack doing so; other defensive Pokemon are probably not going to be able to touch this set, for instance. Support Arceus formes are generally unable to damage this set. A neutral Judgment will only scratch Kyogre, and Toxic can be cured easily with Rest. If Primal Kyogre is carrying Toxic itself, it can pose a real annoyance to teams that don't have a Ferrothorn. Spread status with Scald burns and Toxic to wear down the enemy team, as this can leave an opening for a teammate. While this set is able to switch into defensive Pokemon without much fear, note that in some cases, such as when facing Blissey and Chansey, neither Kyogre or the enemy Pokemon will be able to take each other out. PP stalling them can be an option, but be wary of Kyogre's own PP when doing so. This set is also capable of annoying Primal Groudon, but be aware that variants with substantial Attack investment will still 2HKO Primal Kyogre with Precipice Blades. Assess the enemy Primal Groudon's set first before recklessly switching into it. Mixed Rock Polish sets are unable to 2HKO Primal Kyogre without additional Stealth Rock damage, for example.

Team Options
========

Ferrothorn checks such as Primal Groudon, Ho-Oh, and Mega Sableye are needed with this set to prevent it from being easily neutered. Celesteela can also fit with this set to double up on physically defensive Pokemon, and could fit Flamethrower onto its moveset to assist Primal Kyogre against Ferrothorn. Mega Gengar can take advantage of the status effects that this set is able to spread around the enemy team, gaining additional damage with Hex. This assists Mega Gengar in trapping and removing threats. Xerneas and other Fairy-types such as Mega Diancie and Arceus-Fairy appreciate Primal Kyogre's ability to annoy Primal Groudon and deal with most Steel-type checks as well. Arceus-Grass works well with this set due to its ability to deal with Ferrothorn. Zygarde-C is also a physical wall that can pair with Kyogre to cover additional threats, and more reliably deal with Ho-Oh. Unlike Zygarde-C, this Primal Kyogre set can make for a good check to mixed Rock Polish Primal Groudon, so this duo can cover quite a lot of Primal Groudon variants.

Moves

Water Spout from a Choice Specs Kyogre is one of the strongest attacks in the tier, outdamaging its unboosted Primal forme by a considerable margin. It lands easy 2HKOes on Blissey and Ferrothorn, which are the typical checks to Kyogre on stall teams. Origin Pulse from Choice Specs Kyogre is similar in power levels to a +1 Primal Kyogre's Origin Pulse, but slightly weaker. It is still capable of landing OHKOes on maximum HP Arceus formes neutral to the move after Stealth Rock. Ice Beam assists in covering Dragon- and Grass-types while getting good damage on Primal Groudon. Thunder targets opposing Water-types that would resist the other moves on the set. Hidden Power Ground can be used over Thunder to 2HKO any variant of Primal Groudon, which can help it do more in offensive matchups.

Set Details

Avoid taking damage in matchups where Water Spout's full power is necessary to break some targets. Too much residual damage on Kyogre can result in it lacking the damage needed to 2HKO Ferrothorn, Chansey, and Blissey. Be aware that Kyogre cannot be sent into Primal Groudon if Primal Groudon has taken down a teammate given a free switchin like Primal Kyogre can. mentioning pdon twice in such a short time sounds weird Drizzle does not override Desolate Land, so Kyogre will be forced to use Ice Beam anyway. Most Pokemon around Kyogre's base 90 Speed tier tend to lack Speed investment. It is likely that Choice Specs Kyogre will outspeed Pokemon in the same Speed tier, but it is not guaranteed. This set has no bulk investment, so expect any hits on Kyogre to leave a mark. It is unlikely that this set will be of much use against very offensive teams as a result.

Team Options
========

As this set's primary role is to punch holes into stall teams, Choice Specs Kyogre should be paired with partners that are either able to help with wallbreaking, (RC) or cover Kyogre's weakness to offensive teams. no comma is needed because an either-or statement doesn't require it Xerneas follows up well on Kyogre's wallbreaking, as it can use many different sets to take advantage of Pokemon such as Ferrothorn, Chansey, and Blissey being taken out. Trappers such as Mega Gengar, Charm Gothitelle, and Dugtrio are all usable options in order to either force damage on threats for Kyogre to break past, or remove them entirely to take some pressure off it. Arceus-Ground is a good option to deal with most Primal Groudon sets, as is other Ground-type immune Pokemon such as Mega Salamence, Yveltal, and Rayquaza.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Choice Scarf Kyogre can work in some situations, but tends to need more dedicated support to help break Primal Groudon, as it struggles to revenge kill anything due to the threat of Primal Groudon switching in for free. This requires a lot of focus from a team to try and make it work, however.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Primal Groudon**: While Primal Groudon is vulnerable to being worn down by Kyogre and its teammates over the course of a match, it still forces any Kyogre variant to hesitate before clicking its Water STAB in fear of Primal Groudon switching in for free. Primal Groudon can strike Kyogre's weaker Defense stat for heavy damage with Precipice Blades, while also being neutral to Ice Beam and immune to Thunder. Physical Kyogre sets are capable of dealing heavy damage to Primal Groudon with Earthquake, and repeated uses of Ice Beam from other sets can whittle down Primal Groudon's HP.

Salamence, Rayquaza, Palkia, Zekrom, Dialga, and Arceus-Dragon are all notable examples. every dragon is weak or resistant to ice. idk if base mence is viable in ubers but if it's not and you're referring to mega mence then you need to put "mega" there

* Blue Orb is necessary for Kyogre to become Primal Kyogre.

Usage Tips
========

* Calm Mind Primal Kyogre is best used as a wallbreaker, boosting once or twice and then throwing out very strong attacks.
* Avoid using Calm Mind against teams with multiple Kyogre checks such as Ferrothorn and Primal Groudon, as it generally becomes a wasted turn. Getting chip damage on them with Ice Beam and switching out is generally ideal.
* Threats such as Ferrothorn and Primal Groudon will require some whittling down via either unboosted attacks or teammates if Kyogre wants to break them without taking too much damage.

Moves
========

Waterfall when combined with investment into Primal Kyogre's base 150 Attack stat and a boost from Primordial Sea outputs very notable damage, and strikes special walls such as Blissey in their weaker spots, landing an easy 2HKO. Waterfall also comes with a flinch chance and reliable accuracy for a STAB attack, something Origin Pulse sets lack.
* Earthquake from this set is Kyogre's best damage option against Primal Groudon, which is a large reason behind this set's viability. It deals upwards of 47% to bulky Primal Groudon variants.
* Ice Beam hits the Dragon- and Flying-types that the first two moves are unable to get good damage on such as Salamence, Rayquaza, and Zygarde.
* Thunder targets opposing Water-types such as Arceus-Water and opposing Kyogre. Without Thunder, Arceus-Water becomes a very good check to this set.

Set Details
========

* Maximum HP investment makes the best use of Primal Kyogre's bulk, allowing it to take hits so that it can output damage. It can avoid the OHKO from Primal Groudon's Precipice Blades, for example.
* Maximum Attack investment puts the power behind Waterfall and Earthquake so that they can effectively damage their targets.
* Brave nature is opted for over Adamant so that Thunder is a reliable 2HKO on Arceus-Water, and so that Ice Beam is also a reliable 2HKO on Giratina-O.
* Blue Orb is required for Primal Reversion, which is especially important for this set, as base forme Kyogre's attack stat is far too low to make use of a mixed moveset.

Usage Tips
========

* Physical Primal Kyogre plays similarly to other offensive sets, but has the option to take down Primal Groudon with Earthquake, and also hit special walls such as Blissey and Chansey much harder than special sets, as it can 2HKO them with Waterfall after Stealth Rock.
* This set is hard walled by Ferrothorn. Unlike Calm Mind that can potentially overpower a weakened Ferrothorn, physical Primal Kyogre can only deal around 30% to Ferrothorn with Earthquake at best. Avoid this matchup entirely.
* If Primal Kyogre finds a free turn to get in against Primal Groudon, take it. The loss in weather control can force Primal Groudon out into any secondary Water-type resistances on the enemy team at worst, which can be taken advantage of, or pick up a free KO at best. Be wary about how fast the enemy Primal Groudon is, however, or it may take down Kyogre first if given the chance.
* This set does shine against more defensive teams that use Primal Groudon and a special wall to cover Kyogre. Landing an Earthquake on an incoming Primal Groudon switch can put the opponent in a bad position, as Primal Kyogre is likely to KO Primal Groudon first.

Team Options
========

* Xerneas
* Primal Groudon
* Yveltal
* Mega Scizor

* Trappers are less necessary as Kyogre can hit some of its trappable checks itself with this set

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

* Scald is the ideal move for a defensive set, compensating for the lower damage output with a decent burn rate and higher PP than most of Kyogre's other STAB options.
* Rest and Sleep Talk are Kyogre's best options at staying healthy and avoiding giving free turns to the opponent.
* Ice Beam is especially important here to target physical Dragon-types such as Salamence and Rayquaza.
* Toxic is an alternative option to Ice Beam that spreads the crippling status effect onto opposing Arceus formes and Primal Groudon, making it a more effective check to them.

Set Details
========

* Maximum HP and Defense investment lets Kyogre stand up to unboosted physical attackers such as Primal Groudon and Mega Salamence.
* Blue Orb is required to become Primal Kyogre.

Usage Tips
========

* Defensive Primal Kyogre should be used more as a tank, and not an outright physical wall that can be sent into physical attackers easily. Kyogre's base 90 Defense can let it down when facing very strong physical attackers such as Choice Band Ho-Oh and Mega Lucario, even with all of the investment.
* This means that this set should be switched in when it isn't likely to take a strong attack doing so. Other defensive Pokemon are probably not going to be able to touch this set, for instance.
* Support Arceus formes are generally unable to damage this set. Neutral Judgments will only scratch, and Toxic can be cured easily with Rest. If Primal Kyogre is carrying Toxic itself, it can pose a real annoyance to teams that don't have a Ferrothorn.
* Spread status with Scald burns and Toxic to wear down the enemy team. This can leave an opening for a teammate.
* While this set is able to switch into defensive Pokemon without much fear, note that in some cases, such as when facing Blissey and Chansey, neither Kyogre or the enemy Pokemon will be able to take each other out. PP stalling them can be an option, but be wary of Kyogre's own PP.
* This set is capable of annoying Primal Groudon, but be aware that variants with substantial Attack investment will 2HKO Primal Kyogre with Precipice Blades. Assess the Primal Groudon's set first before recklessly switching into it. Mixed Rock Polish sets are unable to 2HKO Primal Kyogre without additional Stealth Rock damage, for example.

Moves
========

* Water Spout from a Choice Specs Kyogre is one of the strongest attacks in the tier, outdamaging its unboosted Primal forme by a considerable margin. It lands easy 2HKOes on Blissey and Ferrothorn, which are the typical checks to Kyogre on stall builds.
* Origin Pulse from Choice Specs Kyogre is similar in power levels to a +1 Primal Kyogre's Origin Pulse, but slightly weaker. It is still capable of landing OHKOes on maximum HP Arceus formes neutral to the move after Stealth Rock.
* Ice Beam assists in covering Dragon- and Grass-types while getting good damage on Primal Groudon.
* Thunder targets opposing Water-types that would resist the other moves on the set.

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========

===================

[OVERVIEW]

As one of the very few viable Water-type attackers in the Ubers tier, Kyogre stands out as an offensive powerhouse that Primal Groudon alone cannot hold down. Kyogre is capable of many different sets, from an all-out (think you forgot to include this?) offensive set to a physically defensive wall, and its movepool and scary attacking stats, when combined with the occasional item switch up, makes Kyogre it (you're referring to the "Movepool and physical attacking stats", which is plural, so the corresponding verb should be "make". Also, it's best to avoid repetition of the name throughout the rest of the sentence if you've already mentioned it at the start, a filler pronoun can be used.)rather unpredictable until aspects of it are revealed in battle. Kyogre also possesses excellent special bulk and usually has the freedom to invest in HP, which can make it difficult for some Ubers Pokemon to take down for some Ubers Pokemon. However, Kyogre from a teambuilding perspective, Kyogre doesn't really check anything in particular. (This sentence is grammatically correct, but it does feel very clunky due to the inclusion of multiple clauses into a single sentence. I would recommend splitting it up into two separate sentences so it becomes easier to read. For example, "In addition, Primal Groudon and other Water-resistant Pokemon can prove to be very real obstacles that stop kyogre from doing lasting work. These two factors mean that Kyogre is generally looked at as a luxury addition to a team.") Kyogre's base 90 Speed is also slow for an attacker relative to the rest of the Ubers metagame, but it does have the bulk to take some hits which can help offset its low Speed.

Moves
========

Calm Mind turns Primal Kyogre into a very strong wallbreaker, as a boosted (I'm not sure, but I think it may be helpful to mention +1 or +2?) Origin Pulse is capable of 2HKOing Ferrothorn, Blissey and Arceus-Water after Stealth Rock damage. Origin Pulse is one of Primal Kyogre's strongest attacks when boosted by Primordial Sea, as it is able to outright OHKO Pokemon such as Yveltal, as well as OHKO (the second verb is unnecessary given that you've already mentioned it in the previous clause)Xerneas and Celesteela after Stealth Rock damage. Ice Beam offers good coverage against Dragon- and Grass-types, and it is also this set's method of chipping at Primal Groudon, taking around 30% HP away from even the most specially defensive variants. Substitute helps Kyogre avoid status effects from slower defensive Pokemon, as well as avoid Ferrothorn's Leech Seed. This means that Ferrothorn sets lacking Power Whip, as well as any Chansey or Blissey sets lacking Confide, can find themselves turned into setup fodder for a Substitute set. Thunder is an alternative option to Substitute, and is Kyogre's best way to damage of damaging (Not too sure whether this is correct, but if you use a possessive with "way", you have to use "of" and "ing" after it instead of "to + infinitive") opposing Water-types such as Arceus-Water, Palkia, Toxapex, Tentacruel, and opposing Kyogre. Calm Mind-boosted Origin Pulses can break most of these Pokemon without it, however. Hidden Power Ground can be used as an alternative fourth move, offering the highest damage output against Primal Groudon, but it has no other targets. This perk alone can make it worth considering, however.

Set Details
========

Maximum HP investment makes the best use of Primal Kyogre's bulk, allowing it to take hits so that it can output damage afterwards should it need to (Although grammatically correct, "Output" is not commonly used as a verb, being more often used as a noun as in "some kind of (output)". Some recommended modifications include "so that it can maintain its damage output afterwards should it need to" or "so that it can dish out damage afterwards should it need to". ). It can avoid the OHKO from Primal Groudon's Precipice Blades, for example. When utilizing Substitute, it also allows for 101 HP Substitutes, preventing rare situations such as a Seismic Toss from breaking the Substitute the substitute from being broken in rare situations such as when the opponent uses Seismic Toss. (Strictly speaking, the situation refers to when the opponent uses Seismic Toss, not the move itself. Also, it's the move that breaks the substitute, not the situation.) Maximum Special Attack investment with a Modest nature puts a lot of power behind Primal Kyogre's attacks. A base 180 Special Attack stat combined with Primordial Sea can lead to destructive damage output. Alternatively, some HP can be taken away in favor of Speed investment, an example being such as 76 Speed EVs to outspeed 0 Speed Yveltal and Xerneas. However, most benchmarks around Kyogre's speed tier are not really worth sacrificing bulk for. Blue Orb is a necessary item for Kyogre to become Primal Kyogre.

Usage Tips
========

Instead, getting chip damage on them with Ice Beam and switching out until they are sufficiently weakened is ideal (You want to emphasise the contrast - what you should do as an alternative to using Calm Mind). Ferrothorn and Primal Groudon will require some whittling down via either unboosted attacks or teammates if Kyogre wants to break them without taking too much damage. Trying to take on a full HP Ferrothorn without Substitute is a difficult task, and this becomes even more difficult, even more so if Ferrothorn is running Power Whip (this is a subjective change, and it's not really grammatically incorrect, it just makes the sentence read more smoothly). Primal Kyogre's high special bulk means that handling some special hits isn't so bad it is capable of handling some special hits, but it can be vulnerable to taking a lot of damage from physical attacksers due to its average Defense.

Team Options
========

Xerneas is one of Primal Kyogre's best partners. Primal Kyogre takes advantage of many Steel-types that are used as Xerneas checks, and the duo combined can overwhelm Primal Groudon with unboosted attacks over the course of a match, opening up opportunities for one of the two to wreak havoc. In addition, due to Primal Kyogre coming in via U-turn after a Primal Groudon has switched in, Primordial Sea will be the active weather. (Adding "in addition" helps to link the second clause about U-turn to the previous one.) Primal Groudon also fits well alongside its Primal rival, as it is capable of handling Ferrothorn, setting Stealth Rock, and dealing with any rare Grass- and Electric-types for Primal Kyogre. Marshadow can be used as a partner to help Primal Kyogre out in the matchup against offensive teams offense, an area it struggles in against ("Offensive teams" don't fit the description of an "area" so much as "offense" does. To that end, I would recommend that you also swap the term "area" with "playstyle" for greater clarity.).

Waterfall, when combined with investment into Primal Kyogre's base 150 Attack stat and a boost from Primordial Sea, outputs produces notable damage output from an unexpected angle, and strikes special walls such as Blissey in their weaker spots defense stat, landing an easy 2HKO. Waterfall also comes with a flinch chance and reliable accuracy for a STAB attack, something special sets can lack. Earthquake from this set is Primal Kyogre's best damage option against to damage Primal Groudon (damage can't really be used as an adjective with option, you could say "damaging option against Primal Groudon"), which is another good reason behind this set's viability, as it can deal upwards of 47% to bulky Primal Groudon variants.

Set Details

Maximum HP investment makes the best use of Primal Kyogre's bulk, allowing it to take hits so that it can output damage. It can avoid the OHKO from Primal Groudon's Precipice Blades, for example. Maximum Attack investment puts the power behind Waterfall and Earthquake so that they can effectively damage their targets. Brave nature is opted for over Adamant so that Thunder is a reliable 2HKO on Arceus-Water, and also so that Ice Beam is a reliable 2HKO on Giratina-O. The speed loss isn't as detrimental, as this set preys on defensive teams, which are normally slow by nature ("as" implies a comparison, but you're not comparing the speed to anything here. As an alternative, if you want to include "as", you should also include a secondary clause at the back, e.g. "as it would be on other Kyogre sets"). Blue Orb is required for Primal Reversion, which is especially important for this set, as base forme Kyogre's attack stat is far too low to make use of such a mixed moveset.

Usage Tips
========

Unlike Calm Mind sets which can potentially overpower a weakened Ferrothorn, physical Primal Kyogre can only deal around 30% to Ferrothorn with Earthquake at best, and will take Iron Barbs damage if Ferrothorn switches into Waterfall. Avoid this matchup as much as possible. If Primal Kyogre finds a free turn to get in against Primal Groudon, take it. The loss in weather control can force Primal Groudon out into any secondary Water-type resistances on the enemy team, which can be taken advantage of. Be wary about how fast the enemy Primal Groudon is, however, or as it may take down Kyogre first if given the chance. This set does shine against more defensive teams that use Primal Groudon and a special wall to cover Kyogre (A bit of ambiguity here: "Primal Groudon as a special wall" or "Primal Groudon and another special wall"?). Landing an Earthquake on an incoming Primal Groudon switch can put the opponent in a bad position, as Primal Kyogre is likely to KO Primal Groudon first.

Team Options
========

Xerneas is a great partner to this set, and with Primal Kyogre having more power in the matchup against Primal Groudon, this can free up Xerneas to use a Choice Scarf set, which then helps Primal Kyogre in the matchup against offensive teams. Choice Scarf Xerneas can also get away with supporting Primal Kyogre further with Aromatherapy, and can even use Hidden Power Fire to lure and KO Ferrothorn (Why the use of "get away"? It seems out of place). U-turn support from Mega Scizor, Tapu Koko, Yveltal, and Landorus-T can help Primal Kyogre find free turns against its ideal targets. Yveltal can also make good use of this set's ability to weaken special walls such as Blissey and Chansey to?, and can use U-turn itself to give Primal Kyogre extra switch-in attempts (Isn't this clause effectively saying the same thing as the previous ones? I think you should move it to the front). Charm Gothitelle can make for a good partner as it can trap and remove Ferrothorn, this set's biggest annoyance.

Scald is the ideal move for a defensive set, compensating for the lower damage output with a decent burn rate and higher PP than most of Kyogre's other STAB options. Rest and Sleep Talk are Kyogre's best options at for staying healthy and avoiding giving free turns to the opponent. Ice Beam is especially important here to target physical Dragon-types such as Salamence and Rayquaza. Toxic is an alternative option to Ice Beam that spreads the crippling status effect onto opposing Arceus formes and Primal Groudon, making this set a more effective check to them.

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========

Defensive Primal Kyogre should be used more as a tank, and not an outright physical wall that can be sent into physical attackers easily. Spread status with Scald burns and Toxic to wear down the enemy team, as this can leave an opening for a teammate to sweep (The sentence feels incomplete if you just leave as "this can leave an opening for a teammate."To do what?). While this set is able to switch into defensive Pokemon without much fear, note that in some cases, such as when facing Blissey and Chansey, neither Kyogre or nor the enemy Pokemon will be able to take each other out.

========

Ferrothorn checks such as Primal Groudon, Ho-Oh, and Mega Sableye are needed with this set to prevent it from being easily neutered. Celesteela can also fit with this set to double up on physically defensive Pokemon serve as a secondary physically defensive Pokemon (etc) (double up on implies that Primal kyogre and Celesteela are ganging up to attack physically defensive Pokemon, which isn't the meaning you're trying to convey), and could fit Flamethrower onto its moveset to assist Primal Kyogre against Ferrothorn. Mega Gengar can take advantage of the status effects that this set is able to spread around the enemy team, gaining by gaining additional damage with Hex (a bit of a subjective change here, but it helps to link the two clauses together better).

Set Details
========

Maximum Special Attack and Speed EVs give a Choice Specs set the most effectiveness. Kyogre will be faster than most defensive walls with this much Speed investment. Choice Specs puts a very large boost behind Kyogre's attacks and can therefore shatter defensive teams with the extra power.

Usage Tips
========

Against teams lacking Primal Groudon, which is typically noticed on stall teams, are typically found on stall, ("Teams which are typically noticed on stall teams" doesn't make sense grammatically) aim to get Choice Specs Kyogre in safely against something it forces out and wallbreak with Water Spout. Avoid taking damage in matchups where Water Spout's full power is necessary to break some targets. Too much residual damage on Kyogre can result in it lacking the damage output needed to 2HKO Ferrothorn, Chansey, and Blissey. Against teams with Primal Groudon, it should be accepted that this set may have issues (You may wish to replace "issues" with "difficulties"; I feel that it fits the context of the sentence better) getting full power Water Spouts off. Choice Specs Origin Pulse still does a lot of damage when it is time for Water-type attacks. Aim to damage incoming Primal Groudon switches with Ice Beam; it will 3HKO any variant at worst. Be aware that Kyogre cannot be sent into Primal Groudon if given a free switch-in to reset the weather like Primal Kyogre can.(This sentence is a bit confusing, "given a free switch-in" implies that Kyogre comes in without taking any damage (e.g. after the opponent has moved), but "sending Kyogre into Primal Groudon" implies that Kyogre has to tank one of Groudon's attacks. Since your follow-up clause mentions the weather, I presume you mean that Kyogre cannot be used to change the weather; you should indicate this more clearly).Drizzle does not override Desolate Land, so Kyogre will be forced to use Ice Beam anyway. Most Pokemon around Kyogre's base 90 Speed tier tend to lack Speed investment, so it is likely that Choice Specs Kyogre will outspeed Pokemon in the same Speed tier, but it this is not guaranteed (Adding "so" links the second clause of the sentence to the first one. You could have the sentences separate, but it would make more sense to lump the two together, and they would read more smoothly. "It" is replaced with "this" as "this" is a better word for describing a situation). This set has no bulk investment, so expect any hits on Kyogre to leave a mark. It is unlikely that this set will be of much use against very offensive teams as a result.

Team Options
========

As this set's primary role is to punch holes into stall teams, Choice Specs Kyogre should be paired with partners that are either able to help with wallbreaking or cover Kyogre's weakness to offensive teams. Xerneas follows up well on Kyogre's wallbreaking, as it can use many different sets to take advantage of Pokemon such as Ferrothorn, Chansey, and Blissey being taken out. Marshadow and Celesteela are potential partners that assist Kyogre against typical Pokemon seen on offensive teams. Anything that can give Kyogre the ability to come in without taking damage in order to preserve Water Spout's power is an ideal partner (just for greater clarity, as ideal itself may be confusing), so a slow U-turn partner like Mega Scizor works well. Trappers such as Mega Gengar, Charm Gothitelle, and Dugtrio are all usable options in order to either force damage on threats for Kyogre to break past, or remove them entirely to take some pressure off it. Mega Gengar can also assist against offensive teams that Kyogre struggles with. A method to handle Primal Groudon is necessary when using Choice Specs Kyogre, as while this set is primarily aimed at punching holes into stall teams that don't typically feature a Primal Groudon, hoping for the correct matchup is too risky to have consistent success. Arceus-Ground is a good option to deal with most Primal Groudon sets, as is are other Ground-type immune Pokemon such as Mega Salamence, Yveltal, and Rayquaza.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Choice Scarf Kyogre can work in some situations, but tends to need more dedicated support to help break Primal Groudon, as it struggles to revenge kill anything due to the threat of Primal Groudon switching in for free. This requires a lot of focus from a team to try and make it work, however.

Checks and Counters
===================

However, Physical Kyogre sets are capable of dealing heavy damage to Primal Groudon with Earthquake, and repeated uses of Ice Beam from other sets can whittle down Primal Groudon's HP. (Adding "However" emphasises the point that some Kyogre sets can wear down Groudon, which is what you're trying to convey in the latter sentence.)

Mega Salamence, Rayquaza, Palkia, Zekrom, Dialga, and Arceus-Dragon are all notable examples.

**Revenge Killers**: Kyogre is left at an average base 90 Speed in either forme, leaving it open to being revenge killed by faster Pokemon in the tier, especially those that can hit target Kyogre's weaker Defense stat. Examples include Mewtwo, Marshadow, Mega Lucario, Mega Gengar, and various Arceus formes. ("Hit" connotes the physical action of striking something, which isn't very appropriate when used to refer to Kyogre's defense stat. Better filler verbs include "strike" or "target" or even "exploit"; all these convey the same meaning appropriately.)

Moves
========

* Calm Mind turns Primal Kyogre into a very strong wallbreaker, as a boosted Origin Pulse is capable of 2HKOing Ferrothorn, Blissey and Arceus-Water after Stealth Rock.
* Origin Pulse is one of Primal Kyogre's strongest attacks when boosted by Primordial Sea, as it is able to outright OHKO Pokemon such as Yveltal, as well as OHKO Xerneas and Celesteela after Stealth Rock.
* Ice Beam offers good coverage against Dragon- and Grass-types. It is also Kyogre's method of chipping at Primal Groudon, taking around 30% HP away from even the most specially defensive variants.
* Substitute can avoid status effects, as well as Ferrothorn's Leech Seed. Ferrothorn lacking Power Whip, as well as Chansey or Blissey lacking Confide can become setup fodder for a Substitute set.
* Thunder is an alternative option to Substitute, and is Kyogre's best way to damage opposing Water-types such as Arceus-Water, Palkia, Toxapex, Tentacruel, and opposing Kyogre. Calm Mind boosted Origin Pulses can break most of these Pokemon without it, however.

Set Details
========

* Blue Orb is necessary for Kyogre to become Primal Kyogre.

Usage Tips
========

Moves
========

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========

========

* Xerneas
* Primal Groudon
* Yveltal
* Mega Scizor
* Giratina-O
* Trappers are less necessary as Kyogre can hit some of its trappable checks itself with this set

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Set Details
========

* Maximum HP and Defense investment lets Kyogre stand up to unboosted physical attackers such as Primal Groudon and Mega Salamence.
* Blue Orb is required to become Primal Kyogre.

Usage Tips
========

I'm not QC, but personally I feel a spread of 252 HP / 212 Def / 44 SpD with a Bold nature should be the spread on the defensive set, or at least should get a mention. This spread ensures that you'll never be OHKOed by +2 Geomancy Xerneas's Thunder from full health, helpful if you're running Roar. The defence loss barely matters anyway; you're still 2HKOed by everything you were before.

+2 252+ SpA Xerneas Thunder vs. 252 HP / 44 SpD Kyogre-Primal: 340-402 (84.1 - 99.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

As one of the very few viable Water-type attackers in the Ubers tier and one that Primal Groudon alone cannot hold down, Kyogre stands out as an offensive powerhouse that Primal Groudon alone cannot hold down. When this is combined with the fact that Primal Groudon and other Water-resistant Pokemon such as Ferrothorn and Arceus-Water can prove to be very real obstacles that stop Kyogre from doing lasting impactful work, it means that Kyogre is generally looked at as a luxury addition to a team. Calm Mind turns Primal Kyogre into a very strong wallbreaker, as a boosted Origin Pulse is capable of 2HKOing Ferrothorn, Blissey, (comma) and Arceus-Water after Stealth Rock damage. Origin Pulse is one of Primal Kyogre's strongest attacks when boosted by Primordial Sea, as it is able to outright OHKO Pokemon such as Yveltal, (comma) as well as OHKO Xerneas and Celesteela after Stealth Rock damage. Ice Beam offers good coverage against Dragon- and Grass-types, (comma) and it is also this set's method of chipping away at Primal Groudon, taking around 30% HP away from even the most specially defensive variants. Substitute helps Kyogre avoid status effects from slower defensive Pokemon, (comma) as well as avoid Ferrothorn's Leech Seed. This means that Ferrothorn sets lacking Power Whip, as well as any Chansey or Blissey sets lacking Confide, can find themselves turned into setup fodder for a Substitute set. Thunder is an alternative option to Substitute, (comma) and is Kyogre's best way to damage opposing Water-types such as Arceus-Water, Palkia, Toxapex, Tentacruel, and opposing Kyogre. Calm Mind-boosted Origin Pulses can break through most of these Pokemon without it, however. Hidden Power Ground can be used as an alternative fourth move, offering the highest damage output against Primal Groudon, but it has no other targets. This perk alone can make it worth considering, however.

Set Details
========

Maximum HP investment makes the best use of Primal Kyogre's bulk, allowing it to take hits so that it can output damage afterwards should it need to. It can avoid the an OHKO from Primal Groudon's Precipice Blades, for example.

Usage Tips
========

Calm Mind Primal Kyogre is best used as a wallbreaker, boosting once or twice and then throwing out very strong attacks. Avoid using Calm Mind early-game against teams with multiple Kyogre checks such as Ferrothorn and Primal Groudon early in the game, as it doing so anyway is generally becomes a wasted turn. Getting chip damage on them with Ice Beam and switching out until they are sufficiently weakened is ideal. Ferrothorn and Primal Groudon will require some whittling down via either unboosted attacks or teammates if Kyogre wants to break through them without taking too much damage. Trying to take on a full HP healthy Ferrothorn without Substitute is a difficult task, and this it becomes even more difficult if Ferrothorn is running Power Whip.

========

Due to Primal Kyogre coming in via U-turn after a Primal Groudon has switched in, Primordial Sea heavy rain will be the active weather. Primal Groudon also fits well alongside its Primal rival Primal Groudon, as it is capable of handling Ferrothorn, setting Stealth Rock, and dealing with any rare Grass- and Electric-types for Primal Kyogre. Pokemon capable of trapping Primal Kyogre checks such as Mega Gengar and Gothitelle, (comma) which are capable of trapping Primal Kyogre checks, make for effective partners as well. With the right moveset, Pokemon such as Blissey, Chansey, and Ferrothorn can be trapped and eliminated by them to open up opportunities for Primal Kyogre. Marshadow can be used as a partner to help Primal Kyogre out in the matchup against offensive teams, an area it struggles in.

Waterfall, when combined with investment into Primal Kyogre's base 150 Attack stat and a boost from Primordial Sea, outputs notable damage from an unexpected angle, (comma) and strikes special walls such as Blissey in their weaker spots, landing an easy 2HKO. Waterfall also comes with a flinch chance and reliable accuracy for a STAB attack, something special sets can lack.

Set Details

Maximum HP investment makes the best use of Primal Kyogre's bulk, allowing it to take hits so that it can output damage. It can avoid the an OHKO from Primal Groudon's Precipice Blades, for example. Maximum Attack investment puts the power behind Waterfall and Earthquake so that they can effectively damage their targets. A Brave nature is opted for over Adamant so that Thunder is a reliable 2HKO on Arceus-Water, (comma) and also so that Ice Beam is a reliable 2HKO on Giratina-O. The Speed loss isn't as detrimental, as this set preys on defensive teams, which are normally slow by nature. Blue Orb is required for Primal Reversion, which is especially important for this set, as base forme Kyogre's Attack stat is far too low to make use of such a mixed physical moveset.

Usage Tips
========

Physical Primal Kyogre plays similarly to other offensive sets, but it comes with the option to deal heavy damage to Primal Groudon with Earthquake, (comma) and also hit special walls such as Blissey and Chansey much harder than special sets, as it can 2HKO them with Waterfall after Stealth Rock. Note that this set is hard walled by Ferrothorn. Unlike Calm Mind sets, (comma) which can potentially overpower a weakened Ferrothorn, physical Primal Kyogre can only deal around 30% to Ferrothorn with Earthquake at best, (comma) and will take Iron Barbs damage if Ferrothorn switches into Waterfall. Avoid this matchup as much as possible. If Primal Kyogre finds a free turn to get in against Primal Groudon, take it. The loss in weather control can force Primal Groudon out into any secondary Water-type resistances on the enemy team Water-resistant Pokemon, which can be taken advantage of. Be wary about how fast the enemy Primal Groudon is, however, or it may take down Kyogre first if given the chance. This set does shines against more defensive teams that use Primal Groudon and a special wall to cover Kyogre. Landing an Earthquake on an incoming Primal Groudon switch can put the opponent in a bad position, as Primal Kyogre is likely to KO Primal Groudon first.

Xerneas is a great partner to this set, and with Primal Kyogre having more power in the a better matchup against Primal Groudon, this can free up Xerneas is freed up to use a Choice Scarf set, which then helps Primal Kyogre in the matchup against offensive teams. Charm Gothitelle can make for a good partner, (comma) as it can trap and remove Ferrothorn, this set's biggest annoyance.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Scald is the ideal move for a defensive set, compensating for the lower damage output with a decent burn rate and higher PP than most of Kyogre's other STAB options. Rest and Sleep Talk are Kyogre's best options at for staying healthy and avoiding giving free turns to the opponent. Having Ice Beam is especially important here to target physical Dragon-types such as Salamence and Rayquaza. Toxic is an alternative option to Ice Beam that spreads the crippling status effect onto opposing Arceus formes and Primal Groudon, making this set a more effective check to them.

Set Details
========

Maximum HP and Defense investment helps Kyogre stand up to unboosted physical attackers such as Primal Groudon and Mega Salamence, (comma) while also reducing attacks from Pokemon such as Zygarde-C to very little negligible. Blue Orb is required to become Primal Kyogre, (comma) and is used over another item such as Leftovers due to the extra special bulk Primal Kyogre has, (comma) as well as the ability to better check Primal Groudon thanks to Primordial Sea changing the weather to a favorable matchup.

Usage Tips
========

Defensive Primal Kyogre should be used more as a tank, and not an outright physical wall that can be sent into physical attackers easily. Spread status with Scald burns and Toxic to wear down the enemy opposing team, as this can leave an opening for a teammate. While this set is able to switch into defensive Pokemon without much fear, note that in some cases, such as when facing Blissey and or Chansey, neither Kyogre nor the enemy Pokemon foe will be able to take each the other out. PP stalling them can be an option, but be wary keep track of Kyogre's own PP when doing so.

========

Mega Gengar can take advantage of the status effects that this set is able to spread around the enemy opponent's team, gaining additional damage with Hex. This assists Mega Gengar in trapping and removing threats. Xerneas and other Fairy-types such as Mega Diancie and Arceus-Fairy appreciate Primal Kyogre's ability to annoy Primal Groudon and deal with most Steel-type checks as well to them. Arceus-Grass works well with this set due to its ability to deal with Ferrothorn. Zygarde-C is also a physical wall that can pair with Kyogre to cover additional threats, (comma) and more reliably deal with Ho-Oh. Unlike Zygarde-C, this Primal Kyogre set can make for a good check to mixed Rock Polish Primal Groudon, so this duo can cover quite a lot of Primal Groudon variants.

Moves
========

It is still capable of landing OHKOes on OHKOing maximum HP Arceus formes neutral to the move it after Stealth Rock. Ice Beam assists in covering Dragon- and Grass-types while getting good damage on Primal Groudon. Thunder targets opposing Water-types that would resist the other moves on the set. Hidden Power Ground can be used over Thunder to 2HKO any variant of Primal Groudon, which can help it Kyogre do more in offensive matchups against offensive teams.

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========

Against teams lacking Primal Groudon, which is typically noticed on the case for stall teams, aim to get Choice Specs Kyogre in safely against something it forces out and to wallbreak with Water Spout. Avoid taking damage in matchups where Water Spout's full power is necessary to break some targets. Too much residual damage on Kyogre can result in it lacking the damage needed to 2HKO Ferrothorn, Chansey, and Blissey. Against teams with Primal Groudon, it should be accepted that this set may have issues getting full-(hyphen)power Water Spouts off. Choice Specs Origin Pulse still does a lot of damage when it is time for Water-type attacks. Aim to damage incoming Primal Groudon switches with Ice Beam; it will 3HKO any variant at worst. Be aware that Kyogre cannot should not be sent into Primal Groudon if given a free switchin like Primal Kyogre can.; (semi) Drizzle does not override Desolate Land, so Kyogre will be forced to use Ice Beam anyway.

========

Anything that can give Kyogre the ability to come in without taking damage in order to preserve Water Spout's power is ideal, so a slow U-turn partner like Mega Scizor works well. Trappers such as Mega Gengar, Charm Gothitelle, and Dugtrio are all usable options in order to either force damage on threats for Kyogre to break past, (comma) or remove them entirely to take some pressure off it. Arceus-Ground is a good option to deal with most Primal Groudon sets, as is are other Ground-type immune Pokemon such as Mega Salamence, Yveltal, and Rayquaza.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Choice Scarf Kyogre can work in some situations, but tends to need more dedicated support to help break through Primal Groudon, as it struggles to revenge kill anything due to the threat of Primal Groudon switching in for free. This requires a lot of focus from a team to try and make it being the focus of a team to work, however.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Primal Groudon**: While Primal Groudon is vulnerable to being worn down by Kyogre and its teammates over the course of a match, it still forces any Kyogre variant to hesitate before clicking its Water STAB using a Water-type attack in fear of Primal Groudon switching in for free. Primal Groudon can strike Kyogre's weaker Defense stat for heavy damage with Precipice Blades, (comma) while also being neutral to Ice Beam and immune to Thunder. Physical Kyogre sets are capable of dealing heavy damage to Primal Groudon with Earthquake, and repeated uses of Ice Beam from other sets can whittle down Primal Groudon's HP.

**Ferrothorn**: Ferrothorn is able to switch into most Kyogre sets courtesy of its typing and beat it one on one one-on-one by stalling it out with Leech Seed.

**Water-types**: Arceus-Water, Toxapex, and opposing Primal Kyogre can make use of their typing to pivot into Kyogre, (comma) before switching back to a potential Primal Groudon to regain weather control. Thunder will 2HKO these Pokemon, however.

**Dragon-types**: While many of (if there's one that isn't, I can't think of it) Ubers's Dragon-types are either weak or neutral to Ice, they can still make use of their movepools and resistance to Water-type attacks to get damage on Kyogre and potentially take it down. Mega Salamence, Rayquaza, Palkia, Zekrom, Dialga, and Arceus-Dragon are all notable examples.

**Revenge Killers**: Kyogre is left at an average base 90 Speed in either forme, leaving it open to being revenge killed by faster Pokemon in the tier, especially those that can hit exploit Kyogre's weaker Defense stat. Examples include Mewtwo, Marshadow, Mega Lucario, Mega Gengar, and various Arceus formes.

Cheers for the check, this should be ready for the second. Due to studying I couldn't get around to addressing the second am GP check before the actual one came along, but see if an actual GP member can give you some feedback on it to avoid it being a waste of your time!

RE: the suggested defensive spread - it may have a small use, but in practice this situation will happen very rarely. Dropping EVs does affect some percentage chances (raising them from very low to low, but still) from attacks like Mixed RP Primal Groudon and +1 Mega Salamence after SR. The reasoning of it being useful with Roar isn't enough to be convincing (I discussed it with other QC), considering that Roar isn't mentioned anywhere on the analysis. If anywhere, it would probably best fit a SpD set, but that's in OO anyway.

[OVERVIEW]

As one of the very few viable Water-type attackers in the Ubers tier and especially being one that Primal Groudon alone cannot hold down, Kyogre stands out as an offensive powerhouse.

Moves
========

Set Details
========

Maximum HP investment makes the best use of Primal Kyogre's bulk, allowing it to take hits so that it can output damage afterwards. It can avoid an OHKO from Primal Groudon's Precipice Blades, for example. When utilizing Substitute, it also allows for 101 HP Substitutes, preventing rare situations such as a Seismic Toss breaking the Substitute. Blue Orb is a necessary item for Kyogre to become Primal Kyogre.

Usage Tips
========

========

Due to Primal Kyogre coming in via U-turn after a Primal Groudon has switched in, heavy rain will be the active weather. With the right moveset, Pokemon such as Blissey, Chansey, and Ferrothorn can be trapped and eliminated by them to open up opportunities for Primal Kyogre. Marshadow can be used as a partner to help Primal Kyogre out against offensive teams, an area it struggles in.

As this set's primary role is to punch holes into stall teams, Choice Specs Kyogre should be paired with partners that are either able to help with wallbreaking or cover Kyogre's weakness to offensive teams. Xerneas follows up well on Kyogre's wallbreaking, as it can use many different sets to take advantage of the fact that Pokemon such as Ferrothorn, Chansey, and Blissey have beingen taken out. Trappers such as Mega Gengar, Charm Gothitelle, and Dugtrio are all usable options in order to either force damage on potential threats forso that Kyogre tocan later break past them or remove them entirely to take some pressure off it. Mega Gengar can also assist against offensive teams that Kyogre struggles with. (Elaborate) A method to handle Primal Groudon is necessary when using Choice Specs Kyogre, as while this set is primarily aimed at punching into stall teams that don't typically feature a Primal Groudon, hoping for the correct matchup is too risky to have consistent success. Arceus-Ground is a good option to deal with most Primal Groudon sets, as are other (Arceus-Ground isn't immune to Ground) Ground-type immune Pokemon such as Mega Salamence, Yveltal, and Rayquaza.

Choice Scarf Kyogre can work in some situations, but it tends to need more dedicated support to help break through Primal Groudon, as it struggles to revenge kill anything due to the threat of Primal Groudon switching in for free. A specially defensive set is a possibility for Primal Kyogre, making it much better at handling support Arceus formes, Yveltal, and even Geomancy Xerneas in a pinch, but such a set struggles with fitting everything it wants into its moveslots (what would it want to fit?). Blizzard combined with Calm Mind and Icium Z is a niche option for base forme Kyogre, with the intention toas it can lure in Primal Groudon and take it out with a boosted Subzero Slammer. This requires being the focus of a team to work, however.
Checks and Counters
===================

**Primal Groudon**: While Primal Groudon is vulnerable to being worn down by Kyogre and its teammates over the course of a match, it still forces any Kyogre variant to hesitate before using any Water-type attacks (it gets more than one opportunity to attack, you know) in fear of Primal Groudon switching in for free. Primal Groudon can strike Kyogre for heavy damage with Precipice Blades while also being neutral to Ice Beam and immune to Thunder.

However, Rest variants of Kyogre turn the matchup into a stalemate, with the winner determined by PP stalling.

**Water-types**: Arceus-Water, Toxapex, and opposing Primal Kyogre can make use of their typing to pivot into Kyogre before switching back to a potential Primal Groudon to regain weather control. Thunder will 2HKO these Pokemon, however.

**Dragon-types**: While Ubers's Dragon-types (this applies to all of them) are either weak or neutral to Ice, they can still make use of their movepools and resistances to Water-type attacks to get damage on Kyogre and potentially take it down.

(bit of a tautology to say that it's unpredictable till its set is revealed) Kyogre also possesses excellent special bulk and usually has the freedom to invest in HP, which can make it difficult to take down for some Pokemon.

Moves
========

Set Details
========

Maximum HP investment makes the best use of Primal Kyogre's bulk, allowing it to take hits so that it can output damage afterwards. It can avoid an OHKO from Primal Groudon's Precipice Blades, for example. When Kyogre is utilizing Substitute, it the HP investment also allows for 101 HP Substitutes, preventing rare situations such as a Seismic Toss breaking the Substitute. (maybe move closer to discussion of HP investment?) However, most benchmarks around Kyogre's Speed tier are not really worth sacrificing bulk for. Blue Orb is a the necessary item for Kyogre to become Primal Kyogre.

Usage Tips
========

Avoid taking (awkward word choice in this context, choose another word) this fight whenever possible. Note that while Kyogre's coverage options cover a lot of targets, some Water-resistant threats such as Dialga actually take more damage from a resisted Origin Pulse than a neutral Ice Beam. Pokemon such as Support Arceus formes can make for potential targets foes to use Calm Mind against, (or a similar word: "targets" implies to some extent that Calm Mind is targeting them) but it this (no real antecedent of "it") will rarely be done for free, as Kyogre may take a Toxic or an attack from the faster variants of these Arceus formes first. (they all have the same base speed) Other relatively passive Pokemon such as some Steel-types and Zygarde-C can be overpowered very easily even by an unboosted Primal Kyogre, which can open up Calm Mind opportunities if Primal Kyogre forces them out. Keep in mind that this set is relatively slow, so expect almost all offensive Pokemon to be able to outspeed Kyogre and land a hit on it before it can move. first. (optional) Primal Kyogre's high special bulk means that handling some special hits isn't so bad, but it can be vulnerable to taking a lot of damage from physical attackers due to its average Defense.

Team Options
========

Due to If Primal Kyogre coming comes (Primal Groudon is mentioned as one of several examples) in via U-turn after a Primal Groudon has switched in, heavy rain will be the active weather. With the right moveset, they can trap and eliminate ("they" is what "with the right moveset" refers to, right?) Pokemon such as Blissey, Chansey, and Ferrothorn can be trapped and eliminated by them to open up opportunities for Primal Kyogre. Marshadow can be used as a partner to help Primal Kyogre out against offensive teams, an area it struggles in.

Moves

Waterfall, when combined with investment into Primal Kyogre's base 150 Attack stat and a boost from Primordial Sea, outputs notable damage from an unexpected angle and strikes special walls such as Blissey in their weaker spots, landing an easy 2HKO. Waterfall also comes with a flinch chance and reliable accuracy for a STAB attack, something special sets can lack. Earthquake from this set is Primal Kyogre's is this set's best damage option against Primal Groudon and can deal upwards of 47% to bulky Primal Groudon variants, which is another good reason behind this set's viability, as it can deal upwards of 47% to bulky Primal Groudon variants. (there are multiple clauses you're attributing the viability to due to "as", which can be confusing) Ice Beam hits the Dragon- and Flying-types that the first two moves are unable to get good damage on such as Salamence, Rayquaza, and Zygarde. Thunder targets opposing Water-types such as Arceus-Water and Kyogre, as without Thunder, Arceus-Water in particular would become a very good check to this set.

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========

========

Xerneas is a great partner to this set, and with Primal Kyogre having a better matchup against Primal Groudon, Xerneas is freed up to use a Choice Scarf set, which helps Primal Kyogre against offensive teams. Choice Scarf Xerneas can get away with supporting Primal Kyogre further with Aromatherapy, (remove comma) and can even use Hidden Power Fire to lure and KO Ferrothorn.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Set Details
========

Maximum HP and Defense investment helps Kyogre stand up to unboosted physical attackers such as Primal Groudon and Mega Salamence while also reducing the damage attacks from Pokemon such as Zygarde-C to negligible. ("reducing attacks to negligible" is valid but somewhat awkward) Blue Orb is required to become Primal Kyogre and is used over another item such as Leftovers due to the extra special bulk Primal Kyogre has as well as the ability to better check Primal Groudon thanks to Primordial Sea.

Usage Tips
========

Defensive Primal Kyogre should be used more as a tank, and not than as an outright physical wall that can be sent into physical attackers easily. Support Arceus formes are generally unable to damage this set. (optional but this is essentially saying the same as the last sentence, so I combined the two) A neutral Judgment will only scratch Kyogre, and Toxic can be cured easily with Rest. PP stalling them these Pokemon can be an option, but keep track of Kyogre's own PP when doing so.

========

Ferrothorn checks such as Primal Groudon, Ho-Oh, and Mega Sableye are needed with this set to prevent it from being easily neutered. Celesteela can also fit with this set to double up on physically defensive Pokemon, (remove comma) and could can fit Flamethrower onto its moveset to assist Primal Kyogre against Ferrothorn.

Moves
========

Origin Pulse from Choice Specs Kyogre is similar in power to a +1 Primal Kyogre's Origin Pulse, (remove comma) but slightly weaker. It is still capable of OHKOing maximum HP Arceus formes neutral to it after Stealth Rock. Ice Beam assists in covering Dragon- and Grass-types while getting good damage on Primal Groudon. Thunder targets opposing Water-types that resist the other moves on the set. Hidden Power Ground can be used over Thunder to 2HKO any variant of Primal Groudon, which can help Kyogre help it do more against offensive teams.

Set Details
========

Maximum Special Attack and Speed EVs give a Choice Specs set the most effectiveness. Kyogre will be faster than most defensive walls with this much Speed investment. Choice Specs puts a very large boost behind Kyogre's attacks and can lets it therefore shatter defensive teams.

Usage Tips
========

Against teams lacking Primal Groudon, which is typically the case for stall teams, aim to get Choice Specs Kyogre in safely against something it forces out in order to wallbreak with Water Spout. Avoid taking damage in matchups where Water Spout's full power is necessary to break some targets. Too much residual damage on Kyogre can result in it Water Spout lacking the damage needed to 2HKO Ferrothorn, Chansey, and Blissey. Most Pokemon around Kyogre's base 90 Speed tier tend to lack Speed investment, so it is likely but not guaranteed that Choice Specs Kyogre will outspeed Pokemon in the same Speed tier, but it is not guaranteed. This set has no bulk investment, so expect any hits on Kyogre to leave a mark. It is unlikely that this set will be of much use against very offensive teams as a result.

Team Options
========

As this set's primary role is to punch holes into stall teams, Choice Specs Kyogre should be paired with partners that are able to either able to help with wallbreaking or cover Kyogre's weakness to offensive teams. Xerneas follows up well on Kyogre's wallbreaking, as it can use many different sets to take advantage of Kyogre taking out Pokemon such as Ferrothorn, Chansey, and Blissey being taken out. (these changes for clarity. consider a different word over "taking"/"taken" because of the repetition with "take advantage of") Marshadow and Celesteela are potential partners that assist Kyogre against typical Pokemon seen on offensive teams. Arceus-Ground is a good option to deal with most Primal Groudon sets, as are other Ground-type immune Pokemon such as Mega Salamence, Yveltal, and Rayquaza.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Primal Groudon**: While Primal Groudon is vulnerable to being worn down by Kyogre and its teammates over the course of a match, it still forces any Kyogre variant to hesitate before using a Water-type attack in for fear of Primal Groudon switching in for free. Primal Groudon can strike Kyogre for heavy damage with Precipice Blades while also being and is neutral to Ice Beam and immune to Thunder. ("while being" clause doesn't seem to fit for an innate, typing-based characteristic) Physical Kyogre sets are capable of dealing heavy damage to Primal Groudon with Earthquake, and repeated uses of Ice Beam from other sets can whittle down Primal Groudon's HP.

I implemented the GP check, thanks. I assume that was actually 2/2 and not 1/2?

As for the comments:

I'm not sure if its really a tautology with that line in the Overview. My intention was to convey that until you see Kyogre switch in, you have no real idea if its even the Primal forme (team preview can help guess, but only experienced players will be able to do this which analyses aren't aimed at) let alone a physical or special attacking set, which means the player has to see it do something to tell what set it is. Once you see Waterfall, you can assume it has Earthquake. Once you see Scald, its likely to be defensive - therefore the unpredictability of what its doing goes away.

Moving the notes of removing HP for Speed closer to the HP notes means I'd have to change the structure of the paragraph for it to not read terribly, and as this is the 2nd GP check I didn't want to rewrite anything. The same applies to adding what moves a SpD set would use in OO.

Otherwise, this is done!
