- Will-O-Wisp / Thunder Wave

[SET COMMENTS]
Thanks to its great bulk, unique typing, excellent Status moves, and phenomenal ability in Levitate, Rotom-W finds itself as one of the best bulky defensive pivots in the entirety of the National Dex OU metagame. Volt Switch allows Rotom-W to switch out of unfavorable matchups like Ogerpon-W and Ferrothorn, both which would otherwise OHKO or take advantage of it, damage any non-Ground, Lightning Rod, or Volt Absorb Pokemon, and keeps momentum for the balance teams that it’s found on most of the time while also bringing in a teammate or an appropriate check. With access to Hydro Pump, boosted by STAB, Rotom-W can hit if not KO opposing pivots and wall Pokemon that despise Water-type moves such as Gliscor, Landorus-T, and Garganacl, as well as specially defensive weak Pokemon such as Great Tusk and Iron Boulder instantly, making it very hard for them to set up or even come in while Rotom-W is still out on the field. Pain Split is another great move to have on Rotom-W, as it can help it to remain healthy if under any circumstances its Leftovers gets removed via Knock Off, that way, it can preserve while also punishing the attacker. Will-O-Wisp and Thunder Wave are both very good Status moves to have on Rotom-W. Will-o-Wisp can deny any recovery from Leftovers and Thunder Wave weaken and slow down numerous checks towards Rotom-W such as Aegislash, Zamazenta, and Celesteela, making their jobs much harder and granting them less time to either set up on or attack Rotom-W before getting knocked out. Tera Steel let’s Rotom-W gain more resistance towards Fairy-type Pokemon such as Tapu Lele and immunity from Toxic and Poison-type moves, while gaining a Fighting and Fire weakness as a cost, while Tera Fairy let’s Rotom-W become immune to Dragon-Types who would other wise resist it and it’s STAB moves. Enamorus, Magnezone, and Skarmory can help Rotom-W deal with Dragons such as Choice Band Dragonite, Raging Bolt, and opposing Gouging Fire, as well as Grass-type walls like Ferrothorn and Mega Venusaur that Rotom-W cannot break. Gliscor and Landorus-T provide entry hazard as well as form a VoltTurn core with Rotom-W. Tapu Lele and Iron Valiant break even the bulkiest of walls such as Toxapex, Ting-Lu, and Garganacl, so that Rotom-W can have a much easy time bringing in wallbreakers with Volt Switch, such as Excadrill and Mega Latias, and pivot itself and it’s teammates in and out when
necessary.

Thanks to its great bulk, unique typing, excellent Status moves, and phenomenal ability in Levitate, Rotom-W finds itself as one of the best bulky defensive pivots in the entirety of the National Dex OU metagame. It is able to change the pace of the game in a blink of an eye for nearly every team that it’s on. Volt Switch is Rotom-W’s most important move to have, as it allows Rotom-W to switch out of unfavorable matchups like Ogerpon-W and Ferrothorn, which would otherwise 2HKO it OHKO or take advantage of it, and damage any non-Ground, Lightning Rod, or Volt Absorb Pokemon while also bringing in either a teammate or an appropriate check. (mention that it keeps momentum for the balance teams that is usually found on) With access to Hydro Pump, boosted by STAB, Rotom-W can hit if not KO opposing pivots and wall Pokemon that despise Water-type moves such as Gliscor, Landorus-T, Excadrill, and Garganacl, as well as specially defensive weak Pokemon such as Great Tusk, Iron Boulder, and Corviknight (you just volt on this?) instantly, making it very hard for them to set up or even come in while Rotom-W is still out on the field. Pain Split is another great move to have on Rotom-W, as it can make it easier for it to KO frailer physical attackers such as Mega Lopunny, Urshifu-R, and Iron Valiant, as well as weakening bulky stall Pokemon such as Toxapex, Galarian Slowking, and Alomomola, forcing them to either repeatedly use their recovery moves to stay healthy or switch out to a Pokemon to check or threaten Rotom-W instead. (Pain Split is not an offensive option, emphasize its defensive utility in keeping Rotom-W healthy due to its lack of recovery) Will-O-Wisp and Thunder Wave are both very good Status moves to have on Rotom-W, as they can weaken and slow down numerous checks towards Rotom-W, notably the aforementioned (Mega Lop always U-turns, Tusk is not staying in and can't be paralyzed by T-Wave, add 1 or 2 different examples) Mega Lopunny, Zamazenta, and Great Tusk, making their jobs much harder and granting them less time to either set up on or attack Rotom-W before getting knocked out. (Will-o-Wisp also denies recovery from stuff that relies on Leftovers, while Thunder Wave allows ) Tera Steel let’s Rotom gain more resistance, while gaining a Fighting and Fire weakness as a cost, while Tera Fairy let’s Rotom-W become immune to Dragon-Types who would other wise resist it and it’s STAB moves. (specifically, Tera Steel allows Rotom-W to take on Fairy-types like Tapu Lele as well as provides a Toxic immunity) Mega Garchomp and Gouging Fire can help Rotom-W deal with Dragons such as Choice Band Dragonite, Raging Bolt, and opposing Gouging Fire, as well as Grass-type walls like Ferrothorn that Rotom-W cannot break. (Mega Garchomp is C- tier and Gouging Fire does not usually run a Dragon move. Use Fairy- or Steel-types here) Gliscor and Landorus-T provide entry hazard as well as form a VoltTurn core with Rotom-W provide additional pivot while either keeping themselves healthy or chipping foes. Mega Lopunny, Tapu Lele, and Iron Valiant break even the bulkiest of walls such as Toxapex and Garganacl (neither of these wants to sponge a Volt / Hydro, also Mega Lopunny can't force progress on Pex), so that Rotom-W can take care of its own checks while weakening theirs in return. (please clarify how exactly breaking through bulky walls benefits Rotom-W)

This analysis doesn't have any mention of Rotom-W bringing in threats or acting as a pivot, which is its main niche. Please include examples of checks to Rotom-W that can be Volt Switched on to bring in wallbreakers.

Hi, following some discussion amongst the QC team, we've decided to QC reject this analysis.

The set used here deviates from the on-site sample set, which is the one that should be used unless there are major discrepancies that need to be changed (in which case you can contact a mod for discussion / clarification). The initial content and the edits made after DBD's QC check were also poor; there are mentions of numerous Pokemon that are largely extremely niche (Enamorus, Celesteela (which doesn't check Rotom-W?), Aegislash, etc), unviable sets like Choice Band Dragonite, and constant mentions of Rotom-W needing to "break" things when it's just a pivot. It's job is to bring in wallbreakers, which isn't highlighted at all as its main draw, while checking important threats like Heatran (which was also never given a single mention).

While not most of the content is strictly bad, there is a clear lack of understanding being portrayed here that I think it's important you learn the metagame before writing any further analyses.
