Clefable (0/3)

[OVERVIEW]

  • Has a myriad of potential support moves like Aromatherapy and Wish, which can aid teammates and serve as a fantastic cleric.
  • Being gifted with the ability Unaware, in a set-up heavy metagame it can switch in more comfortably against threats such as Calm Mind Lunala and Calm Mind Arceus.
  • Thanks to its Fairy-typing alongside it's respectable bulk, it can check many prominent Dark-types to the likes of; Arceus-Dark and Yvetal, but falls short to Alolan-Muk which can hammer it with its STAB-Poison attacks.
  • Due to it's lack of offensive presence, many Fairy-resistances like; Mega-Gengar, Ho-Oh, Primal-Groudon, Solgaleo, Mega-Metagross, and Aegislash can switch in and wall it or just shut down Clefable entirely.
  • Although it does have admirable bulk and a good defensive typing, strong attackers can easily overwhelm and break through Clefable with brute strength thanks to its somewhat lacklustre bulk for the Ubers tier. Examples of these would be; Alolan-Muk, Primal-Groudon, Rayquaza, Mega-Gengar, Primal-Kyogre, Deoxys-Attacks and Mega-Mewtwo Y.
  • Specially Defensive Pokemon can come it freely against Clefable due to its lack of offensive presence and easily overwhelm it with their super effective STAB-attacks or just sheer power such as; Alolan-Muk, Primal-Kyogre, Ho-Oh, Celesteela, Dialga and Ferrothorn.

Moves
========
  • Aromatherapy is staple on Clefable as a cleric, being able to cure its teammates of status ailments which could otherwise hinder their capabilities.
  • Wish is te best form of reliable recovery that Unaware Clefable has, the other being Moonlight which only has minimal 8pp as opposed to Wish which has 16. Wissh passing is also key in its role as a cleric, allowing it to pass health to weakened allies or any team-members.
  • Moonblast is Clefable's strongest and most spammable STAB-move. Being able to stay in comfortable against threats like Yvetal and fire back with a super-effective Moonblast.
  • Protect can be used to gain more leftovers recovery as well as being able to stall out the Wish timer. Additionally, Protect can be used to scout potentially scout hidden moves to specifically counter Clefable or Fairy-types.

Set Details
========
  • Unaware is one of the best abilities to have in the Ubers tier, due to the fact that there are so many threatening set-up sweepers, Clefable finds a niche in the tier being switch in freely against certain Pokemon.
  • 216 HP / 80 Def / 212 SpD is the EV spread used to try and achieve the most efficient spread to maximise Clef's overall bulk.
  • 216 HP allows Clef to gain the most amount of leftovers recovery, although it may seem extremely insignificant, if Wish + Protect are in use then it's always good to gain as much health as possible.
  • 80 Defensive EVs are in place to try and take care of Swords Dance Arceus better, being able to stall out Arceus' extreme Speed only having 8pp.
  • The rest of the EVs are in place to maximise its Defences in the most efficient fashion.
  • Or alternatively, 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD could be ran to check Special Sweeprs more efficiently, namely; Lunala and Arceus.

Usage Tips
========
  • With having access to a plethora of excellent support moves to assist fellow teammates, Clefable's true capabilities tend to shine on either stall or balanced teams. Being able to pass health to teammates or heal them of Status ailments.
  • Clefabe can be brought out against some of the top tier threats thanks to it's great typing or ability Unaware, Clefable can switch in pretty comfortably against some top tier threats, namely; Yvetal, Arceus-Dark and Lunala.
  • Toxis great for putting set-up sweepers on a timer, as well as that Toxic can be used on an expected switch out into Pokemon such as; Primal-Groudon, Ho-Oh, Primal-Kyogre or Arceus' lacking Refresh.
  • Moonblast is great for chipping away at opposing foes or switch ins, but don't expect Clefables damage output to be great to neutral foes, considering how pitifully weak its Special Attack stat is.

Team Options
========
  • Due to Clefable being inherently weak to strong Physical attackers, namely; Mega-Lucario, Primal-Groudon, Rayquaza, Mega-Metagross, Solgaleo. Physically Defensive Arceus-Ground, Bulky Ho-Oh and Zygarde are great teammates for Clefable. Being able to take the majority of their moves and hitting them back with their STAB-attacks respectively, which can serve a great favour in Clefable's role.
  • Arceus-Ground can also take on strong Physical attackers as well as Poison-types to the likes of; Mega-Genagr, Alolan-Muk, Primal-Groudon and Rayquaza hitting them super effectively with the correct STAB-moves coverage attacks. It can also fit well on stall archetypes due to Stealth Rocks and Defog.
  • Lugia is a great partner for Clefable as it is able to absorb physical hits and retaliate with Toxic or phaze out opponents with Whirlwind. Defog also aids its viability as a partner. Additionally, Whirlwind support enabes Lugia to phaze out strong Physical-Attackers and Geomancy Xerneas thanks to Multiscale.
  • Both Giratina-Forms can serve as great teammates, being able to switch in freely against fire types like Primal-Groudon and Defog against them or proceed to cripple it with Toxic.
  • Primal-Groudon and Ho-Oh are also notable partners for Clefable, being able to overwhelm Steel-types and Poison-types, and can take care of Mega-Genagr if Clefable weren't to be trapped.
  • Additionally, bulky Water-types work well with Clefable; Tentacruel has the ability to remove hazards from the field and provide Toxic Spikes support, Primal-Kyogre can overwhelm Fire-types with its STAB-attacks, however Primal-Kyogre can't switch in freely against Ho-Oh being 2HKO by Brave Bird.

Other Options
=============
  • Toxic is one of Clefable's best way of chipping away at opponents. Wish + Protect + Toxic will always be a fantastic way of wearing down opponents easily while regaining health from Wish.
  • Knock Off is never a bad choice for Clefable, enabling it to remove the opponent's item can sometimes cripple their niche, but is generally a bit of a wasted slot. Knock Off is also a feasible option for Calm Mind Lunala, being able to switch in with ease thanks to Unaware and hitting it with a 4x super-effective attack.
  • As mentioned earlier, it's options are near endless. Many different sets could be ran with it such as; Dual Screens support, Seismic Toss + Soft Boiled, Trick, Magic Coat, Healing Wish support and Thunder Wave but are all typically underwhelming or outclassed by other Pokemon.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Poison-Types**: Alongside Steel-Types, Poison-types can easily come in against Clefable and hard wall it, resisting its STAB-attacks and being immune to Toxic, they can come in effortlessly against it such as; Alolan Muk, Mega-Gengar and Arceus-Poison.

**Fire-Types**: Clefable struggles immensely against common Fire-Types such as Ho-Oh and Primal-Groudon, two of them resisting its already feeble Fairy-attacks and being able to overwhelm Clefable with their STAB-attacks.

**Strong Attackers**: Clefable just doesn't have the bulk necessary to take hard blows from strong attackers, namely strong attackers to the likes of; Rayquaza, Mega-Metagross, Mega-Lucario, Choice Specs Xerneas, Kyurem-W, Primal-Kyogre, Deoxys-Attack and Mega-Mewtwo Y

**Primal-Kyogre**: Primal-Kyogre is one of the few special attackers that Clefable can't handle, bearing astronomical Special Defence and having STAB Origin Pulse boosted by rain is far too overwhelming for Clefable.

**Taunt**: Common Taunt users such as Mega-Gengar and Tapu Koko can render Clefable useless as a cleric, losing the ability to abuse Wish and Aromatherapy.

I'm gonna reject this because it clearly seems like lack experience with the mon/ubers.

Examples being np darkrai/gene mentions in overview and nothing about gengar or muk.

Usage tips are too barren and seems to try to make of for the lack of content by using more words (it isn't miraculous to switch into xern when you take ≈50 %)

since the best clefable teams are tenta/clef/gira/lugia/groundceus/ho-oh and muk/groundceus/lugia/gira/ferro/clef your team options are way off. You mention random offensive pkmn which have no business being used with clefable.

I need to see a better elaboration as to why this particular EV spread is the best one in the current metagame. If you cannot adequately explain why the spread you ultimately provide on this analysis is the best one, then obviously you can't be sure that it is.

It is up to you as the writer to present and develop (if you don't know what the best spread is) the EV spread. If you are unable to do this then you shouldn't be writing the analysis.

i feel as if it's changed quite a bit since all the way back in may, i'll change stuff up n i'll let u know when it's done

A lack of activity combined with the majority feeling from the QC team that Clefable is no longer viable means that this analysis will be ditched. It's easier for both parties this way anyway.
