[Balanced Hackmons] Mewtwo-Mega-X [QC: 1/3][GP: 0/2]

morogrim

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

[OVERVIEW]

. Strongest physical attacker in the metagame, also has one of the highest base Speeds to go with it
. Not the best offensive typing, only Fighting is good, Psychic is bad
. Bad defensive typing, easily revenge killed by the common -ates (Pixilate and Aerilate)
. Due to decent SpA, can run a mixed set to break through a majority of the meta's walls
. Faces competition from Mega Rayquaza and Mega Diancie in terms of being a mixed attacker, Mega Mewtwo X has the advantage of superior Speed while the other two have better offensive typing (Mega Ray has better overall stats as well)
. The standard sets it has are very predictable, but it can also run niche uncommon sets such as Illusion, No Guard, and Sheer Force/Tough Claws and surprise opponents

[SET]
name: Refrigerate
move 1: Extreme Speed
move 2: Close Combat
move 3: King's Shield / Fake Out
move 4: Boomburst / Magma Storm / King's Shield
item: Icicle Plate
ability: Refrigerate
nature: Jolly / Naive
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

. Extreme Speed if the strongest priority move which is boosted by Refrigerate
. Close Combat is a STAB coverage move which KOs Steel switchins bar Aegislash, also can 2HKO Fur Coat Chansey
. King's Shield allows Mega Mewtwo X to block other Fake Outs from -ate users and then proceed to outspeed and KO with its own Extreme Speed, it does however lose some utility when used after Close Combat stat drops, Fake Out gives Mega Mewtwo X the opportunity to perform the Fake Out + Extreme Speed combo on frail targets which usually nabs the kill (also removes potential Focus Sashes)
. Boomburst hits walls such as Fur Coat Giratina, Fur Coat Mega Audino, and non-Soundproof Mega Slowbro that can take Mega Mewtwo X's physical moves, can be replaced with King's Shield if Fake Out was chosen as the first move or Magma Storm to defeat Shedinja and Aegislash. Boomburst and Magma Storm should preferably be used along with King's Shield as the third moveslot to allow Mega Mewtwo X to function as a mixed wallbreaker

Set Details
========

. Icicle Plate further boosts Mega Mewtwo X's Refrigerate-boosted moves without having any drawbacks, can be replaced with Life Orb for more power and also to boost Close Combat's power but at the expense of recoil damage
. Refrigerate enables Mega Mewtwo X to boost the power of its Normal-type priority moves and give them an Ice typing, which results in Mega Mewtwo X becoming an excellent revenge killer, wallbreaker (especially if carrying Boomburst), and anti-lead thanks to its superb Speed
. 252 Spe with a positive nature is selected to guarantee outspeeding Mega Rayquaza and Speed tying with Mega Gengar, 252 Atk for maximum damage output. Jolly nature if not carrying Boomburst and Naive nature with 4 SpA Evs if Boomburst is selected as one of the moves

Usage Tips
========

. Mega Mewtwo X is a great counter-lead for the common -ates such as Mega Rayquaza and Mega Diancie, a Fake Out from Mega Mewtwo X will outspeed their Fake Out and King's Shield will block their Fake Out. Extreme Speed will outspeed and OHKO Mega Rayquaza afterwards (even at -2) and can KO Mega Diancie after a small amount of prior damage
. Mega Mewtwo X is also a great revenge killer and can often KO foes with the Fake Out + Extreme Speed combo. Even without Fake Out, it can still revenge kill a good portion of the meta with Extreme Speed alone since many of the offensive threats in BH are either weak to Ice-type attacks or are just frail such as Mega Mewtwo Y, Mega Aerodactyl, Mega Garchomp, Mega Latios, and Mega Sceptile
. Mega Mewtwo X is one of the few common -ate users which Fur Coat Chansey cannot switch into as Close Combat does 2HKO it.
. Use Boomburst or Magma Storm to surprise and KO physical walls that would normally be able to completely wall Mega Mewtwo X, such as Fur Coat Giratina and Aegislash, respectively.

Team Options
========

. Mega Mewtwo X appreciates having Steel-type walls that can take on -ate users, such as Registeel and Aegislash. Aegislash in particular has great synergy with Mega Mewtwo X as it can serve as both an -ate switchin and also an Imposter counter (must have Flash Fire if running Magma Storm though)
. Mega Mewtwo X requires Imposter-proofing support which can be chosen depending on the moveset being used. Soundproof Mega Slowbro and Flash Fire Aegislash are examples of Imposter counters
. Mega Mewtwo X works well with hazard support from the likes of Giratina and Groudon as the chip damage allows it to finish off and even potentially clean up late game with Extreme Speed
. Pivot support has great synergy with Mega Mewtwo X as slow pivots such as Registeel and Mega Audino allow it to be brought in safely

[SET]
name: Mold Breaker
move 1: Pursuit
move 2: Close Combat
move 3: U-turn / V-create
move 4: Stealth Rock / Spore
item: Safety Goggles / Rocky Helmet
ability: Mold Breaker
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

. Pursuit traps and kills Shedinja, it also allows Mega Mewtwo X to trap and potentially KO weakened foes that try to switch out such as Giratina and Mega Slowbro
. Close Combat allows Mega Mewtwo X to ignore Fur Coat and OHKO Fur Coat Chansey, as well as other Fur Coat users such as Registeel
. U-turn provides Mega Mewtwo X with a way to avoid getting trapped by Mean Look and Infestation by users such as Soundproof Mega Slowbro as well as providing its team with momentum, V-create allows Mega Mewtwo X to defeat Flash Fire users such as Aegislash
. Thanks to Mold Breaker, Mega Mewtwo X can ignore Magic Bounce users and get Stealth Rock up with ease. Alternatively, Spore also ignores Magic Bounce and can be used along with Safety Goggles (to Imposter-proof Mega Mewtwo X) to put unsuspecting foes to sleep.

Set Details
========

. Safety Goggles provides Mega Mewtwo X with Spore immunity which is useful for Imposter-proofing and should always be used if Mega Mewtwo X is running Spore, it also prevents the team with a Spore switchin and also enables Mega Mewtwo X to stay in against Prankster Spore users. Rocky Helmet is an alternative that provides Mega Mewtwo X with a way to defeat Shedinja if it switches into Endeavor
. Mold Breaker allows Mega Mewtwo X to ignore abilities such as Sturdy, Fur Coat, Flash Fire, and Magic Bounce and use the appropriate moves on them freely
. Maximum Speed EVs along with a Jolly nature allow Mega Mewtwo X to outspeed everything below base 130 Speed, also allows Mega Mewtwo X to speed tie with Mega Gengar. Maximum Attack investment allows Mega Mewtwo X to do maximum damage

Usage Tips
========

. Mega Mewtwo X can be used as a lead if the opponent does not lead with an -ate user, otherwise it should be brought in on a pivot to counter the threats that it's supposed to defeat
. Try to bring Mega Mewtwo X in when you predict the opponent to switch into Shedinja, otherwise it's not the best idea to switch Mega Mewtwo X into Shedinja afterwards
. Mega Mewtwo X can also OHKO Fur Coat Chansey, you can use this information to make aggressive plays if the opponent has a Fur Coat Chansey on their team
. If Mega Mewtwo X is brought in safely with nothing to do, get your Stealth Rocks up. Another scenario where getting rocks up is optimal is when Mega Mewtwo X is matched up against something it beats, such as Fur Coat Chansey. In this case, since the switch is obvious, getting rocks up is more beneficial than going for Close Combat (unless if the team has no Close Combat switchin).
. Mega Mewtwo X can also be used to Pursuit trap other threats after they are weakened such as Giratina and Mega Latios

Team Options
========

. Mega Mewtwo X pairs well with offensive threats that are walled by Shedinja and/or Fur Coat Chansey, such as non-Specs Aerilate Mega Rayquaza. Mega Mewtwo X also allows for the other team members to replace moves that would normally deal with these threats for better alternatives
. Mega Mewtwo X is easily revenge killed by -ate users (especially Pixilate and Aerilate), and requires support from Steel-type walls such as Registeel and Aegislash.
. Mega Mewtwo X can be Imposter-proofed with Aegislash (if not carrying V-create), Giratina, and Mega Slowbro

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

. Mixed sets are also viable on Mega Mewtwo X as it could run a mixed contrary set with V-create, Superpower, and Draco Meteor. This set is generally outclassed by Mega Rayquaza but it does have the niche of having higher Speed which enables it to start setting up on more foes
. A mixed No Guard set with Dynamic Punch, Inferno, and Zap Cannon is also viable, but this is generally inferior to Mega Mewtwo Y's No Guard set as Mega Mewtwo Y can outspeed Mega Gengar in addition to being able to hit harder with the special moves.
. A mixed Sniper set with Storm Throw and Frost Breath can enable Mega Mewtwo X to function as a mixed wallbreaker, Technician is also another alternative if a physical wallbreaker is desired.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Aerilate and Pixilate Users**: Mega Rayquaza and Mega Diancie can threaten Mold Breaker Mega Mewtwo X with their super effective -ate boosted priority moves and force it out, the Refrigerate set can however outspeed and potentially defeat them.

**Gale Wings Users**: Mega Rayquaza can easily revenge kill Mold breaker Mega Mewtwo X with Dragon Ascent or Oblivion Wing, but it is OHKOed by an Extreme Speed from the Refrigerate set.

**Faster Threats**: Such as Mega Mewtwo Y and Mega Aerodactyl can threaten to outspeed and KO Mold Breaker Mega Mewtwo X with their strong attacks (such as Moonblast and Brave Bird, respectively) but are usually picked off by the strong priority moves of the Refrigerate set.

**Physical Walls**: Such as Soundproof Mega Slowbro and Giratina can wall Mega Mewtwo X, but they can be defeated with appropriate coverage moves or mixed sets.

morogrim, just a question. I've been using Low Kick over Close Combat, bcz it KO Regigigas, Registeel and Ferrothorn which are heavy targets without dropping defenses stats. It can beat Ttar as well, hits groudon quite hard and does a good job against FC chansey as well. Why Close Combat? Does it make anything special? (idk, maybe yes, but i am not seeing xD )

Not the place to ask this question, but Low Kick does not do well against Chansey at all since it is 60 BP and fails to even 3HKO.

Never mind, I'm just doing this now.

Overview
  • It might be good to mention some of those "uncommon" sets by name
Moves
  • Change the order so it matches up
  • I don't think MMX's Extreme Speed "KO"s Mega Diancie so I'd pick a different verb there.
  • It might be worth noting that Close Combat's Defense drops decrease the utility of King's Shield
  • Provide examples of some physical walls that take lots of damage from Boomburst (Fur Coat Giratina, though you mention that later, so maybe think of another if there is one)
Set Details
  • Get rid of "-ate killer," that doesn't really mean anything
Usage Tips
  • Say some specific threats that are weak to Ice
Team Options
  • "Hazard support" isn't really a team option. Say some Pokemon that might set up hazards.
Moves
  • What kind of "traps" would U-turn be escaping? Maybe add some specific trappers (Infestation users?) here that MMX would want to avoid, since I'm guessing that's what you mean.
  • I would switch the order of Rocky Helmet and Safety Goggles. It looks weird to have Safety Goggles and Spore in different positions.
Set Details
  • Change the order of items to match what I just said.
Usage Tips
  • Maybe add an example of a certain situation in which it might be safe to use Stealth Rock? This one is up to you. It might turn out kind of weird.
Checks and Counters
  • This should be Pixilate and Aerilate users since you don't seem especially concerned about Kyurem-B or opposing MMX.
  • When you talk about only Mold Breaker MMX, say "Mold Breaker Mega Mewtwo X." It's confusing when you say that something beats Mega Mewtwo X and then say that it loses to the Refrigerate set. This applies for multiple bullet points.
  • Say the attacks the fast things would use (Moonblast for MMY, Brave Bird for Mega Aero, right?)
Did this one kind of quickly so I might have missed something but it looks solid
