- Marshadow is an offensive powerhouse thanks to the unresisted combination of Ghost and Fighting STAB moves, great Attack and Speed, and amazing movepool, making it a capable revenge killer, cleaner, and wallbreaker.
- Spectral Thief punishes set up sweepers such as Arceus-Ground and Zygarde and it also goes through Substitute, punishing foes that try to benefit from Cyclizar's Shed Tail such as Zacian-C and Arceus-Ground, If Marshadow runs Spectral Thief, it's likely sacrificing either Poltergeist or a coverage move, which could weaken its ability to break through walls or deal with specific threats using its moves.
- Poltergeist is Marshadow's Strongest Ghost-type STAB move as it can 2HKO Necrozma-DM and Lunala but has notable flaws in its accuracy and vulnerability to foes with consumable items such as Meteor Beam Eternatus, though Marshadow can use Poltergeist and Spectral Thief together, allowing it to steal boosts and threaten with greater damage due to Poltergeist high damage and to hit foes without an item or any risk of missing.
- Low Kick is preferred over Close Combat because it has no drawbacks and thanks to the heavy nature of the Ubers it often has 120 Base Power, hitting common foes such as Primal Groudon, Primal Kyogre, Arceus and Yveltal hard.
- Pokemon that typically counter Marshadow, such as Ho-Oh and Zygarde, must remain highly cautious of Marshadow's diverse coverage moves; Ice Punch can OHKO Mega Salamence, Rayquaza, and threatens Zygarde with big damage.
- Alternatively, Rock Tomb with the help of Technician allows it to OHKO Ho-Oh and heavily damages Yveltal; the Speed drop also helps to stop foes to setup with Dragon Dance such as Necrozma-DM, Mega Salamence, and Arceus-Ground.
- Shadow Sneak makes Marshadow a great revenge killer, hitting really hard thanks to Technician, letting Marshadow finish off faster foes like Zacian-C and Eternatus, and can OHKO threats such as Deoxys-A, Flutter Mane, andMega Mewtwo-Y after Stealth Rocks.
- Life Orb provides the extra damage that Marshadow desperately needs as it OHKO Mega Salamence and potentially OHKO Ho-Oh, Spell Tag is still a valid option for longevity though it weakens Marshadow's offenses.
- Tera Ghost in conjunction with Poltergeist maximizes Marshadow's damage output, allowing it to OHKO foes like Calyrex-I, offensive Necrozma-DM and potentially OHKO Dialga-O and Primal Kyogre, and 2HKO offensive Primal Groudon. Turning into a pure Ghost-Type also allows Marshadow to tanks hits from the likes of unboosted Ultra Necrozma and Arceus-Fairy and retaliate with big damage.
- Marshadow excels the most late-game, especially when the its checks are weakened and within KO range. Otherwise, Marshadow faces difficulties in avoiding being revenge killed by faster foes such as Zacian-C or foes that can survive its attacks such as Arceus-Fairy.
- Marshadow appreciates entry hazards because they can wear down checks like Primal Groudon, Zygarde, and Eternatus. Therefore, Spikes and Stealth Rocks support from Deoxys-S is important so that it can get KOes against Arceus and Mega Mewtwo Y. Toxic Spikes from Eternatus is also appreciated to hurt defensive foes longevity such as Primal Groudon and Arceus-Water thought it can get absorbed by opposing Eternatus.
- Due Marshadow's frailty it struggles to find a safe switch-in unless it's from Arceus's Extreme Speed, so teammates with access to U-turn, such as Yveltal, can help safely bring it in.
- Necrozma-DM appreciates Marshadow's ability to beat Ho-Oh, Zygarde and Yveltal. In return, it can help Marshdow by beating Fairy-Type foes such as Zacian-C and Arceus-Fairy while also setting up Stealth Rock.
- Marshadow benefits from having special wallbreakers as teammates such as Primal Kyogre and Life Orb Yveltal that can apply pressure to defensive foes such as Zygarde, defensive Primal Groudon, and Arceus-Water, as they can exert pressure on these defensive threats with their powerful special attacks.
